It’s been a week around here! Let’s link up with both Andrea and Erika to share our happenings!

Here are some of my favorites from the week…

Monday brought a lot of excitement for Mr. Eddie Otis. He was guarding our house from some tree men. There were no women or I would have said tree people.

We had three ugly trees removed and one ugly tree encroaching from a neighbor’s yard removed. We are excited to get the stumps taken out and new trees and landscaping. It rained all morning and we didn’t know if they would come but they worked in the rain for about 3 hours and EO was pretty on edge. He wasn’t able to do his daily napping routine since he was on high alert to guard his family.

We are happy for a clean slate and a chance to make the front of our house look better!

I got a wild hair in the rain and made some bread in my bread machine. My Dad gave me this for a gift over 20 years ago I think. Rain makes me want to bake.

It turned out great and this is what I had for lunch.

After the tree people left I was able to enjoy some light rain while reading…ah…

Let’s talk about Taylor Swift…I am not a Swiftie. I missed the boat on all that and didn’t have tween or teen girls. But, who doesn’t like Shake it Off, you know?

I actually listened to a few songs from the new album – they all sound the same to me – sorry! I heard two funny quotes:

  1. It sounds like someone put into Chat GPT: “Make an album that Taylor would make”.
  2. It sounds like Travis wrote the lyrics in crayon.

Even if you like the album, you have to admit that those are funny!

My own thoughts: Taylor Swift adults also Disney adults?

Sunday night was much anticipated. Tom and I had a date night that had been on the calendar since last winter. We went to a brew pub for dinner and then walked down to the KFC Yum Center which is our big area where University of Louisville plays basketball and there are other events.

The downtown was hopping!

We had tickets for comedian Nate Bargatze and you guys, we had the second worst seats in the house. We could have only been one more row closer to the ceiling. You just have to laugh when you end up in this type of situation. Our tickets and fees were still really expensive for the second worst seats in the joint!

Let me paint you a picture…

I feared for my life. I needed a seatbelt. I was so vertical I really thought I would roll down the seats in front of me. I hung on to the back of Tom’s seat like my life depended on it (because it did). I am not used to being around so many people – 19,000 – and it set a new record for most people at a comedy show in Louisville, I think is what they announced.

People were coughing and hacking around me. When I looked down, my neck hurt.

Nate was supposed to start at 7 and he came on at maybe 8:45.

There were 5(!) comedians that opened for him. There was an MC comedian and then comedian friends. They were not funny. I am not being mean. They were supposed to warm me up but they warmed me down. Also, the sound system stopped working well after the second one and we struggled to hear.

Yes, you can call me Debbie Downer. Now, I didn’t complain online or do anything Karen-like. I am just sharing with you guys cuz you’re my friends. And, I probably should have known some of these things ahead of time but your girl misses details a lot.

I got a new keyboard to put on top of my laptop? Now I can use many L words! I can use words that start with L or contain many Ls. Love, life, liberty, luck, lucky, ludicrous. I am so totally jolly, silly, and really full of folly.

I got my Southern Living! Now, I am subscribed to Southern Living, Magnolia, and Garden & Gun – more for the garden part and less for the gun – don’t @ me as the kids say.

I love my new Pavoi earrings and have worn them every day!

I watched this show all this week! It was so good in my opinion and it made me see making dinner in a whole different light. If this young chef can make that I can make dinner! Harrumph! I got my butt up and I chopped my onion, carrot, and potato and put them on my sheet pan for dinner like I was a new woman.

I got a much needed pedicure and got rid of the royal blue!

I picked this without looking at the name but then the name made me laugh – “I knead sour-dough”.

And, I messed one toe up trying to get the toe separator out. Ugh.

I had a library pick up!

This is a series of 5 and they might be too cheesy for me but my sister talked about Tessa Bailey books this summer.

And, this….

I abandoned my current book to start it and I can’t put it down! I am loving it!

I went in Target to get a few things one afternoon this week and saw these decorative books that are really boxes. I got NY, Paris, and London and gave London to Mason.

They also had Bahamas, Hawaii, and maybe one more. They were $5 and would make great gifts. You could put money in it for a teen or young adult. You can hide your remotes from your dogs.

I got this at Target and it is also excellent like the brown sugar shaken.

Cute scene:

Eddie Otis has such an expressive face! He is getting so filled out and looks like a big solid boy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is our biggest lab yet. I know he is more than 79 pounds now. That was his last official weight.

Happy Friday and tell me one of your favorites!

Amy

  1. I enjoy Tessa Baily books a lot; they might be cheesy but they are fun and quick reads. I just finished The Academy and I really enjoyed it. That is too bad about the comedy show. I felt like I was getting vertigo just looking at your view. I am awful when it comes to picking out show seats and realizing where we are actually sitting. I almost never picture our seats being in the right spot so when we get good seats I figure it’s just a fluke.

      1. Well, if it makes you feel better Evan has helped me picked seats for the last two 21 Pilots concerts we’ve been to and both time we commented “this isn’t where I thought we were sitting.” Luckily they’ve been good seats so it’s fine but I’ve absolutely been a whole section further up the balcony at the PPAC (theater in Providence) than where I thought I was going to be seated.

  2. We went to see Nate when he was in town only because our wealth manager (that sounds funny) invited his clients to sit in his box. Which was awesome! Food and drinks and comfy seats. I thought the MC was very funny and a few of the others were too, Nate was fine but I wouldn’t pay to see him again. He was funny but I wasn’t rolling in laughter. We saw Kevin James once and he was hysterical! Anyway, those seats are scary!

It is supposed to be cool in the morning this weekend and I am so excited! Of course it will be 87 in the afternoons but that’s fall in FL!

    Have a great weekend!

  3. I thought your words about the seats were hyperbole (not to diss you- I´m sure some of words/ descriptions that I write sound like hyperbole; some of it is for effect and some is REAL) but, man, you were not kidding. I would have been nervous for you had you sent that to me in real life, in real time. Knowing that you survived with nary a roll down hill, I could relax a little while looking at it…Sounds like a fun night out. Your bread looks really good! We had one rainy day and it was glorious but it was a day that I HAD to run errands and such. It would have been nicer to enjoy the rain from the confines of the house :).

    1. I can be dramatic, but I don’t think I was about this! I am ok with a light rain while running errands but Tuesday was a torrential downpour and it was good to stay home for most of it.

  4. The Nate Bargatze night sounds like a nightmare! Hopefully it was a fun night and worth the small fortune. I love the pictures with EO and his cute little face. He’s such a beautiful boy! I love that one of him with Jack. Those books are cute! I like that as a gift idea for someone. My favorite things from the week are the nights I unexpectedly found my sons and their friend here at my house. I love unexpected visits! I’m excited that today is Friday. I’m needing a break from students! Ha!

    1. I wouldn’t call it fun. I was just not in the head space with those seats. I love getting gift ideas. That is so nice to have that time with your people!
Happy Fall break! I can’t believe you have been full time for this long already.

  5. Yay for a new keyboard!! Woo hoo!! 🤣 Omg!! I can relate to the venue issues! I went to the rodeo with friends and we were sitting pretty high up. There was literally no space to walk in front of people to get to your seats. If I stood up, there was nothing in front of me because the seat backs were so low. I was scared to death of falling forward and landing on the people in front of me! Have a good weekend!

    1. It was only $10!
Yes! That sounds horrible, too. I hate not being on the end, also. I hate having to ask someone to let me out and I hate feeling trapped. It’s a mental thing.
      You too!

  6. happy Friday! I am so happy that my daughter is married and on her honeymoon in Maui! I seriously had a wedding hangover… Not from too much alcohol mind you! And that is a real thing. I know those tickets to the comedy show… Did you not look at your area that your seat was in? We are going to see the Wizard of Oz at the sphere in Las Vegas in November… And you can check out where your seat is located from an interactive seat website. I would highly suggest that for your next adventure! Maybe your area of the country doesn’t have that? I don’t know, but we definitely have that out in California. They even have it at college stadiums across the country if I can’t see where my seat is located? I’m not going! our weather is finally starting to cool here and I could not be happier. Happy weekend

    1. I know what you mean. You are riding that high and that is a beautiful thing.
I did look at the seats and they looked fine from the chart I found. I’m not that great at stuff like that. I should have asked Tom. I have learned my lesson. Lol.

  7. Good on Eddie Otis for keeping the house safe from the tree men!
I always feel like baking when it rains, there’s something cosy about it. Yum to the bread!
hahaha! That did make me chuckle about Taylor Swift, I like her but don’t love her.
Oh my goodness! Those seats, I don’t think I could have sat there and it’s a shame it wasn’t a good show.
Hooray for all the L words! I have had to do that before when my laptop keyboard had given up.
Those decorative books are so pretty!

  8. 79 lbs is HUGE. Mav is 41 and our biggest Brittany lol. Scout is 36 pounds.

In my feeds anyway, the Venn diagram between Disney adults and Swifties is a circle. You can lie if that’s the statistic.

I wanted a jewel burgundy tone polish but I only have one brand I like right now (Topless) and I can’t find the color I want.

    1. Eddie Otis is solid, too. He isn’t fat at all but he is muscular. I am sure he is over 80 pounds now. Ernie was taller and leaner and stayed around 88 pounds most of his life. Archie was over 90 pounds.
      haha – Venn diagrams!
That sounds pretty. I have never heard of Topless. I am such a press on girl now. I love them so much.

  9. I am ready for some new landscaping around our house, too. We had minimal landscaping installed so there are lots of bare spots. That seat…oh, I would have had a panic attack! I have been in seats like that, and you just can’t relax enough to enjoy anything.

  10. Look at you making bread! I had a bread machine like that once. What a bummer about the Nate event. It seems like the arena isn’t well planned with that seating design. I have seen him twice and have tickets to see him again next year. He is definitely one of my favorites! I have that same Southern Living magazine, but haven’t taken time to read it yet. I’m behind with everything, ha!

    1. Well, the machine did the labor! It was just too big of a venue for me. I prefer to savor a magazine but I dug right in. Then, I try to read it again. Yes, you will get caught up soon!
