What a weird week with the 4th on a Wednesday, no?  Well, not too weird for me because I’m off all summer! But, it was weird for the people I spent it with because they had to be ready for work the next day!

Favorite #1)

Air Conditioning and boats with AC!

O.k.,  we were not really looking forward to the 4th because we had an extreme heat advisory and all of the plans are outside!  We wanted to show our German cousin Pia a great celebration, too.  But, we were invited to go out on a boat with AC!  And the angels sang!  It didn’t feel bad when the boat was moving or when you were in the shade or in the water.  I did have to go in to the AC a few times and maybe it was a mental thing to know it was available, you know?

Holiday Foods!

We had some red, white, and blue lunch picnic foods on the boat and I attempted this layered drink below.  The secret is highest sugar content on bottom so this was cranberry juice, sprite, and then Gatorade G2 blue.  I don’t think the sprite worked.  I have done it before with Sobe juice I think as the white layer.  Still it was pretty cool!

We boated until about 4:30 then went to my SIL’s house for dinner.  I brought red, white, and blue fruit pizza.  I gave the recipe here and you can do mandarin oranges and strawberries or really any fruit.  It’s a crowd pleaser.  We left by 7:30 but Pia was going to go out to the fireworks with teenagers.

Favorite #3)

Natural hair and makeup!

You know what my routine is right now?  It’s basically nothing.  I take a shower and keep my hair wet to stay cool and put no makeup on.  I’m saving money by not wasting makeup that will melt off, you know?  You have to look for the upside to the heat, right?

Favorite #4)

Hair product

I love my hair sylist, but I’m taking a little summer break from highlighting my hair.  I found this product and have sprayed it mainly at my roots and I really like it.  It smells nice, too.

New to me Self – Tanner

My friend H told me this was her favorite tanner and I thought I had already found mine.  This is cheaper at 6.99 and it’s my new favorite.  Check out my self tanning post from quite awhile ago here.  I really don’t feel the need to sit in the sun anymore and this gives me just the right amount of color.  I love this stuff.

  1. Thanks for the shout out sweet friend, it’s been a pleasure getting to know you! If you EVER come to FL you better let me know, I’m crashing your vacation!
I love self tanner, no other way to go in my book!
We were going to make a layered dink for the 4th but our friends brought over a blue drink (with so much alcohol) so we just used red and white striped straws – so cute! Boy do I love that fruit pizza too – it is just so good!
Hope you have a marvelous weekend!!

    1. You are so welcome but thank you for being so supportive! Blue drink with cute straws sounds like my kind of drink! I love recipes like the fruit pizza. Same to you if you come to KY – but that’s less likely! Haha!
      Have a glorious weekend!

  2. A boat with AC sounds like the perfect way to spend the 4th! We huddled inside all day, only venturing out briefly to grill. Then watched our crazy neighbors set off legitimately huge fireworks from our nice cool living room 🙂

    1. Haha! We would’ve done that if the boat didn’t come up! What genre of books are your fave? Love your blog title!

      1. Thanks! I mostly read current fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, with a few nonfiction scattered in every once in a while.

      2. I like fiction and historical fiction the most and read lighter books in the summer! The WW 2 books I read this past winter necessitated a break!

  3. Hey who cares about hair and makeup when you are LIVING THE DREAM on an AC boat in the sun on 4th July?! Seriously you do right, mine is sliding everywhere too. Ref John Frieda – even easier – have you tried their daily wash blonding shampoo? That really works! It just looks like you’ve been in the sun (and not in ‘sun in’ way either haha). Have a great week-end and thanks for the mention! Joanne x

  4. Thanks for the shoutout! How sweet! I am so glad your 4th ended up not being as hot. I am with you on the no makeup part…maybe mascara if I really want to get fancy. Ha! But really, why put it on when it just melts off. Happy happy Friday Mama!

    1. You’re welcome and thanks for visiting me! I tried to comment on your blog and it made me give a password and then it lost my comment so – I loved the hair you did on your daughter and your beautiful sunset picture. Have a great weekend!

  5. Aww Amy I appreciate the shout-out!! I love the “virtual” community I am making here. I will check out your other friends’ blogs too!

Your drink looks delicious- I had always wondered about to make that cool ombre effect! I have been doing minimal makeup and hair products for the past month and it feels great to go au natural!! Have a lovely weekend 🙂
