A few years ago I noticed my brows were changing. I’ve never really had to worry about my brows. They’ve always been thick (not quite Brooke Shields thick, but pretty thick), and honestly, I didn’t know I was supposed to worry about them. In the 90s I got them waxed. I guess I did that for some time. I never plucked them to death and I never got them waxed super thin except one time when I went to a really bad waxer.

I can’t believe what a difference brows make in your overall face. They make you look younger, more awake, and just all around better, in my opinion.

Exhibit A:

What is going on? One is higher than the other. One is thicker than the other. These are definitely not identical twins and I’m not even sure they are fraternal twins. They are a hot mess.

Exhibit B:

Better?

I’m really not great at makeup but if I can use these low brow (won’t break the bank) products, anyone can.

They are both by elf:

First I start with the pencil end:

I follow that with the spooly end and just brush them out and make them look more natural. I end with the black brow mascara product.

These products last me a really long time because I don’t use that much at a time.

I hate to browbeat this topic. I finished this post by the sweat of my brows. Please don’t knit your brows and trust me on this.

Where do you stand on brows?

  1. I use the same technique with the pencil end and then the brush. Anastasia was just on Hoda and Jenna last week talking about brow tips and it was interesting to watch. I just use a CoverGirl or Maybelline brand. I need to try the e.l.f. next though since I use that brand for so many other things.

  2. I noticed the same thing for me a couple of years ago. I’ve tried a pencil, but I didn’t love the look on me; maybe the color was too dark for me, though? Then Tanya recommended an NYX gel in dark blonde, and that’s what I’ve been using now ever since. I love it; it’s easy to maneuver and there’s no overthinking. All I do is brush it over the brows and it adds some where they’re needed and slightly darkens the ones I have. I love the look of perfect brows, but I don’t want to spend that money on expensive products, and who has the time??

    1. Yes! The pencil can be too harsh if you don’t work with it!
Also I don’t like the look of microdermabrading? It’s too much and too harsh for me at least!

  3. I have never even thought about my brows before.. I used to get them waxed pretty regularly but then just kind of started forgetting to ask about it and I just let them be. But that sort of goes along with my no makeup no muss no fuss kind of attitude when it comes to hair and face. LOL

  4. My brows have thinned some especially at the ends. I have that elf eyebrow pencil but there so many eyebrow products now! I’ll have to “brows” some on the Internet. 😜

  5. That ELF gel was a game changer for me! I do the opposite as you…I use the gel to brush everything up, then I use a pencil to fill in the gaps where needed. I also use a micro-pencil to make smaller, more hair-like strokes.

    1. Ok, I tried the opposite and didn’t like it as much for mine. I think the micropencil is a good idea. I am super happy with my two products for the price point. I have used Benefit and like this more, I think!

  6. I have realised the older I have got my eyebrows have changed, yes I over plucked them in my teens but now they are thinning out and need filling in. I have no idea what I’m doing but they look OK when I have had the eyebrow pencil at them.

    1. My cousin uses a really fine micropencil to draw in little hairs. Maybe that would help? I think there are so many products out there now! I like the idea of finishing off with the mascara type thing to hold them in place.

  7. I noticed the same thing with my brows. I definitely feel the need to fill them in. In fact, even if I am not wearing much makeup, that is a must! I also love that pencil!

    1. Oh I’m sorry! Have you looked into brow tinting? My student had awesome brows yesterday and she told me about this. It only costs $26 so I am going to check it out this summer. Thank you!

  8. Eyebrows are important! I used to have dark, thick eyebrows, and now they’re much thinner with a bald spot (!) and some white brow hairs! I use a Revlon dark brown eyebrow pencil with a little brush daily, and I think they look decent. I was horrified one day at school when I realized I forgot to do my eyebrows, lol. I try to only pluck below the eyebrow and not the white hairs in my brows. It’s hard not to because I can’t stand the white brow hairs!
