What have you been wearing lately? Thank you for joining Marsha and I as we talk fashion today!
Red is still the color! Have you seen red having a moment in fashion? I found this blog post fun to read! I have had so much fun with my red Free People espadrille Mary Janes and my new red Archie’s flip flops…and my red nails last week!
I have been drawn to red, white, and blue this summer. I wonder if it has anything to do with our country’s 250th birthday? Nautical theme is in! Sardines are in! Lol – I bet the sardines never thought they would be “trending”.
Also, here is a podcast worth listening to. I currently have probably five different sizes of clothing in my closet. I have learned to order two different sizes online if I can easily return the one that doesn’t fit to an in-person retailer. Also, it is your choice how you want your clothing to fit. That’s empowering. Jamie talks about how clothing that fits you flatters you so much better and reminds us that too tight clothing is not good. I don’t always get the sizing right. I didn’t find everything in the podcast helpful, but I found enough of it helpful that I want to share with you.
The podcast is called The Savvy Cast and I don’t always relate to the topics but I felt this one was good enough to share. I am linking her website which also has some great recipes.

Basically, don’t feel any sort of way about your clothing tag. Sizing is all over the place. Cut it out if it steals your joy.
I wore this one day last week. I wore it with my New Balances to walk the dog then I took those off and put flip flops on to go out and run an errand. Later that evening I switched to jeans for a mah jong night I went to. This is a new this season Target blouse that I love but that isn’t the most flattering on me. The shorts are old linen Old Navy. The flip flops are Archie’s.
Since it hasn’t been hot and it’s been so pleasant I have been putting on a slightly nicer shorts outfit and using that to walk the dog and run errands.

I wore this to go to a couple of places all in the same shopping center. I was in J.Crew Factory in this photo. I didn’t buy anything but they had a ton of gauze. I was wearing my Old Navy white gauze shirt, my old Old Navy green and white skort (athletic material). I also went in Trader Joe’s.

I tried this as a set at home. These are my Old Navy gauze drawstring shorts. I feel a bit like an orderly.

Different shoes can change things up.

That day I settled on this. I kept the shorts on but paired them with an old consignment button up and my lace up sandals. I walked EO in my New Balances and then switched shoes again.

I went back to Old Navy and bought this orange skort:

and this fun summer printed skort:

I’m not sure why I am standing that way – at attention!
Close up:

Wait – is that a sardine?
Fun athletic shorts – do you see how they have little wings on the sides?

and a short-sleeved chambray blouse that I thought would be practical to have. This was Jenn and I influencing and enabling each other. She shopped the day before at Old Navy. I can’t wait to see her post today. I’m telling you that Old Navy is pretty good this season!
Finally, this is what I wore to my niece’s graduation party. I repeated the dress I got for my day at the track – Churchill Downs Derby week.

I would say I am doing a good job of wearing and rotating through all of my shorts and short sleeved tops. I really don’t have that many but it seems to be enough for my lifestyle. I haven’t worn many dresses yet. I haven’t worn many printed pants or skirts yet, either. I am going to challenge myself to wear more of those things.
I also did another clean out of my closet. I was pretty aggressive about things I wouldn’t currently buy and what I wasn’t excited to wear.
I did a mini-Target impulse shop. I listened to a couple of influencers. I am going to decide what to keep. Even when I do get influenced I am getting better about knowing what to keep and what to return. I will show you those next week.

I think I’ve worn shorts twice so far but I’m getting a lot of use out of my linen pants, gauze pants, and capri pants!

Your outfits are all so cute! I’m glad you’re finding good things at Old Navy. It’s a store where I never shop but I went in there with Jacob so he could find some business casual type clothes. He likes Lululemons khaki like pants but couldn’t justify the cost especially when he found some incredibly well priced pants at Old Navy that fit him well. He marveled that he could buy three pairs of pants for the price of one at LL!

I really am! I found a work shirt for Mason, too. Tom has Lulu pants and I think lots of brands now make the athletic stretchy work pants like them. Good on Jacob! I think the quality of ON has improved.

I consider everything here “my style“. I feel like I have run through all of my summer pants and skirts already this summer… I must have purged hard last year. If I don’t remember the items, though, I guess I wasn’t wearing and love them, right? I have always, always been a “red“ girl. Back in the ‘90s when I graduated, buying a suit for graduation was a big deal for interviews. I remember going with my mother and saying that I wanted a red suit. She did not understand what I was thinking…and I told her, “everyone shows up at these job fairs in blue and black and I want people to remember me and say, and ‘remember that girl in the red suit?’”. I don’t know if it worked or not (I did get a job that year!) and I wish I had a picture of me in it. I was so proud of that suit 🙂
Thanks for the podcast link – always looking for something new to listen to.

I love your red suit idea! I still remember my first working girl wardrobe and my power girl suit that got me 2 jobs! Lol. I only had 3 professional jobs – teacher at 3 different schools in my 31 year career. I had a navy suit and wore a silk blouse with silver stars on it. I bet I don’t have a photo.
Ok, have you gone to Old Navy? Am I going to need to do a shop session with you like I did with Jenn? I honestly think the prices are better online. You should put together a shopping cart and order and then return in store.
Let me know what you think of the podcast.

The whole sardines thing really cracks me up – who would have ever thought they’d be so popular?? I like your all white outfit with the different shoes – so versatile! I still need to pop into an ON, maybe this weekend.
Looks like you have a good handle on your summer style!

Me too! I feel like some fashion person is laughing their butt off. They said let’s see who falls for this!
I’m a gauzy girl!
I need to stop buying now. I just don’t go enough places to justify much more, you know?

We’re going to a wedding in July and are encouraged to wear red white and blue (light on the white). I have a blue and white dress but need to add a pop of red somewhere, maybe a clutch or shoes. I want to order some Archies…that’s on my to-do list. Have a great day!

Oh, that is fun! I like your idea about the clutch or the shoes. I wonder if you could find a raffia clutch with red trim. That would be darling!
The Archie’s kind of hurt me because they are really to support an arch, I guess. They are great for foot issues I have heard.

I’ve lost weight this past year and have been buying new clothes. But the sizing, good grief!!! It is so way off the charts! It is impossible to know which size to get without trial and error. I have it down now but was a pain at first. I love your navy skirt w/ the white piping. That whole outfit is perfect for summer.

Good for you! So fun! I know – it’s all over the place. You just have to painstakingly try stuff on. I really like that green/white skirt, too. Thank you!

Oops, green skirt! Not navy.

I love the podcast advice and I may have ordered that same orange skort over the weekend!

Yes! I agree about the advice. I am so happy! That will look so cute on you. Should all 3 of us wear it in Lou and look like a cult?
I couldn’t comment on your blog today bc my Google wouldn’t’ let me sign in. I love the sconces and everything, really. That is a fab price on the rug!

I really love that green athletic skort! I love all of your things, actually. I think the white outfit makes you look so tan! The shoes definitely matter and can change the look of the whole outfit. I have a white dress that I love to wear in the summer; it has black buttons, so I’ve always worn black strappy sandals. Last year I switched over to nude block heels when I wore the dress, and it elevated the whole look! I remember getting more compliments on it than ever before that day. Thanks for the shout out and for hosting this fun link up!

Thank you! It would be better if my stomach was about 1/2 inch less paunchy, but we can’t always have what we want.
I love that shoes can do that!
I am such a big believer in a nude shoe.
Thank you for your work to join in! It was awesome!

Love the green and white skort and the athletic shorts are cute too. Where did you get them ?

Old Navy! Sorry if that was unclear. The skort is from last year or the year before. The shorts were this year in store.
