1. This week’s Hodgepodge lands on ‘Back To The Future Day’. October 21, 2015 was the date the movie characters (Marty McFly, Doc, and Jennifer Parker) traveled to in the future in the 1989 film Back To The Future Part 2.
Did you see the movie? Tell us a something about what was happening in your life in the fall of 2015.
How fun! I love the Back to the Future movies.
In 2015, my kids were 13 so they were in middle school. I was teaching at the high school that their middle school fed into and still had several years left before retirement. I was probably worried about my kids starting high school and how we would pay for college. My Dad was still flying and running 5 miles a day. My parents were traveling with friends and taking river cruises, staying in abbeys in France (they had a friend who rented one), and enjoying their grandkids.
2. Which -ber month is your favorite? (September, October, November, December). Explain why.
This is hard! I think October! I like all of the decor, events, festivals, and I feel like the weather is better than September’s weather. I like November, too, but it turns colder and grayer outside and while I love Christmas, I know that WINTER IS COMING!
3. Red, yellow, orange, bronze…your favorite fall color to wear? To eat? To see in nature?
All of these! I love yellow and orange. I love to see red leaves, though. As for foods, I’m not sure. I do love yellow squash!
4. What do you miss most about being 20?
I had a lot of fun in my 20s. I lived in an apartment from age 22 to age 28. First, I lived in two different apartments with my college roommate Heather and then I lived alone before getting married. We watched Friends and thought we were living a similar life to the characters! I already had a serious job as a high school teacher at 22, but I still did all the fun things on the weekends and probably on some weeknights, too. Around 25 right before I met Tom I started to slow down and started to go home early, go out less, wake up early, etc. I think if I had met him any younger, I wouldn’t have been ready, you know? We had a nice group of friends that we had a lot of fun with while I was still in my 20s, though. We did a lot of fun things!
I was the photographer or the one with the camera and these photos are in albums!

I went out a lot!
I got invited to a co-worker’s houseboat and got to waterski, I traveled a bunch, I went to tons of weddings, I shopped for my “going out top” for that night. I had very thin eyebrows.

5. We’re roughly three quarters of the way through the year. What’s one goal, habit, or mindset you want to purposely carry into the final weeks of the year? Elaborate.
I want to continue working on getting a good step count, eating more protein, and working on my mental and emotional health. I want to stop taking things personally and being so sensitive, too.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I have had a few experiences lately where I ask the person I’m talking to questions about their life, but they don’t ask me even one question about mine. My sister Kate says that I always tell people without them asking so they don’t have to ask or perhaps they read my blog? But if I do tell something or they read my blog, they could do a follow up question, no? They could even say, “I read about this on your blog and I wanted to know more”. I guess I always walk away shocked that someone doesn’t turn the conversation around even once. Do you notice this in your life? Now, I do have several people who are very good about asking, so it’s not everyone!

Happy Hump Day and thanks for reading!
Amy
So many fun throwback photos in this post! I honestly don’t remember much about my 20’s though I did just realize Ben and I were 20 when we had our house warming party as my mother in law had to supply alcohol since we weren’t old enough to buy it ourselves…

Thank you! I remember a lot but I also have a lot of photos so that helps! That’s funny!

Great throw back pics! I wasn’t sure if the question pertained to exactly age 20 or our entire 20’s but you answered it well and it was fun to see your photos. Yes, to question 6! I have met people like that. They appear to just want to talk- they don’t seem interested in you. I ask people many questions because I prefer to listen rather than talk but I still want to feel like the person I’m talking with is a little bit interested in me!!

Thank you! My early twenties were different from my late twenties so I just went with early!
I know! I feel like it’s our ME culture, you know? I sometimes get excited when someone says something that I relate to and I want to share but I try to go back to them. I think I’m a good question asker and I tend to go deeper than the surface level questions but others just aren’t deep at all. Lol.

I loved all your answers! It was fun to see young Amy being so carefree. I’m sorry to hear that you don’t often get questions asked back when you’re with a friend. Gosh, I hope I ask you questions! I think I do? I’ve experienced the same thing, though. I feel like it’s because when you’re a good conversationalist and keep it rolling so to speak, that it may not afford the other person time enough to ask something back. I’ve thought a lot about this!
I hope you have a great day, my friend! xoxo

Thank you! I’m not as carefree anymore but I am usually still kind of the life of the party if I’m well rested, fed, and feel good?
You do! I think being aware of it makes you good at it.
Thank you and you, too!

#6? Unfortunately yes- all the time- sigh- oh well….I think we are alot alike…great listeners…loving to share…just disappointed when it is one-sided. Anyway- I love all of the colors too and I am obsessing over your 20 year old pictures…the thin eyebrows? Didn’t everyone have those at that time? Too funny š

I also have friends who hardly say anything about themselves and then say, “but I want to hear about you” and I have to back them up and say I’m not done hearing about them! Thank you! Yes, to the thin eyebrows and Rachel haircut from Friends! Lol!

I absolutely notice and have had this experience several times recently. Conversation kind of comes to a halt because it’s supposed to be back and forth and we’re only do back, not forth. Not sure why this seems to happen more now but I definitely see it. We had a lot of fun with friends in our 20’s especially too. Feels like a lifetime ago in many ways. We’re still having fun though! Enjoy your day!

Right? It’s so odd to me! Sometimes I insert myself and just start talking about me, but recently I talked to someone for 15 minutes or so and not a thing was asked about me.
I’m just wondering is it’s this culture we are in that is ME ME ME. You do you. That kind of thing? Or, the other person genuinely has no curiosity about you.
You really are having fun! There is a big difference between one spouse being retired and both being retired I have found. My friend enjoyed 8 years being retired and now her husband is, too, and it’s taking her some time to adjust.

It sounds like 2015 was a good year for you.
I like all the Ber months but not the cold that comes with it. November is my favourite with it being my birthday and getting excited for Christmas.
I love how your 20s sounded. Fantastic throwback photos and what a great time for you! The eyebrow line did make me chuckle, same! I so regret over plucking them now. lol

I’m missing out by not participating in this Hodgepodge this week! I started a post yesterday that isn’t yet finished. . .and my day is FULL again (love that they are full and I’m not “looking for things to do”) so we’ll see.
I wanted to comment on your random thought. A recruiter had called me out of the blue about a job. I responded and went on to interview 4 (5???) times with this company – 2 in-person at their office. Anyway, before an offer was sent (the recruiter said one was coming) I decided to let them know I no longer wanted to pursue the opportunity. There were a few red flags but one of them, and I told the recruiter this, was that they didn’t ask my what *I* wanted. I understand they are hiring me for a job and I will get paid to do it and they were trying to figure out if I had the skills to do it (yes, I did, I wasn’t worried about that part) but in the end, I told him they didn’t seem to care about what I would bring to the table, just that I could meet their needs. Anyway, I don’t know if that’s the same, but I get what you’re saying. Sometimes I think people don’t ask me things because my answers are never short enough?? Hahaha. . .I like details š Anyway, I only comment on your stuff about half the time because I *always* have follow-up questions but forget to go back and read if you do respond (I know you’re good at it). Love your “carry into the end of the year” habits. Have you read “The Let Them Theory”?

Thank you and so interesting about those interviews!
I have skimmed it but I like the theory. Iām a work in progress. Tom has helped me a lot with this because he is good at not letting some things affect him.
We need to talk. Too much to write!
