Welcome to Fashion Files! Thank you to Marsha for our cute new graphic!

I hope you will join us!

I took this photo because it made me happy to see my gold kitten heels. These shoes make me feel fabulous. Do you have a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes that does that for you? I also really like the print of my dress. I have hardly worn this but got it at a little boutique in my hometown that is now out of business, sadly.

I wore this to dinner last Friday night.

I wore this new dress to the track on Tuesday. It’s by Umgee which is a boutique brand. I have an assignment for you – see what locally owned boutiques you have near you and check them out.

I usually find dresses and blouses for $50-$60 but I feel like I keep them for a long time and the price per wear goes down. I tell myself I have to audibly gasp at the print to buy it.

For some reason, my gold Birkenstocks feel more comfortable this season. I enjoyed wearing them with jeans one day last week.

Let’s talk about my new horse cardigan. I found this two Sundays ago at a boutique called Pink Tag. I have been wanting a horse sweater for a long time (weird statement). I had one from Loft but it was a crew neck, and I didn’t love the fit or fabric so that got donated.

This horse cardigan was the last one on the rack and it was also around $60. The weather turned cold after my Tuesday day at the track and I am not kidding when I say I wore it part of every day from Wednesday-Saturday (Derby week). I also wore it on Monday (the day after I bought it). I think it will also look cute in the fall.

One day I wore it with this consignment button up underneath, one day I wore it with a black tank, one day I wore it with a white tee, and I wore it with denim shorts and jeans. Lol.

These guys did a pretty good job keeping me comfortable at the track on Tuesday. I love them! I got mine at DSW.

I have enjoyed wearing my new Aerie gold flip flops, too. Here are my new Aerie denim cut offs and my Old Navy floral blouse worn together.

I don’t show you many casual outfits but here is my walking and errand outfit over the weekend. I wore my last season Aerie Maine lobsta sweatshirt and my favorite black leggings.

A couple of things that caught my eye…

These Chico’s jeans:

These Sam Eddleman sandals:

My nails are a hot mess. Just getting gel twice and going through the removal process has damaged the surface.

Apparently bare nails are in!

Have you heard to curl the front pieces of your hair in front of your face? I wasn’t sure if I understood this, but this told me I did. First of all, if you aren’t clipping up the top half of your hair to curl the under, that really helps. Then, move the side front part of your hair to the middle of your face to do your curl.

I think the clipping up of the top half of your hair and how much hair you curl at at time matters more than your barrel size. I use a 1 inch and take a fairly small amount of hair each time. My hair does better if I wash it the night before than day of.

I have decided to try to sell two pairs of my sneakers.

These New Balance 530s are just too big. They are my regular size but they run 1/2 size big apparently. I feel like I have trouble getting shoe and clothing sizes right sometimes!

These are also my normal size but they run narrow.

I put them on Facebook Marketplace where I have had good luck selling shoes.

I am a big fan of self tanner and spray tans, but…

I have been reading outside when I can for an hour or two a day. I have developed a bit of natural color using sunscreen.

Bad photo and I do have shorts on:

This gives me a little confidence to start wearing those dresses and shorts. But, oh, what I wouldn’t give for the unblemished legs of the youth.

I bought this a long time ago and I have put it on a few times. It does something! It’s messy and I have to keep a wet washcloth for my hands and Eddie Otis tries to lick it off.

It’s Hawaiian so it must be good!

Anyway, I bring this up to say I guess I’m natural this year.

I placed an Old Navy order using my stupid Supercash. I say “stupid” because I hate the game involving Kohl’s Cash and Supercash. It makes you feel obligated and I can never get it right.

I ordered the navy blouse I have but in coral:

a striped tank, a navy elevated t-shirt, and a black tank swimsuit.

I returned it all!

I love the swimsuit but it was too big so I just have to re-order. Here it is if anyone wants a classic tank suit. I was quite thick and good quality and is on sale for under $24.

The coral just didn’t look as nice as the navy.

I’m proud of myself for returning and not trying to make it work.

Well, this has been a long and chatty Fashion Files.

What have you been wearing and what have you bought?

  1. Your dresses with the bright bold prints are just so good. I’m like you, if a print makes me gasp out loud, then I have to buy it! I am dying over your horse sweater, too! It is so cute and will carry you through all the seasons. I wear my favorites over and over again, too. If the clothing brings me joy, I want to wear it all the time! This was a fun read. Thanks for hosting the party!

  2. Bare nails are in? YAH! I’m finally in style, lol!! I’m sorry your nails were damaged from acrylic. I feel like your nails painted with polish look really good. All of your outfits are cute. I really like the coral blouse but then again, I’m a sucker for coral. I am going to wear a coral blouse to school today. Good luck selling your shoes! Have a great day!

    1. Yes! You are! I just couldn’t believe that two applications of gel could do that.
      Thank you!
I love coral. This blouse felt too flimsy and cheap in the coral color and the navy hides the flimsiness if that makes sense.
No takers on my shoes yet. I may have priced them too high.

  3. I wish my unblemished legs of youth would make a reappearance! Everyday I see a new spot, ugh.

Those Sam Edelman shoes are so cute – love the heel!

Good for you for returning what you didn’t love. I ignore Kohl’s cash and Old Navy Super Cash, I realized what a trap that whole thing was and how I ended up with a closet full of clothes I didn’t love. We are getting wiser!

    1. Right?
Aren’t they? I feel like they are too similar to a couple pairs I already have, though.
      I know! It’s a trap! Don’t fall for it!

  4. So many cute outfits! I love the horse sweater and I bet you will wear it a lot (already have!). Don’t you love that?! I miss my silver Birks, I need a new pair of metallic Birks…they really jazz up an outfit but are great for casual ones too. I agree about supercash and Kohl’s cash!

    1. Thank you! Yes, I agree! I love when a piece turns out to be a good buy because I have made lots of mistakes.
I love silver, too. I tend to wear more gold jewelry so I went with gold. Maybe you could find them gently used?

    1. Even I am laughing at the number of gold shoes now in my closet but I love them and wear them all!
      Thank you!
The cardigan is soft and well made. I’m happy!
The day I went is the day more my speed. The fascinators were amazing this year!
      You’re so welcome!

  5. Love those 2 dresses and your cute horse sweater! Those jeans look darling and I am styling the natural nail look recently too. I recently heard that trick about styling and cutting bangs too that you pull them toward your face to style. Fun post!

Aren’t the jeans cute? I really don’t need more but I love the detail.
I will go back to the Londontown nail illuminator maybe?
Oh, that’s interesting! I can’t cut my own, though!

  6. I love all the outfits that you shared this week! Those gold kitten heels are everything, but so are the gold flip flops. I finally linked up, and I went with your suggestion of talking about dresses. None of mine are new except for one, but I talked about tips I use to buy dresses. People ask me where I shop pretty often, which is the best compliment ever! Thanks for hosting and asking me to play along. XOXO

    1. I just commented on yours! Thank you! I really love the heels and the flip flops and I have to chuckle when I look at my gold shoe collection.
I love the post you did! You are a really good shopper and know your body and your tastes. Your dresses are awesome. They work for work and for play. Lol. I think dresses can last for many seasons and I have some that are quite old. I should do a dress post, too!
I love visiting the boutiques to see if they have dresses on sale because I know how good those brands can be.

    1. Thank you! It was good to have the opportunity to wear the long sleeve one. I have a couple of others I need to wear before it gets too hot.
It was the perfect day for me. Not too hot, not too peopley – ha!

  7. I discovered the Palmer petite shorts at Loft an bought white, denim, black, brown and yellow. They look nice, good length and no pulling them down from between your legs every time you get up or walk. I also bought several tanks from them and Target. Then I hit Marshalls for some new summer tops (I have had lots of luck there lately). DSW for Barfoot neutral wedge sandal which are really comfortable. I love your blog and your my first read every morning.

  8. That first dress you wore is gorgeous! I love the colors! We have had cool days here too. It’s supposed to be 90 today but then we get another front. So shorts today but not sure about tomorrow! I love the Palmer shorts from Loft so I ordered a neutral beige pair since they were having a good sale and I had birthday cash.

  9. I love that first dress…florals are my jam! Your gold ribbon-y sandals are beautiful, but I fear I could never walk in them. I hear you about Old Navy’s new cash thing. I really, really dislike it. I don’t understand it at all. I wonder if the Gap brand is having problems because they’ve also changed things with their credit card. I think wanting a horse cardigan, given where you live, is perfectly natural. OK, I will try to make it into a boutique…the one and only one in Brownsburg. I think all the other stores are chains!
