Hey there! What have you been wearing lately? Did you don all the red, white, and blue? It’s been hot around here, so the name of the game is simply staying cool!

This is normally the time I start thinking about shopping the sales for back to school clothes for myself. Shoes were always my biggest issue. How could I be both stylish and comfortable to teach on my feet for 8 hours? What do I want to wear when school starts? That usually meant dresses every day until the end of September. It’s freeing to not have to think about that anymore!

Let’s see just a few outfits from the last week…

I wore this last week to grab coffee and chat with a former student. She is early 40s now, with two kids. She was one of the most motivated Spanish students I have ever taught. I wanted to wear pants so my legs wouldn’t stick to the chair.

This is a consignment J.Crew blouse that is a bit too big and gives me bad memories of the hottest Cincinnati Reds baseball game last June. The pants are from Loft and they were supposed to be swim coverup pants I think? They are probably 8 years old. A woman was returning them from an online purchase and I was behind her in line to check out. I swooned when I saw the print and asked if I could try them on when it was my turn. They are knit and very comfortable. I wore my Crocs Miami sandals.

I wore this to the leathergoods shop belt bar appointment and I regretted the long sleeves. The building is old and it was hot. I have on my Old Navy blouse that I wore out this spring, my Aerie cut offs (new this spring), and the silver Birkenstocks my sister Molly gave to me. I liked the outfit, but it was just too hot.

For dinner out Friday night, I wore this consignment Old Navy dress and my new this spring gold espadrille wedges from Spain via TJ Maxx.

I ordered some Walmart pajamas from their Joyspun line! The tops could be a little bit bigger for me but the shorts fit perfectly. This is the problem with me and “sets”. I need a bigger size on top than on bottom. Since they are just pajamas I think they will be fine.

I ordered two new coverups and I hope they work.

I will provide links if I can recommend them after they arrive. I found both on Amazon.

I really need some linen pants! I have a couple of lightweight Umgee pants, but I haven’t worn them this summer. I need a light pants option for when I don’t want to wear shorts, a dress, or a skort.

Anyway, I’m just trudging along. I’m not excited about the rest of the hot and sticky July and August weather!

  1. Our weather is slightly cooler this week than last. I seemed to wear minimal clothes last week!! I like the pants as well and your new cover ups. Thanks for the link up :).

    1. I know it’s not technically hotter, but the humidity yesterday was 90% and today is 95%! We got a big downpour yesterday and lots of thunder. I guess that was why! I didn’t “get dressed” much either. Thank you!

  2. Oh my goodness, I would have snagged up those returned pants as well! What a fabulous pattern! Your new cover ups are really cute, too. I love the JoySpun pajama line at Walmart. I recently bought 4 new sets. They are super soft and they are sold as separates which is perfect because I am a L on the bottom and an XXL on the top. I can never buy sets either unless they are sold as separates. Thanks for the party. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

    1. They aren’t swim material, but a light knit, too! Thank you! Oh, these weren’t sold as separates unless I missed something! I am the same! I will have to seek those out. You too!

  3. I love all the outfits from your week! I think my favorite is that consignment striped dress. I love that so much! I also loved what you wore to Clayton and Crume…but I could see that it would have gotten hot. I was sweating profusely when we were there at one point. Ha! I love that with the silver burks. Cute coverups! I love them both and will be anxious to hear how you like them. Thanks for hosting us! Happy Tuesday!

    1. Thank you! It’s a bit tent-like, but I love it too. The fabric is cool so you don’t overheat. I guess that building has not circulation! You too!

  4. Those Loft pants are really nice! I love it when there’s a story behind my clothes items! Also makes it very hard to get rid of them… (hence the mess in my wardrobes :D).

And of course I must commend you on the crocs Miami! Thank you again for recommending them!

I’m intrigued by the cover-ups, exactly what I need! Look forward to links!

91° over here, as always. Strange, but it’s always the same temperature here :D.

  5. This is the first year I don’t have any back to school shopping to do now that my youngest has left education. How wonderful to meet up with one of your former students! Those pants from Loft are fab, I do like the print!

  6. I found the cutest lavender gauze dress from Old Navy while thrifting last week (it was really not that week), and it prompted me to pull out dresses to wear this week. I am doing sleeveless and halter top ones. They are so nice for hot days. Your printed pants are so cute: love them!

  7. I know what you mean about figuring out school clothes and shoes at this time of year. I’ve already seen ads for back to school! You were smart to buy good shoes. I didn’t, which led to two foot surgeries. Love those silver Birks as well as all the outfits. How lucky you were standing behind that woman. One of my new docent friends has a pool so it’s time to find a cover up. Looking forward to your review.

  8. I feel like Old Navy usually has good pants options?

I am wearing the same 3 things every day and can’t be bothered to branch out in July.
I did get two pairs of sandals at Famous Footwear last week on clearance. $35 for one and $16 for the other. That’s as far as I got on school shopping. Apparently we’re “supposed to” wear closed-toe (in *this* heat?!) so I got one of each so I can look like I’m complying some of the time.

Anyway, I suppose I’ll be on the hunt for some Mary Janes!

    1. I was tempted by their linen pants but they’re just so dang long. I didn’t want to deal with hemming.
      That makes life easy!
      Good deals!
Oh wow – I actually felt more professional with closed toe. The kids started talking about not wanting to see teachers’ dogs, also.
Mary Janes are a great option. The open weave ones might be cooler for summer.

  9. Your shoe game is strong! I love your outfit for meeting up with your former student. I love my joy spun Walmart pjs but I know exactly what you mean. I ordered two pairs this summer and I had to size up for top but they’ve been ok.
