It’s hard to believe that we have been married for 21 years today!

I feel like every year I talk about our wedding and put this photo – one of my favorites – on the blog:

This year I thought I would dig out the honeymoon photos! This required taking photos of photos so the quality won’t be that great. Our honeymoon was in the era of “take your film to Walgreen’s and wait 7-10 days for it to be developed into prints”.

We went to Aruba! I think we had to be at the airport at 3:00 a.m. after our wedding reception!

Dinner on the beach:

I remember really liking all of my honeymoon wardrobe. Tom still owns most of his clothes he wore! I don’t own a stitch anymore!

Dinner at a romantic outdoor place that had the trees all covered in lights:

The food in Aruba was really good. We did not do all inclusive because we wanted to be free to go wherever.

On this day we sea kayaked and snorkeled. We snorkeled at least three times during the week. We are not big on just laying on the beach!

We had a disposable underwater camera.

We went on a “pirate ship” and snorkeled around a shipwreck.

Tom did a flip off the boat; he was invited to do so, he didn’t just do it!

We rented a “Jeep” one day and saw all of the 60 square mile island. I remember we thought this purple rental was funny.

We saw lots of cool things while exploring. It is very windy in Aruba; there are even trees bent from the wind.

Tom used to get so tan.

Is that Fabio? Michael Bolton? Matthew McConnaughey? It’s my new husband!

This was a famous bar so we had to check it out.

I remember being excited to return home and just be married! And, a year and a half later we would find out we were having twins!

We have a dinner reservation tonight! Hopefully Tom will gaze into my eyes and profess how much more he loves me today than he did 21 years ago.

How long have you been married? Where did you go on your honeymoon? I love hearing others’ stories!

Amy

  1. Thanks for sharing these, what a great trip! My husband still owns most of his old clothes and they fit still fit him, which I hate – ha! The man throws away NOTHING. I have to sneak things out and toss them telling him it is well past their expiration date!
I hope you have a wonderful dinner tonight and I hope Tom stares into your eyes professing his love too – then I can live vicariously through you because that does not happen here – hahahahaha!!!

    1. Yes! Men are so different with their clothes and I wouldn’t dare touch anything of Tom’s. It’s been funny to see him hand down things to J and M and see them wearing them.
That will not happen! Tom is not a gusher but he does show love in acts of service!

  2. Happy Anniversary! 🥂 Love all the honeymoon pictures! Looks like a fun time. 😊 I’ve been married for 28 years so I definitely remember taking film to get developed!

  3. Happy anniversary!! We just celebrated our 20th in May and we went on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon; we stopped in the Bahamas, the Virgin islands, St. Maarten, and maybe one or two other places… I’d have to consult our itinerary (which I still have!). We went kayaking and snorkeling as we are not sit on the beach and relax type of people either. Our photos are all from actual film cameras too; in fact many of our honeymoon photos were taken using any of the leftover cameras from our wedding (we had those disposable ones on every table during the reception).

    1. I would love to do that! In fact, Tom is looking into getting a captain’s license. That sounds amazing! We had those at every table, too. I think it was a big trend then! Thank you!

  4. Happy Anniversary! Loved seeing your darling pics. I have been married for 22 years this November and barely remember much about our Honeymoon, which was almost 3 weeks in Hawaii. Maybe because we laid by the pool, ate and drank and just relaxed. Not much activity so all the days blended together! Oh life before kids!

  5. Congrats Amy and Tom! We have been married 27 years in May. We went to Disneyworld on our honeymoon. We got married at 23 and 25 and had hardly any money. We could only afford to rent a car for two days to go to Cape Canaveral. It was a big expense to fly from Edmonton to Orlando. We also had the disposable cameras on the tables at our reception. Enjoy your special Anniversary dinner out, Holly

  6. Thanks for sharing, if felt like I was sitting on your sofa flipping through your photo album! 😀
Husband and I met 23 years ago (crazy!) and have been married for 16 years. We didn’t go on a honeymoon, it’s not a big thing over here.

  7. Happy anniversary! We went to Aruba for the first time last year and loved it! We did an all-inclusive with a snorkeling trip. I am definitely a sit on the beach kind of girl, especially when it is as beautiful as Aruba’s beaches. We’re hoping to go back with our kids next summer and I think we’ll do a little more exploring then. We’ve been married 15 years and went to the Canary Islands (Fuertaventura) and Barcelona on our honeymoon. Jeff and I were both teachers at the time so we didn’t have any limits on our timeline.

    1. Thank you! Oh yes, I remember re-living it through your photos. I am more of a sit on the beach girl now than I was then! What a dream honeymoon! Why didn’t I do that! Honeymoons go in trends like everything, I think.
How amazing to both be teachers and not have limits. I guess he is not anymore?

      1. 10 years ago Jeff became an athletic director and started working summers. Last year he was the AD and assistant principal 😳. This year he’s only the assistant principal. Luckily he still has a good bit of summer freedom.
