How was your Thanksgiving?  It went by fast!  This year didn’t feel like Thanksgiving for me because normally we would do my side of the family today but we are on day 17 in the hospital for my dad and it seems like we take one step forward only to take two steps back.

Wednesday morning I got out the door early for a Trader Joe’s run and saw these adorable olive oil bowls for $5.99.  Add a bottle of olive oil and that would make a great hostess gift!

I picked up a few necessities and some easy meals to have on hand because I didn’t know what the weekend would hold.

Then, I picked my mom up at my house (she is staying with me because my parents live an hour away and my dad was transported to my big city hospital from their hometown hospital after one day) and took her to a hair appointment.  I did my nails in the car while waiting.

I took my mom to the hospital after her hair appointment and then met this lovely coworker at her suggestion for some stress relief.  We may have taken advantage of their $10 bottomless sangria, ham and chicken croquettes, and patatas bravas.  Yum.  I highly recommend this restaurant if you are local.

Wednesday night my family of four went to Royals Hot Chicken before the hospital.  Again, I highly recommend!

Thanksgiving morning and my mom and I did a Starbuck’s run before the hospital.  I so appreciate all of the hospital workers that keep things going on a holiday.  It’s not easy I know.

My sister and her family were at the hospital so I went home and had an apple cider mimosa while cooking for hub’s side of the family here in town.

The sun was bright and it was a super nice day.  This is what I ended up wearing.

Two of my beautiful nieces.

Their beautiful mama, my sister in law, in her cute outfit.  Tom Petty t-shirt she found on Etsy and her leopard flats.  I felt it was blog worthy!

It was a nice day.

Are you participating in Black Friday Sales?  I’m more of a Cyber Monday girl!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Sorry your dad is still in the hospital. I’m sure that made for a weird feeling Thanksgiving. I’m glad you seemed able to have a pretty OK week even with all that is going on. We had record breaking (COLD) temps here on Thanksgiving so we were bundled up and had a fire going in the fireplace too. Brr!

    1. Thank you! My sisters convinced me to take some time for myself and it did wonders. Now we are trying to get my mom to do the same. Our day was around 55 degrees! Your cold sounds cozy but it’s really been cold too early this year! Have a restful weekend!

  2. Oh Amy, I’m so sorry your sweet dad is still in the hospital. Next year y’all will make up for it! I think it’s a great idea to get together with friends and de-stress. You had me at bottomless sangria! It’s also great that your mom was able to get out and get her hair done. Praying your dad is released soon!

  3. Sorry to hear about your Dad – I hope he gets better soon, and I know how hard it can be on the spouse too, especially when the hospital isn’t local. I love the olive wood bowls – I bet if you put them on a table outside to dine in summer they will smell amazing. We sat and dined under olive trees in Spain last year and they smell divine when warm! Delicious tapas – what an immense bargain too, I am jealous, I could just do with that right now! Are you all back at work now after Thanksgiving or is it a super long weekend for everyone? J xx

    1. Great idea about bowls! We were out from Wednesday until next Monday thankfully. Then we have 4 full weeks until Christmas break.
Thank you Joanne. This has been really hard. My husband has been wonderful as have my boys.

  4. Amy, I am so sorry about your week and your dad. It does sound like you are able to squeeze in some extra time with loved ones which can be a great way to break up the hospital visits. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  5. I’m so sorry about your dad still being in the hospital 😦

That is a genius idea with the olive oil bowls. I’m always looking for stocking stuffer or hostess ideas. I took advantage of several black friday sales but will be online tomorrow trying to buy the rest of my gifts. My feet are telling me I overdid it!

    1. Thank you Shannon! I have bought zero gifts so far but this is typical of me. We simplified several years ago and I usually get everything done in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I could probably even wait until we get out for Christmas break!
      Rest those feet!
Trader Joe’s has great gifts in my opinion!

  6. Phu, tough time for you. I went through something similar a couple of years ago and I was so thankful for the support from my husband and kids – family is everything!
Well, I still want to tell you that I enjoy your blog immensely, American traditions are so fun to read about, well everything about the US actually!
