It’s Monday and time to link up with Sarah and Holly to share the weekend…

After our rain on Monday and Tuesday we have had some gorgeous weather and it looks like it will continue – 50s in the morning and 70s and sunny during the day. I don’t remember a fall this beautiful and a fall where we get a true fall and not go straight from hot to cold. Is this our reward for such a rainy and hot summer?

My kids agreed to happy hour with me on Thursday! It was just the three of us and we went to an Italian place.

I went home and did dinner with Tom while they hung out for longer.

Friday morning I did a grocery pick up bright and early. I am having luck doing two grocery pick ups a week. I have not been inside the store for a bit now.

Then, I attempted the nature preserve by myself for the first time with EO. Eddie Otis is pretty hard to walk on the leash (we are working on it) but off leash he is an angel.

Cutie boy!

He did so well and it was so good for both of us!

I came home and made my breakfast and he was worn out so he was super chill the rest of the day. Mason and I had some lovely patio reading time together for a couple of hours.

EO seemed to love us both being on the patio.

I finished this! I loved it! You can tell they have left it open for the next book because they didn’t tie up an important loose end.

We ordered dinner Friday and just stayed home.

Saturday Tom and I went on a fairly country Kentucky drive to a distillery opening. I grew up on a lake in a close knit neighborhood of kids my age and one of the kids has opened his own distillery. He has been master distiller of Maker’s Mark, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam and some big names in the bourbon industry.

We got to visit with one of his sisters:

And his mom and dad. This is his mom with her famous punch in her car!

We had a really nice time and drove home through Bardstown and visited a bourbon themed hotel that Tom’s construction company did.

When we got home I started a pot of soup for a dinner of soup and grilled cheese and then read on the patio.

Sunday was Punkin’ Chunkin’ at Captain’s Quarters which is a breast cancer fundraiser. They catapult pumpkins into the river to try to hit targets.

Boats were decorated for Halloween this year!

And new this year, they tried to hit some targets from dropping pumpkins from a helicopter…

It was so nice to be outside! We came home and I read outside, talked to my sisters on the phone (as a 3 way call), and heated up soup and made the Hawaiian ham and swiss sliders for dinner.

Oh…Diane Keaton…you were the best!

I want to go watch all her movies. You know what movie I really like? Baby Boom.

Someone asked to see my mom’s miniatures/shadow boxes.

Here are a couple of Halloween themed shadowboxes:

And, here are some of the Christmas ones:

Tell me something about your weekend!

Amy

  1. That sounds like such a lovely weekend! We didn’t really do much of anything; I did put away all the outdoor furniture on Saturday in preparation for the big storm that started on Sunday and is supposed to run through until sometime tomorrow. I’m pretty sure there will be zero leaves left of the trees after that! We’re just hoping we don’t lose power as predicted…

  2. Wow, your mom’s shadow boxes are so neat! What a creative lady she was! I Have zero artistic ability so I am in awe of others who are inspired and create things like this.

Our weekend was very low key which was good. I finished two blog posts, got ahead of my IG filming, and finished two books. We did go to our niece’s soccer game and then dinner last night with Collin and his girlfriend.

I’m off today, I have so many sick days from over the years that have accumulated so whenever I have an appointment I take a sick day. Today? Getting my teeth cleaned! But then I am going to visit with a friend who is in town.

  3. What a great weekend Amy! I loved that your neighborhood group is still going strong! Baby Boom is one of my favorite movies, too! Diane Keaton was so good in it. She’s truly an icon! I loved The Academy and can’t wait for book 2 next year! Have a great week!

  4. I am sad about Diane Keaton too. I like all of her movies but my favorites are Father of the Bride and The Family Stone. Sounds like you had a fun weekend with a lot of outdoor time which is the best. Our fall weather has been perfect. We stayed in Bardstown on our last visit to the Bourbon Trail. Its a cute town. A long walk these days knocks our ten year old pup out for the next two days. Hope you have a nice week!

  5. I am so jealous of your fall weather! Send some to Texas please! I am the one who asked to see your mom’s miniature scenes. They are so cute and make a great graphic for the top of your blog posts. 🎃 I bet she had alot of fun putting those together. If EO is hard yo walk you might ask a pet store about the Gentle Leader (I think that’s the brand name). We had one for our previous dog and continue to use it with our current dog. Dogs aren’t wild about it on their nose but it keeps them from pulling!

  6. Your weather for this week sounds perfect Autumn weather!
I rarely go grocery shopping now, I always get it delivered. It is so much easier.
That does look like a lovely walk with Eddie Otis.
The distillery looks fantastic. Congrats to the guy who opened it.
The Punkin Chunkin sounds fun! What a great event!
It was awful news about Diane Keaton. I want to watch all of her movies now, I had forgotten all about Baby Boom!
    The showdowboxes are brilliant.

    1. I have noticed that the UK and Australia blogs I read do grocery delivery!
I know – I forgot about Baby Boom, too. I think my family had it on VHS tape so that is why I watched it a few times.

  7. Looks like a great fall weekend! We´ve had some great weather, too, that I have been loving. How great to read a good book, spend time with your kids (and hubby) and go to your friend´s distillery. Really neat. I like your mom´s miniatures.

  8. what a PERFECT weekend!!! I would have loved every bit of it, most especially this great weather, right?? How cool that you know a distillery owner 🙂 And your mother’s miniatures are really neat – I miss all the crafty things people used to do and display….i still hang most of the cross stitches we did “in the day” and have a few afghans around but nothing like this. Being an artist is such a gift – I am envious of her talent and eye for detail 🙂

Have a great week – we DO deserve this gorgeous fall weather!!!

    1. It was really nice. It’s always hard for me to find the balance between staying home and doing things. Tom will really do most things I ask of him but I want him to have a good weekend, too. I appreciate when people are crafty, too. I’m not at all. I want to have interesting and meaningful things in my house.
      You too!

  9. The miniatures are so interesting, and look like something my mother-in-law would enjoy doing. She is very crafty. I loved seeing all your outside time in the beautiful fall weather. What a treat to do happy hour with your boys. Hope your week is off to a good start.

    1. It was her hobby for many, many years! Ah, she would. It’s an expensive hobby. Thank you. Yes, it was nice but they talk to each other and leave me out which is a twin thing! Ha!

  10. Since you are on such a roll with reading, have you thought about having a place on your blog with the books you have read and how you would rate them? I tend to look at what you are reading when I am looking for a new book:)

    1. I have and a reader suggested I use coffee cups instead of stars for a rating system. I am just not really organized about where I list my books. Maybe in 2026 I can start something like that. I don’t have a lot of bells and whistles with my blog.

  11. Once you go off-leash, you never go back lol. EO is a hunting dog at heart. Our dogs have never done leashes and it’s stressful to struggle.

I don’t think I cracked a book or a kindle app since last Tuesday. Freaking social media distracts me. I usually only read during ballet lessons since I’m in the waiting room lol.

  12. I’m looking forward to that book. I haven’t even looked for it (because I forgot). It’s so weird to think of her not writing anymore. Your weekend sounds like the perfect fall weekend. I had to chuckle at the helicopters dropping pumpkins because it reminds me of that WKRP episode with the turkeys! That is genius doing two grocery runs, except I do like to go in and buy the meat from the meat counter.

I did two hours of gallery conversations at the museum on Saturday. Sunday, I drove back to my hometown for my high school best friend. Her husband passed away last week. It’s so strange to think of people my age having their spouses pass.

Loved seeing your mom’s miniatures. A neighbor at our second house used to make the miniature things that went in these.
