I promised you an updated post about my purchases, so here we go. These are the summer clothing purchases I made for the last three months, believe it or not. My habit is to usually get exited about spring and summer clothes in February and stop buying winter clothes. I am just done with them at that point. I also enjoy spring and summer clothes so much more. I do love fall clothes, but my winter clothes are just about warmth and comfort, I guess.

I recorded my January purchases here. my February purchases here, and March here. I have shopped more than I originally planned this year, but I also think I have become a better shopper and I think I have done really well this year. There are several things that I returned and a couple of things I had to sell at my consignment shop, but that’s ok. I still did really well. In my purchases from January – March, I returned the black and white sweater and black pants from Target – they just weren’t perfect. I sold the Clarks sandals because they killed the sides of my feet, and I sold the white J.Crew bathing suit.

I wasn’t planning to shop at Old Navy, but here we are…

I bought this top in all three colors…

black:

blue:

and pink and orange:

I would say they run true to size or a little big depending on your chest/girls situation.

I have worn the pink and orange and the blue the most so far. I think I will wear the black and white in late summer and early fall. You can’t go wrong with black and white for work.

I also showed some restraint by only buying the pink and orange colorway of the dress version. I linked all of these items in Fashion Files last week. If you are interested, remember that you get a better deal online and I recommend ordering at least two different sizes and returning in person at your local store.

I would also say the dress runs a bit big or true to size.

I purchased three Walmart dresses. They run one to two sizes big.

This one:

This one:

And, my favorite is this one:

Again, I recommend ordering online in a couple of different sizes and returning in person at your local Walmart. Returns have gotten easier at Walmart I have noticed. You open your Walmart app or Walmart in your browser and they use your barcode to return. It has been easy peasy for me.

I think back in early April I placed my Aerie order for these cut offs,

these hot pink shorts,

and I couldn’t resist this tee:

I went in to World Market and brought this muu muu home:

and in to Hobby Lobby and brought these home:

And, I ordered these off of Target.com.

All of my Amazon Essentials simple flip flops:

And, finally a Pioneer Woman summer weight robe. It runs really small and I wish I had gone up another size, but it is really nice for the price.

I love that when I am ready to buy more summer clothes they will be on sale – if I buy anything. I don’t feel that I really need anything and truly there aren’t the days in the week to wear everything I have and love. I am working on this contentment thing!

Do you have any favorite purchases of mine? What have you been buying?

Amy

  1. This is the summer of the dress – I swear, I cannot get enough of them. I still really like those tops from Old Navy, I have yet to buy one myself but I am still thinking about it.
    You made some great purchases!

    1. Right? I think I am good now, but if I see one that speaks to me – you know I will have to get it. You will be/would be shocked at the quality and feel of the fabric. The tops are in the store if you want to try one on. Thank you!

  2. I love all of your purchases! I love the pink and orange ON top, the ON dress and the first Walmart dress the most, I think. I’ve not really bought anything- well, I have, but I’ve returned it all. I still have some Walmart dresses to take back this week. I plan on doing that on Thursday and looking for some shorts/tee shirts while I’m there. I need some casual clothes right now, so that’s why I’m thinking biker shorts/tees. Honestly, though, it is too hot here to wear anything but a dress or a swimsuit. I’ve lived in dresses once again the past few weeks.

    1. Thank you! Thank you! You are very good about not overbuying and returning what you don’t love. I really love biker shorts. There is no chafing and I wore some yesterday with a black tank and threw a button up over it.
The weather is still so nice and mild here.

    2. Thank you so much for posting a pic of the black and cream old navy top! I went and bought it at my local old navy store. I went back and got the blue and pink ones. The salesman said I just put these tops out and they are flying out of here! Told him I saw it on your blog. Love your blog, so real and down to earth and such great variety! Dee

      1. You are welcome! Oh, good! The only problem is that I hope I don’t show up places and see others wearing it! Ha! You name dropped my blog?!!!??? Call me, Old Navy! Ha!

  3. That robe is so fun! Perfect for summer. I don’t have a summer robe…just my long target one that I love. I often buy things in multiple colors if I find something I like…especially if it’s a good price point.

    1. I thought it was so cute! You know how you get hot getting ready in a robe in the summer? I really wanted a lightweight one. I used to have one many moons ago. I still love my Target one and use it if I am cold of course! I agree – I don’t think it’s always bad to buy multiples.

  4. Last night I went to dinner with my girlfriends and after parting ways the Loft was calling my name. I live in Florida and it is HOT. They had so much cute new stuff in lots of colored jeans and printed tops thank goodness it was close to store closing. I bought new shorts four new tops two same style different color red and blue – earrings (which hang really strange the loops poke out from the ear to the side-they are going back) loose knit red and white striped sweater with bracelet to match and jean shorts. Everything was half price so about $160 dollars but now I will be cute all summer and not have to try and figure out what to wear on the weekends. I love your blog you feel like a friend I am just catching up with. I also love that your just an average person not a size two. I followed another blogger who started out as a size 14 and ended up as a size 0 – I mean good for her and her health but it decreased my interest in reading her post all the time and honestly as you get older I just don’t think you can be that small and look great your face loses it padding !

    1. Isn’t Loft great? I find really quality pieces there.
I will never be a size zero and I don’t think I would want to. You are sweet to say that, though. I do try to be an open book as much as I can be. I just don’t even know that that is healthy. Having the stuff to wear helps you say yes and feel more confident in your own skin!

  5. Hi Amy, I really enjoy your blog. You focus on two of my favorite subjects: Food and Fashion. 😉 You also make your city look like a great vacation destination with all the cool restaurants and river nearby. I live in Oregon and would love to read a blog about “must do” and “must see” things in Louisville. Just a suggestion, but I would love it. Also, what are the best months to visit? We are thinking of booking something for early October. Take care and enjoy your summer break.

    1. Well, aren’t you sweet! I have a post planned on my city! October is gorgeous here and if you like horse racing, you should include a trip to Keeneland and if you like bourbon you should also visit Bardstown. You do need to rent a car. Our public transportation leaves a lot to be desired.

  6. I love the woven tops from Old Navy! I bought a pair of loose-fit, wide leg jeans at ON today, on sale and using some rewards money too, for $20. I have done A LOT of shopping in the last week or so, all at mall stores, with my youngest son. He starts his first job in August (software engineer), and I’m helping him build a business casual wardrobe. I had a great offer for 30% off at Banana Republic, not the factory store though it has great chinos that I buy for both sons. At BR, I bought a trench coat, a linen shirt, and a pair of gorgeous leather shoes (the shoes were $21! From last season). I also bought him two pairs of shorts from the J Crew outlet. He is lean and looks great in everything. I bought two linen shirts for myself at Banana Republic, three ribbed higher neck tanks to wear under an open shirt for work at Target, $8/each. I also bought another denim shirt (I have at least 7 denim shirts, different brands and washes!), as well as an overall dress from the Levi store! I got such positive comments about my overalls, I’m branching out, lol! Have a great week!

    1. Thank you! Sounds like you have and have enjoyed it, too – while also getting some good deals. I could go for the overalls skirt version for me! I used to have some!

  7. OK, that first floral dress from Walmart is a FAVE! I also love the Old Navy shirts, but not sure they would work for me. I’m a little blessed upstairs. LOL! I’m catching up on all of your blog posts and just wanted to say I am so relieved that your mom is ok. I know that was a scary thing to go through!

    1. Thank you! I am blessed there, too. They probably are not my most flattering style, but I don’t care! Thank you so much – she is strong and we are very grateful.

  8. As you know I am a sucker for flip flops (since I can only wear them for 3-4 months per year) so I love your stack of flip flops in different colors! And I agree with you, that orangey pink dress from Walmart is amazing!
Well, visited Ross and bought Juicy Couture sneakers (10 dollar! It’s a high end brand in Europe!), and the yearly summer pyjamas. And sun glasses of course!
