How is it the end of October, you guys? Welcome to another edition of Fashion Files with Marsha and me!

We had a week of the most beautiful weather last week that I feel spoiled! It was low 70s and sunny every. single. day. I could live like that year-round! But, also, I am all ready to go with my rain gear – new Athleta long rain jacket, new short platform Hunter boots. Bring it on, baby!

I actually got dressed quite a bit. I accidentally, shopped, too. Oops.

Let’s take a look…

I wore this to go to a consignment store with my friend spur of the moment. She said she was going to Sassy Fox, and I was free, so I went, too! I didn’t buy anything, but I had fun looking.

I got complimented on my blouse, but I feel like this boutique blouse is one size too big. I love it so much, though. I bought it last year and wore it on Thanksgiving. The jeans are my only button and zip Halara jeans (the others are pull on) and they have cool piping down the sides. I got the clogs/mules for teaching from Macy’s and they are quite comfortable. Honestly, y’all, throwing on a blouse and jeans is just as easy as leggings and a sweatshirt if you are leaving the house. Ted Talk over.

Baby’s first (I’m the baby) Spanx Air Essentials came in the mail and I immediately put it on and thought I might never take it off. I think I got the French Gray color and I just happened to catch the sizes I needed available. I got petite length in the pants and you can still see they are generous in length. I love to order a “set” separately so I can get different sizes in the top and the bottom. I got this for a steal compared to regular prices. The top was $49 and the bottoms were $39. That is still very pricey but it really is that good. Tanya says she thinks Walmart’s Avia brand is a possible dupe. I did look at that but it doesn’t come in different pant lengths. Anyhow, I think I shall live in this set.

For hair day, I wore this. I have on pull on darker Halaras. Darker washes are really more flattering, I believe. It was pretty warm by my 3:30 appointment and I get hot under my cape so I wore my open toe Kork-Ease and I wore a short sleeve boutique blouse. When I say “boutique blouse” I usually mean a blouse by Umgee or Entro. Those are the two brands I usually buy at my little local boutiques. Again, throwing on a blouse and a pair of jeans is just as easy as throwing on sweatpants and a tee!

I wore this for dog walking and the only reason I show it here is to say I love my new J.Crew Factory barn jacket! It’s so comfortable and the material is really great. My mirror has lotion on it. Time to go clean it!

I am so excited to wear my Cicy Bell brown polka dot sweater. I tried it on as a homecoming option but realized it would be way too warm.

I wore this to run a couple of errands on Friday. These are the Amazon fantastic jeans and my new Amazon flats (not much support, fyi) along with a leopard boutique blouse. I ordered the jeans in pecan brown for my sis and she loves them. Mine are one of the lighter washes. Notice they are cropped on the model but full on me at 5’4″.

I’m going to say it one more time – it was just as easy to throw on a blouse and jeans as it was to put on a sweatshirt and sweatpants! He,he. As you can see, I rotated through several of my fall blouses last week. I know the short sleeve ones will need another layer soon or I will move on to the other long sleeved ones.

Do you have any local boutiques? Mine are often clothing and gifts combined. Look around and see what you have. I pay a little bit more, but the items are unique and get a lot of wear and I am also helping a small business.

Homecoming was going to end up being pretty warm and my college colors are black and orange. I decided to wear a really old sleeveless black Loft piece with my new this summer J.Crew Factory sweater thing. They showed it as a swim coverup online! I wore my long Kendra Scott necklace that I got 50% off on one of my birthdays with their deal. I wore my black kitten heel booties.

This photo to show you my booties:

I tried on a couple of other options but decided I would be too warm.

This is a boutique blouse and the material is quite thick:

And I thought about my new this season crochet duster but again, I thought I would be too warm.

Do you have a favorite? Also, I want to say that your style isn’t my style, and my style isn’t your style. I love when people find their style. How do you want to feel? What items make you feel like yourself? It’s about way more than the clothes.

Confession Time:

I really don’t NEED anything. I just happened to poke around the Walmart site because I wanted a long-sleeved striped shirt. I haven’t ordered clothing from Walmart in quite awhile but Kellyann always finds great things there!

I realized I still had the cutest dog sweater in my cart and then I added three things. Then, I added fish sticks, coffee, Gatorade, and a few other things and thought what a time to be alive when I can get cute clothes delivered to my door with fish sticks!

Walmart has a new brand called Scenario. I felt like long sleeve tees was a category missing in my closet and really liked the look of several striped tees I had been seeing. I love a flannel and I like to “dress it up” with long necklaces.

Ignore the hair, but here is my cute new doggy sweater! It is as soft as soft can be!

I will let you know when the other items come in and we can discuss.

What have you been wearing lately?

Please join us here!

  1. What have I been wearing? Dare I say sweatshirts, lol?! No, I get what you’re saying about blouses/sweatshirts. If I am going somewhere 100% non social like the grocery store, I will wear a sweatshirt but if I’m doing something with others or a teensy bit more formal I’ll wear a blouse. Your outfits all look nice on you! I like the Amazon jeans quite a bit and your Spanx set. Do you see you wearing that more around the house as loungewear or will you wear the set out sort of in lieu of leggings/sweatshirt for running errands?

  2. We do not have any local boutiques near us. I thought all the shops you had taken us to in Louisville were so cute but couldn’t think of any like that near us. I agree that darker jeans seems a bit dressier.

  3. Thanks for the shout out – love the dog sweater on you! Honestly Walmart quality and style is hard to beat right now. They need to never, ever let Brandon Maxwell leave, he has single handedly put them on the map!
I couldn’t agree more, it is just as easy to put on pants and a top as it is sweats and a tee. The pay off is so much better, I challenge anyone to tell me they don’t feel just a bit more confident when they get dressed!

    1. Thank you! I am debating if I need to go down a size but I will probably wear a collared shirt under! I don’t know Brandon Maxwell, but I will take your word for it!
      Right?
I felt so great doing my outings last week in my fall blouses!

  4. I love all those fall blouses and jeans! I’m not wearing my jeans yet, because I need more tops. I don’t have many at all that look good with jeans. Ugh! I don’t even know where to start, but I might go back to Old Navy this week. I get what you’re saying about the jeans/top versus leggings/tee or top, but I really love my leggings. I love how they feel, but I also love how they look. I just dress mine up a bit more with tops that look better with those type of bottoms. The tops I wear don’t look great with jeans, at least in my opinion. And I have a rule about wide leg jeans and needing a more fitted top with those…and I’m not loving fitted tops right now. Ha!

    1. Old Navy is a good choice. Do you still have some boutiques? I’m not saying to never wear leggings and I mean as athletic gear – not like yours. I agree that a fitted blouse with wide legs is better. You can also try a little tuck and then pull it out.

  6. I will weigh in on the jeans vs. leggings. I am team jeans all the way. I think there are so many styles, cuts, hues, to jeans that everyone can make them work. Leggings not so much. I feel only partly dressed when I wear leggings but maybe that’s just me.

    1. You are so right about that! I do plan to wear my new J.Jill leggings in a hopefully chic way but I prefer a jeans outfit for a more put together look most of the time!

  7. Well I don’t need a thing, but I spend beaucoup money on 2 boutique items from my friend in Arizona. She shared a couple new things on Facebook and I had to get them. Very unique and I will make sure to get that cost per wear down! I usually don’t shop clothes at the local boutique as the style is not mine, but I get my accessories there. I bought a pair of mules from Target last week too and thrifted a pair of Halara Jeans. And I don’t need anything… I really like all of your blouses and you are right: it is as easy to pair a pretty blouse and jeans as wearing a sweatshirt and leggings. Looking cute makes a difference in how I feel! And sometimes how seriously people view you.

    1. That’s right. That’s how I justify it, too. I also like boutique accessories. It is so fun to put together outfits and it makes me feel good. I totally agree!

  8. As usual all of your outfits are cute but i especially love the large floral print top and leopard top. I love your boho style. The Spanx outfit looks so comfy. I have hesitated to buy anything made of that fabric because I am afraid it will pill easily. Let me know what your experience is with it. I’m always impressed with the Avia brand at Walmart. Maybe I should try a dupe from there first.

    1. Thank you! I like those, too. I hope it doesn’t pill. I will let you all know. You should if you can handle that length of pant. They would be too long on me and I don’t want to take them to get hemmed.

    1. Thank you so much! When I saw that duster in the heat of summer I had to have it and knew it would be gone if I didn’t snag it. I hope to wear it mostly like a coat or a topper.

  10. Hi, Amy.
I don’t have a blog, but on Tuesdays I wish I did so that I could participate in Fashion Files. I love seeing what everyone is wearing. I work from home and most days wear lounge wear because it’s the most comfortable for sitting at my desk.
My favorite outfit was one not worn: the alternative homecoming ‘fit with the duster. Runner up was what you actually wore for homecoming. I love that you repurposed a swimsuit coverup.

I can’t wait to wear that duster outfit – just needed it to be about 20 degrees colder – thank you! I wore it to a concert in September that was at night.
I never thought it would be a coverup for me but third layer.
Thank you so much for commenting!

    1. It’s so soft, too! I can’t wait to wear it. Now I have a fish, a dog, and a horse cardigan – lol. I bought new J.Jill black leggings and plan to wear them with my white button down and maybe more but I meant more athletic leggings that people wear out. Still, I feel more put together in a jeans outfit. Thank you!

  11. I love all your boutique tops! They’re so unique and such great prints and colors. I also like dark denim better than lighter. We have a cute boutique that really just sells apparel with a few cute things that aren’t. There are other little boutiques that sell home decor and such. Our weather is just as glorious! It can stay this way for a couple of months!

    1. Thank you! Dark definitely looks better on me but I do love a light wash, too. We have quite a few boutiques that I often wonder how they all stay in business. I think we have rain coming soon so I am trying to savor the sun!
