Welcome! Today is the first week of the new Tuesday Fashion Files.

You can show one outfit you’ve worn or multiple outfits you’ve worn. You can talk about clothing, shoes, accessories, undergarments, swimwear, brands you stand by, thrifting, online shopping, in person shopping – whatever you want to talk about that involves fashion.

The credit goes to Marsha who will be hosting with me. She had the idea and approached Kellyann and Jill, former hosts.

The why: We all have to get dressed and we all should feel good about it! We don’t all have the same style but sharing what we’ve worn might inspire others. Even if you don’t consider yourself fashionable, you should consider linking up. Taking outfit pictures daily (or on the days I put an outfit on) has helped me to become a better dresser and shopper!

I would love to see some of my blogger friends link up who don’t normally talk fashion. Come on!

A little about me…

I just retired from my gig as a high school Spanish teacher. I had to get dressed five days a week and wear comfortable shoes. Now, I have more freedom in my footwear but still always want to be comfortable. I also still want to get dressed but I am finding that I wear more jeans outfits than ever before.

I love shoes! I recently ordered these Spanish espadrille wedges via TJ Maxx.com. Espadrilles are a classic and the wedge is very comfortable. I have not worn these out yet as they feel too summery for right now.

One idea I have is switching out my jeans for a denim skirt.

I purchased two last year from Walmart of all places!

Here is one:

I swear it’s longer than it looks in this photo. It does not look inappropriate on me!

And, this one:

I love the two tone of this one.

I can also wear my cut offs. I feel that the distressed looks a little too distressed at this point. I am in the market for a pair of non-distressed.

I love the look of cut offs with a blouse! It’s kind of unexpected. Here is me last year:

So, take any jeans outfit you’ve worn this spring and switch the jeans out for a skirt or shorts.

Saturday night I went out to dinner and wore this:

Husband is trying to get in the shot, I guess. I wore one of my four Old Navy blouses, Halara jeans with side stripe, and my gold kitten heels.

Sunday I wore another pair of Halaras, my beige Adidas Sambas, a white tee, and my Target crocheted sweater. I wore a small silk scarf, too.

I am going to Churchill Downs on the Tuesday of Derby week and had dress options, but wanted to look at my boutiques that carry Umgee, one of my favorite boutique brands.

I found this dress:

Here are my old options that I could wear, too…

I love this Walmart Scoop dress:

this Walmart Free Assembly dress (I went through a Walmart dress phase and they had some good ones!):

this boutique dress that I also have in hot pink in case the temps are a bit cooler:

The worst thing you can do at the track is to wear uncomfortable shoes. If it rains, ladies wear rainboots with their dresses, too.

Here is what I have ordered:

I have a love of gold or metallic shoes!

What have you been wearing lately? What are you in the market for this spring?

  1. Yesterday our high was in the 40’s so I was wearing pants, a long sleeve shirt, sweater, and sneakers. And I’ll probably wear something similar today.

  2. Thanks for the link up! I joined- not sure if I’ll have content every week but I enjoyed thinking about and writing about outfits that I’ve worn recently. I like how much you like fashion! Your dresses are colorful and pretty as are your shoes :).

    1. Thank you! It’s a cool feeling material so I think it will work if it’s a little hot. I ordered a yellow fascinator to wear with it.
Thank you and thank you for generously handing it over.

  3. Great outfits this last week! I like the gold metallic slides that you ordered for Derby, and I love that new dress! Is it Umgee? I need to do some shopping soon, but I keep putting it off for some reason. I guess I haven’t been in the mood? I will get around to it, one of these days. What a fun new to you link up!

    1. Thank you! I am hoping the slides aren’t too flat. Yes, the new dress is Umgee! They had your pink and green on clearance.
You have been too busy to shop which is great, too. I have been pretty good if I do say so myself!

  4. I love the white crocheted sweater. I ended up buying another of the scalloped edge cardigans you recommended in white. I had it in black originally but I love the weight and fit. I need sandals and the dreaded swim suit but haven’t had time to shop lately. Have a great day!

    1. Thank you! It’s Target. I had my eye on the baby blue one that is similar, but never got it. Isn’t that scalloped one nice for the price? I think it will come in handy for over AC’ed places in summer, too.
Swimsuit shopping is rough. Sandals also have to be perfect.
      You too!

  5. First time commenter! You always look so put together and have so many great recommendations (even beyond clothes). I wonder if there is a way to “link” some of your things. Probably not the boutique finds but maybe Target, Amazon, etc. I have tried searching but can’t always find. I did find the short sleeve ON blouse you mentioned within the last couple weeks and love it so much. I have no problem giving commission as long as it feels genuine and I love that you give honest reviews. All this to say, thanks for sharing some great finds!

    1. Thank you so much! I do link! I don’t get commission or anything because I am not that fancy. I don’t have any links today because I’ve talked about and linked those items in the past and nothing was new today except the Umgee dress and the sandals. Umgee is only sold in boutiques but you can sometimes find the brand online if the boutique is also online. Is there anything you want me to give you the link for in today’s post?
That’s honestly why I don’t have any brand deals or partnerships. I would be afraid I can’t be honest.
Thanks for commenting and let me know if there is a link I can give you individually today!

  6. Hi Amy!
im so glad your doing this. If only I would get dressed everyday. Since my retirement it’s been hair in a bun leggings and a sweatshirt! I think your retirement clothes are so much fun! As always love reading you everyday!

    1. Thank you! Would you do an experiment for me?
Get dressed one morning (in hard clothes!) and see how it makes you feel?
Let me know! Have you read any Fiona Ferris books?
I sense that you want to do this so that’s why I am pushing you!
      Your bossy blog friend!

      1. OK! I will do that!
Why this author? I can’t wait to find this out! I need to read more than magazines. I did read the Let them theory, it made me think how I do things, that’s for sure. Oh and I bought the cashmere deodorant. I’m using it now, I find it hard to roll on? Is this normal?

      2. Fiona has inspired me and I already did several of her habits. They are quick reads and I would just pick the one that you can relate to the most now. I am re-reading 100
Ways to Live a European Inspired Lifestyle.
I always bought the solid cashmere and never had trouble rolling it up.
If you bought at Ulta you can return if it’s a dud.

  7. I love the new dress – wear that one with the gold shoes! I wear denim shorts, capris or jeans with everything. I’ll try to put a post together sometime soon. You know fashion isn’t my thing, but I’ll try!

    1. Thank you! That’s the plan. I feel like denim gets too hot when summer really ramps up. But, isn’t denim an easy switch out for the seasons? You find great blouses! And Jeans! And dresses!

  8. First, those are gorgeous sandals! I hope you wear them soon. If I had your legs, I’d be wearing those shorter skirts, too! I love the blouse with the shorts (and it’s hilarious Tom is behind you. Love the floral dress you bought. So, are there activities before the Derby? I have always wanted to go just to see the fashion and wear an amazing hat! I don’t have any gold shoes…do I need gold shoes?

    1. Thank you! I think I will soon. I am considering wearing them with my long white flowy skirt. You’re too kind; they are all freckled up.
      Tom was primping!
Yes – there are special days from Tuesday to Saturday of horse racing.

  10. Looking forward to this link up! I always enjoy seeing what you wore! I am loving your choices of dresses for the Derby especially that new one. Our little town just opened a new boutique so I felt I had to help a new business and bought a skirt! They have a wide range in price from mid-range to pricey, and really cute stuff.
