It’s been awhile since I felt that I could link up with Fashion Files and I’m still just barely able to! Thank you to Kellyann and Jill for providing this link up!

From about June 28 until about July 9, I didn’t see anyone except my immediate family and I didn’t go anywhere other than out to buy supplies because 75% of my house had Covid. I was the only one who had had Covid back in the winter, but still I was a bit worried I would get it again, so I did lay low and wear a mask.

I actually think the fact that I have a closet full of clothes and I was only wearing lounge wear and active wear helped me to look away from all the Nordstrom sale talk and the Amazon Prime talk. Is it just me or does Nordstrom’s sale offerings look exactly the same as they have for years? The booties are the same, the jackets are the same, the sweaters are the same…I know it would be great to buy one investment piece at a lower price, but there has not been anything that tempted me. It’s a great way to get a tried and true beauty product, I think, but I am using up what I have right now. I am going to see if the Wit and Wisdom Itty Bitty Bootcut jeans are available in my size tomorrow.

Loved this from one of my IG follows!

From Prime Days, I did buy a headband, some straws, and some of the Deep Sleep pillow spray.

I am a bit disgruntled with the blogging/influencer community right now. I need more blogs that help me stay satisfied with my own wardrobe and give me new ways to wear old things. I guess there is no money to be made that way, right? It just all looks the same on every blog I read. Maybe I’m the problem!

Anyway, I did get “dressed” to have a date night last Saturday. I wore my Walmart black cut offs, a black tank, and my new Kohl’s super soft button down. I wore my last year’s Mark Fisher sandals that I love. I wanted to use my black Amazon purse but my friend took it to Paris and London (with my blessing!) so I did my clear purse.

I was comfortable and I was trying out the open shirt look. By keeping the colors the same – black shorts with black tank – it can give off a slimming effect, in my opinion.

So, my friend said that this Amazon purse was the perfect size for her Paris and London trip. She proceeded to order both colors for herself and I proceeded to add “beige” to my collection. I think it looks more cream, but Amazon calls it “beige” in the listing. Here is that purse if you are interested.

It has a side pocket for your phone and an inside pocket, too. I think they look super cute with the wider guitar straps, too. I decided to get the lighter color because I have wished for it so many times this summer as I was deciding which purse to carry. I think it will be great to have! The tassel is super cute, too.

I still love my ON shoes and I love that fact that you don’t have to tie them, but I was in the market for a new exercise shoe.

I ordered some Hokas from Zappos after trying them on in a store to see how I liked them. I would have bought them from the store, but they only had a really dark purple and I just didn’t want that color.

I took my first walk in them yesterday and they are so cushiony!

What have you been wearing lately?

Amy

  1. Black tank with black cut offs are super chic! And the purses are perfect, I have some similar ones and they are great (even though I prefer to have stuff in my pockets, but no pockets in summer…). When in Florida I always have a small purse, almost like a wallet tucked under my arm – perfect!
I love my yellow Hokas! I almost don’t dare to wear them because I don’t want them to get dirty… So comfy! Are they popular in America?
I’m mostly wearing a bikini and flip flops! šŸ˜€ With nice cover ups in bright colors!

    1. Thank you! I love a purse because it becomes part of the outfit. I have lots of clutches – like the one you are describing in Florida. I mainly use them to go out to eat. I know – I don’t want these to get dirty either! They are getting super popular here and surprisingly – among the college girls!
That is the definition of summer – bikini, flip flops, cover up!

      1. Ah, clutches is what you call them! I guess it’s because you clutch them…? šŸ˜€
Hokas are quite expensive here, so it’s mostly us middle age people that wear them… (trying to be cool ;-D)

      2. Yes, I think it is! You English teacher, you! Hokas are about $150 here, but shockingly, that is how much most athletic/running shoes are costing these days. Crazy! I can’t believe how many sneakers are in my closet now. I am gonna try to be a cool girl and do the dress and sneaker look. Wait til you see how cute my niece looked in her dress and sneakers – tomorrow in my post!

      3. Go girl! Of course you should wear dress and sneakers! I prefer to bare my feet during this very short period that it’s possible… My daughters always have socks in their slippers… As I understand it you should not show your toes… (!?) Well, great if you haven’t done your feet… šŸ˜€

      4. I’m gonna try it! We can show our toes at school, in fact teachers have zero dress code in my district! It is a great option when you have hammer time in your shoes (that means don’t have a fresh pedicure).

  2. You are so right about the NSale, it is the same thing year after year – booties, sweaters, jeans. I ordered 3 things and they haven’t yet arrived. Very exciting pieces: 1 bra, i pair of undies, and one blazer! I only ordered a few things from Prime this week too – I’m becoming very disillusioned with Amazon fashion. Quite a bit of it is so cheaply made and ends up in my donate pile after a season. I am changing my personal style (because I seem to have found one after 54 years) and all that crazy crap doesn’t really suit me.
It’s a tough road to hoe as a blogger. There are different kinds of blogs – since mine has shopping in the title I’ll never apologize for that – ha!! But I know what you mean and the truth behind it is that many of the really big bloggers buy and return, no one needs that many clothes. It takes a lot of discipline to try and use what you have to re-create the looks you like.
I’ll stop now, I am basically publishing a short blog post in your comments, lol! So glad you linked up with us!

    1. Totally! But, you did it right with ordering some staples/undergarments because those are great deals. Also, you can return if they aren’t perfect. Ok, we need an official blazer count! I am so addicted to that scuba fabric that I just can’t do any other. Plus, I need the stretch for my broad shoulders. More scuba! Lol!
I agree about Amazon. I try to stick to tried and true brands like Umgee or Amazon Essentials, but the cheap stuff is not sized well for me usually and like you said, it is the stuff that doesn’t go the distance. There have been a few exceptions. My ideal would be to only shop my local boutiques.
I think you are the fashion blogger that actually shows how to wear the pieces in multiple ways. You really do wear your stuff and it isn’t fake. This is hard to find these days. I am loving turning to Pinterest for ideas now. I will put in “white button down” and see how someone is wearing it. This is such a useful tool for me because there are very few fashion blogs I like these days!

  3. Your outfit is cute! My boutique owner friend calls that look a “column” that’s the same color, with an accent piece on top for a pop of color, which could be anything from white to a bright pattern. I dress like that often, I feel like. She’s taught me how to dress in years past…I used to wear nothing but t-shirts and shorts in the summer and I don’t know what in the fall and winter. I dress the same now, 100% of the time, meaning that all my clothes are similar in look, no matter where I’m going or what I’m doing. The only down side to that is that I don’t have many lounging around clothes, so I wear the same few things over and over when I’m at home. BUT, I’m at home, so it’s not a big deal. I like for my outfits to look “cute”, whatever that means. 🤣

You know I agree about the blogs I read right now! I just skip the days when they talk fashion, because I will never buy what they “sell”. I did buy some cute dresses off of Amazon this spring, which turned out great, but that’s all I’ve tried from there, clothing wise. I JUST bought that purse on Amazon last night! I bought it in “nude”, because it’ll match the straps that I already own. I’ve heard great things about that brand of shoe–I wish I could wear tennis shoes! I can’t because of a bone in my foot that I’ve broken twice. I can’t wear anything restricting over the top of that foot, so I wear lots of good slip-on shoes instead, or sandals/flats/wedges.

I hope you have a great day!

    1. Thank you! Yes, that is the term. I forgot! But, I use this technique a lot because my mid-section is my problem area – well, my biggest problem area. My at-home wear is kinda sad, too. But I often will wear a knit dress in the summer at home. I wear black tanks and shorts to lounge and to sleep in, but they need an upgrade. I’m super cheap about the things that noone will see!

    2. Responding in two parts because it wouldn’t let me type anymore.
I skip over lots of that, too, unless it’s something I can copy from my own closet. I am often influenced to buy Target stuff, though. I love a few of their lines and the quality is better these days I think. I hope you love the purse! It will look great with your cute dresses. I am so sorry about your foot issue. Have you gone to a foot store? We have one called The Walking Company and they have you stand on a machine and they really help you with options. I think there are running stores that do this, too. Can you wear the slip on Skechers Go Walk? I hope you aren’t in constant pain.
      You too!

  4. My favorite blogs to read are the ones where you see multiple ways to wear a piece or where the focus is wearing what you have and only adding occasional new pieces. I also love copying outfits. All this to say that so far this month I haven’t bought anything and just wearing my stuff in new ways. I guess it helped that I noticed that summer is way more expensive than I thought!

    1. Yes! But, as you know that takes so much time to try on and style the clothes and take all of the photos. I have mad respect for people who can do that. I thought I would have all this time in the summer for outfit photos and I am just lazy with my wardrobe and my photo taking!
That is amazing that you haven’t bought anything and I also think you are one of the bloggers who does a great job with using what they have and being content with what you have.
I have spent so much on groceries! OMG! I did even worse this month than last.

    1. Thank you for commenting, Mary-Lee Z! I love your name! Orange is one of my favorite colors! That would look really good with a guitar strap, too. Do you remember the orange, navy, tan camo strap I bought for my friend’s Auburn girl? That would look great. I get mad at myself sometimes for sticking to neutrals when I think sometimes a bold color makes the outfit.
I hope you like the purse!

  5. You are so right about the sales/influencers. Sometime I feel bloggers are just the new advertising tool used by promoters to make a sale. I appreciate any advice and would also love to see bloggers advise on how to use what you have in your closet, etc. I guess that doesn’t pay well. Kudos to you, I do enjoy your blog.

    1. I always hate to come off as too negative on my blog, but it’s how I feel. I think you might be right. And, hey – more power to these women for being able to make that kind of money. If someone offered it to me, I would probably sell out! Ha! I don’t love the posts that try to “disguise” the selling of the product. Be up front with us! I hope to do more fashion posts with things in my closet and different variations. It’s a lot of work to try multiple things on for no reason and take photos. My outfits are really what I wear – so far! Ha!
      Thank you for commenting, Ruth!

    1. Thank you! And, maybe I should have left the tank untucked for a more flattering look? I’m loving this button down. I have looked for one for years that felt like “me”. I am so happy to finally have your light purse color! Yippee!

  6. I’m in a total post-partum rut still. I’ve gotten a bunch of random JCrew Factory pieces for summer lately. I only bought Crest White Strips from Prime Days. Just bc they’ve been on my shopping list and I keep forgetting.
The Nordstrom stuff is ABSOLUTELY the same every year. Ugh. There is one thing I want (a bag) and I seriously doubt it’ll be available when I can shop with all the other peasants in, like, August lol.
Back in the day, Kendi from Kendi Every Day did remixes that were super inspiring and now she just wears everything sponsored. Disappointing.

    1. Yes, I bet. Also, it’s so hot you probably don’t feel like putting on real clothes. J. Crew Factory has some great prices. I am often tempted, but I am not sure of their sizing and if I remember correctly it doesn’t work great with my body type. Maybe I’m making that up. You did great with Prime Days then! You will still have the excitement of a package arriving! Lol!
It really is the same. I think you can shop tomorrow because I am a peasant, too! I almost typed “pheasant”. I remember those posts from kendi and I also loved a blog where the lady didn’t show her head – she was headless. She had great style! lol!

  7. Love your “column” look. The purse has been in my cart forever. I need to push “buy.” I know what you mean about bloggers/influencers. Everything has changed in the last few years. I often don’t read the fashion posts on certain sites because I know I won’t be clicking and buying anything. 😦
    Have a fantastic Friday!

    1. That’s what it’s called! I forgot! Girl, get you that purse. I even love to be hands free for the grocery, farmer’s market, etc. I love being able to leave my cart for a minute since my purse is on my body. It really has changed but I still love my blogs! I have been reading them for so long now. I know what you mean. I just scroll on through because I am the same. Every now and then I do click, but I don’t like succumbing to the buy more mindset.

  8. I find myself a little bored with some of the fashion blogs too. Many of them I do not not even open anymore. Lately you are one of my favorites as I keep thinking about joining WW again – I find you engaging and normal so thanks for taking the time to make entries for us all to read and enjoy.

    1. I know. They even all talk about the same products on the same days now, right? You are so sweet to say that. I was inspired by a few ladies who had done WW before me. I feel like I talk about the same things a lot, but those are the things constantly on my mind, I guess. I hope to do more this fall about taking what you already have in your closet and not perpetuating the buy more culture.
As far as joining WW – I say do it! You may just need a re-set and a re-teaching of what you should be eating. Remember to give yourself grace and the first week won’t be perfect. Heck, it may never be perfect. I first got 18 points on WW Purple and honestly, I probably had been eating 80-100 points a day before I joined. I was that far off track. I felt like it was a part time job at first to make the lists, get the recipe ideas, shop for the food, and cook the food. But, it was absolutely worth it because I feel so much better. I still need to lose a lot more. I am telling myself this is forever and that is why balance is so important.
You made my day, Janet! Thank you for your positivity!

  9. I purchased my favorite bra from the NSale and that deodorant and a navy barefoot cardigan. I had sold or gave away all of my old ones. So I am happy to have a new one and anything Navy is awesome. I work out every day, Athleta, lululemon and my Tommy John Lounge wear. That is my daily outfits!
