Hello! Well, last week I don’t even think I bothered with real clothes from Monday through Wednesday. It was athletic shorts and tees to run errands and walk the dog. I’m at the point in the summer where I’m over the heat, over the clothes, and over the season! This is pretty typical for me in August.

By Thursday, I was ready to put something nicer on. I paired my fun summer skort from Old Navy with my newer white J.Crew Factory blouse. Both of these turned out to be excellent purchases. I get compliments on this skort every time I wear it. It’s just so fun. And, the blouse, it’s just perfect. One of my dear blog readers commented that I should get a striped one. It’s $50! That’s a lot for this born and bred bargain hunter, but when you consider price per wear and just how perfect it is…

The buckle sandals are probably 5 years old from Target. As a general rule I don’t let myself buy Target shoes because they are usually impulse and get donated. These turned out to be a good purchase, too.

Friday, I paired my other Old Navy skort from this season (orange gauze) with a white tee and my kimono. FYI – I learned that flowy kimonos make me hot. I took it off for the car and then I couldn’t keep it on after I got out of the car! It’s just fussy, too. Did I ever tell you about the time I was at school rushing to use the restroom and zipped it in my jeans and had to be rescued by a co-worker who had to rip it and then I had to take it to the tailor to get it fixed and I was late to class? Yeah, that’s typical Amy.

For the movie theater, I wore flip flops, cut offs, a white tee shirt with a graphic, and my striped button up.

I’m definitely starting to think about fall and transitioning to fall. Are you? I did not purchase anything from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but looking kind of gets you in the mood for fall.

I also look at Instagram and get inspiration.

I love this look even though it does say “teacher”. I’m trying not to dress like a teacher now! I have brown knit pants, I have a chambray, and I have a scarf.

I take inspiration from retailer ads. I used to do this from magazines. Do you snap screenshots of outfits you want to copy? I think we get bogged down with trying to be exact, but it really doesn’t have to be an exact copy. Your version might be better!

I love the white/off white blouse (I don’t have an exact but I have something similar), and I have dark jeans (not exactly like this) and I have black Dansko Mary Janes. I think the jeans need to be a little shorter to show some ankle for this look. I think her burgundy color is better, but I’m going to use what I have.

I think I would only do this look until Labor Day -white on white with tan flip flops. I don’t have a jean jacket but a chambray button up would work.

I know they say the old rules about white after Labor Day don’t apply, but after August, I feel like white pants, anything too tropical, and gauzy gear all look too summery for me and where I live. You may feel differently and that’s ok. I like to pull those things from my closet or from my rotation. I’m tired of those things anyhow at the end of August.

Dark wide leg jeans, a white blouse, and flip flops:

I found a new IG account that belongs to a professor living in Copenhagen.

Do you want to know what all the cool girls are wearing in Copenhagen? Honestly, it hadn’t crossed my mind. However, did you know the Danish are some of the happiest people on Earth? Maybe it’s due to the “cool girls”?

Apparently, they wear baggy jeans with flip flops. Ok. done. I will try this and be cool.

They wear white tops with jeans and flip flops. I like the pop of the red handbag. I don’t have one, but that’s ok.

Look for me to try some of these outfits!

  1. Someone takes a random picture of someone in a “cool” city and uses the picture for IG but covers the unwitting subject’s face with a heart emoji? Interesting! Someone is way more into fashion than I am (though I could have told you that- I posted about socks and a bra, lol!). I like all of your late summer outfits! You definitely are giving almost fall vibes but still hot as all get out in middle America :). Thanks for the link up!

    1. Well, at least they are “cool”? I don’t know. Fashion and trends have always been something I like to talk about and watch. It’s nice to be this age when I can say I will never do a certain trend, though. I am not wearing anything remotely fall yet, but I am dreaming of it. The long sleeve was just for the movie theater. What is your first day of work? Gotta get that new work wardrobe ready!

  2. Lots of cute outfits! I don’t do well with kimonos or even cardigans as they never make it the whole day. I do find they are just too fussy and I always have to adjust them. I have a few see through pull over tops that I like much better as I don’t have to fuss with them at all.

  3. I am loving all these jeans from Anthro. I love the idea of dressing like a Danish woman but baggy pants and loose clothing are not great on this short body of mine. Lol! I am starting to think of fall but haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet. Just found so amazing pieces for the end of summer. Thanks for the link up!

    1. The jean details are just amazing! Did you see Kellyann’s track jeans in charcoal? I want those but I know they will be too long!
I agree – I have to be careful with the baggy fit.
I am done with summer purchases – except for Target sale linen pants coming to me this week. I looked all summer so hoping these work.
I am gathering fall inspo right now!

  4. Yep! I am starting to feel that I am done with summer and the heat too. We have another mini heatwave here later this week and all I want is a bit of rain and chilly weather. I love the print on your skort, I saw something similar in a clothes store here and actually thought of you. The kimono is pretty but I would find it too flappy and I would end up getting stuck in doors or things like that. lol

  5. I used to love kimonos but most are made of polyester and they just made me hot.

I am ready for fall clothes but our temps say otherwise! They will continue to do so for the next several months but that won’t stop me from pushing the envelope a bit and wearing what I can!

    xo,

    1. Yeah, I agree. We have had your weather lately. Oh, it’s awful.
Yes, so true! I am gathering inspo. I want the black/charcoal track sweatpant jeans you shared!

  6. I am still on the wide leg jeans trend but jeans will be a late October thing. I do need a new button down but I’m not willing to pay more than $25 so we’ll see when a sale hits somewhere. I cannot stand getting dressed in August. 97 degrees today…

    1. I have found that the wide leg is cooler than the skinny jean. Since nothing is touching your bod tightly and the air can flow, I have worn them on a few days in the 80s. That was probably the worst part of going back to school in August – the sweaty first days!

  7. Oh girl I am the same way. I work from home most of the time so it is often a nice top and sweats/leggings on the bottom- ha! Love your summer outfits though…always 🙂

    1. I’m sure you don’t! Have you explored going slightly wide leg – like baby wide leg? Lol. I love the Pavoi brand on Amazon and here is something similar:

  8. This is so funny because I had written I was done with summer but you probably weren’t! It’s just been so hot and icky (good fourth grade word there). I’ve been wearing lots of dresses because they’re so much cooler than anything else. I’m ready for fall and cozy sweatshirts. I can’t really do the baggy jean thing, either. I just look like I’m wearing jeans that are too big rather than looking cool!

  9. I definitely take screenshots of outfits I want to copy because every so often I need some new inspiration. I have been looking at some of my shoes trying to decide whether to get rid of those buys where I bought them because they were cute but only wear them for pics because they hurt. Probably need to say bye! I am at that point with summer too. I still have things I can and want to wear but it is so humid, I almost am at the point of not caring to wear anything cute. I should wear some of my skorts and shorter skirts: I really haven’t so far.

  10. Oh my goodness, the story about zipping your kimono into your jeans had me laughing out loud!

I totally agree with you on the J.Crew Factory blouse; if the price per wear is tiny, it’s worth every penny of that $50! And yes to shopping your own closet for fall—that white top and dark jeans combo with your Danskos is going to look amazing.

Can’t wait to see you rocking the “cool girl Copenhagen” baggy jeans and flip-flops look soon!

  11. We all gathered for back to school night and some of the teens (kids of teachers/staff) were hanging out in the school kitchen while we were eating before everyone arrived. All the Moms were dying laughing about the baggy jeans, tight and cropped shirts and flip flops going on- it felt like a blast from our past!

  12. I was just thinking today that I need to inspect my closet for what I may need for Fall – if we ever actually get one. As I type, it is 93 and I am astounded that its actually not 100 degrees with 75% humidity like it was at the end of last summer.
