I am linking up with Kellyann and Jill for Fashion Files today.

But first, thank you so much for all of your sweet birthday wishes yesterday! I had a great day that included celebrating Day of the Dead. I had several students bring in loaves of bread of the dead for extra credit and for us to eat.

The recipe I give them has anise seed or extract in it and then and orange glaze on top.

I have slacked a bit with outfits and I don’t love all of the ones I have worn lately. I am rotating through my fall stuff to see if I still like it. And, they have turned on the heat and my room is an oven. I am not kidding. It is probably 80 degrees in my room. My windows are open and I have a little fan I can put on me.

I wore this Umgee dress with J.Jill grey capri leggings and my Shu Shop sneakers one day. I was super comfortable and the dress is too short for school without the leggings. It’s just a meh outfit for me like this. I like it better with booties. I love this dress and I love the Umgee brand.

Ok, now this was Halloween and I was being kinda silly. I wore my shirt that says Bruja/Witch in Spanish with my work partner in crime. I added a vest and a hat that I thought looked witchy. I wore my new Chico’s croppsed faux leather pants– not that cropped on me. I had to wear comfortable-ish schools for school, so they are not the best choice of footwear for the pants.

I brought other black pants in case these got too hot, but I made it the whole day. They are warm but not too hot. There is a warm lining inside.

On my birthday yesterday, I wore this Target dress, cardigan for a bit until I got too hot, and old booties.

To go out to eat last night, I wore my other Chico’s pants – yup I did get them in both colors.

And, I added a vest:

These pants are like butter. I tried them on in the store and couldn’t believe how comfortable they are. I have been wearing a few Chico’s things since my early 30s. Their basics cannot be beat. I have owned a pair of their black pants for years. Many women my age say things like, “I’m not old enough for Chico’s yet!” I say that you are missing out. Go in a store if you have one. Try on some pants for starters. The quality cannot be beat. I am not into some of their toppers, jackets, jewelry either, but there is a lot of good to be found there.

I wish the pants were a little shorter on me, but it’s ok. I am in need of shoe suggestions. I think some of the ankle and foot needs to show with these. Let me know if you have ideas.

  1. I love those pants! Both colors are great and you look so good in them! I loved your Halloween outfit…look at you suffering in your hot room to look cute. Ha! I loved the shoes you wore with them when you went out last night- I’m the last one to offer advice for shoes in the fall/winter, because I live in flats, wedges or the ONE pair of booties I have that are a camel color. I always think I want some boots…but then I never know what to buy. I love the bulky ones that are back in style, though. They have to be comfortable, whatever they are. I love Chico’s pants and have been wearing them for years! I agree wholeheartedly about it being a great place for the basics and a good pair of pants that will last for years to come.

    1. Thank you! Thank you! I love shoes so much so I have a problem and could have way more than I currently own. Aren’t Chico’s pants great? I like their sizing system, too!

  2. Love your Halloween outfit! If those pants are supposed to be crops, then I’d find a good tailor and take them up just a bit. Maybe wear cute wedge shoes w/ them, on the high side for the wedge, if those are comfortable for you.

    1. Thank you! I thought about that. I might want to keep this length, though. I was talking to my friend about it and she thought the length was maybe more versatile like this. I am going to hunt for wedges or heels today. The black pumps I wore with them are actually pretty comfortable – Evan Piccone from consignment years ago!

    1. Yes! I have my new flats that are kinda a dalmation print. I think the length of the pant will work with heels, booties, sneakers – I just need to take the time to experiment.

  3. Cutie! I love all of your outfits!
For shoes I think you really hit it off on your birthday, but maybe those shoes aren’t comfortable enough for school? Right now I’m really into white chunky sneakers with absolutely everything! And could I be brave and suggest chuck taylors? Works with everything! You can put an extra sole in them when you’re standing up all day.

    1. Thank you! Exactly! I probably won’t wear these pants to school again, but I do want to try them with sneakers! I can’t see myself in Chucks, though! I am shopping for some cool looking wedges or heels today!

    1. Thank you! It is super comfy for a school outfit! Awww, that is sweet. It’s hard because we have to go slow enough for the lower ability kids and try not to bore the higher ability kids.
I love your skirt challenge! You do so well with wearing everything in your closet!

    1. That happens to me a lot! I cannot wait to see the pants on you and how you style them. Did you get black or brown? I think you will be shocked by how buttery they feel. Lisa agreed, too! I don’t think they will make you too hot because I lasted in them for 9 hours!

  5. The pants look great on you! I love the brown color the most! I also buy cropped regular length jeans or pants to get a regular length on my short body. I forget how tall I am because if it’s a physical with BMI, I say I’m taller than I am! Around 5’3” I think. I have to go back to Chicos. I totally agree with you on their basics. I used to like J Jill, but there are no stores around here anymore, and I need to try on things. I liked their linen shirts and tunics a lot. It is cold in my new classroom! And then 87 when I go outside to walk my students to lunch! Have a great weekend! Almost there!!

    1. Thank you! I love the brown, too. I probably should have only gotten brown, but I tried on the black first and thought they would work with so much. I do that, too! I am technically barely 5’4 I think. But, I think everyone has a different sized torso and hip to foot length so things can fit differently. I have not found any staples at J.Jill the last few times I went in. I used to have some amazing black flare pants from them. They have changed I think. I wish my classroom was a little colder, but oh well. I am layering for now. This is why I really like 3/4 length sleeves. They work in all 4 seasons sometimes and help me stay cooler.
