This week just flew by for me! We still have snow and ice on the ground, but the temps got higher into the 30s and it helped everything. We got another snow on Tuesday afternoon, by the way. We had enough to keep the kids at home on Wednesday. I see 50s in the forecast for next week and I am giddy! I might wear shorts and lay in my recliner outside.

Thank you for linking up with Currently this week! Go back and read those if you have time on your hands this weekend. Also, I posted my January books, my February goals, and a silk scarf challenge for you!

I’d like to share the most random assortment of things today like I normally do!

Monday I was back to tutoring my Spanish student at Starbuck’s. I didn’t want to spend a ton or consume a ton of calories so I ordered the cutest little…

Solo espresso macchiato, single shot of espresso, extra hot with one sugar and a dash of cinnamon. I heard about this on IG. I get there early and order, so I am ready for my student. It’s going well. He wants to chat about his new car, his summer job, and things like that. I feel like we have connected. It’s hard because I don’t love the methodology his teacher uses but I am trying to keep the old boca shut. I brought him colorful index cards from Dollar Tree for him to make his flashcards. Old school, baby. It works.

Kristin said this is a good (her favorite?) brand of ice cream and I had never heard of it. Kroger carried it! It is delish! It’s very creamy but the calories really aren’t bad.

Ok, you guys… it has taken me a long time to actually listen to Jenn, but if you mix this and the Loreal Lumi glotion in your hand and put it on your face, it makes a nice light “foundation”. You also are getting a 30 spf.

The Lumi:

I am super picky about texture and things like that when it comes to makeup. This is a winning combination if you don’t want a heavy foundation.

You might know I have a lip product problem. I have a new favorite. If you are more of a lip balm person, this formula is so nice. It smells nice and it glides right on and isn’t too thick. I ordered mine but it’s at Sephora. It’s French. I ordered Mon Cheri. I want to order another color!

In the kitchen this week, I am trying to use up snow storm food and I ordered a small Kroger order on Monday to supplement. I had avocado toast for lunch – I use Dave’s killer bread. Yum! The key to mine is putting Everything But the Bagel seasoning atop your avocado.

I had to use up the last of the Chex Mix ingredients:

I made taco salad for dinner one night:

I made cod, zucchini, and potatoes mediterranean style one night – with baked feta.

In the reading department, I finished:

Loved it! It was deeper than the cover looks. This was such a fun premise of adult artists working at a arts summer camp!

Started this – it’s also deeper than it looks. It is set in Aruba – or part of it is set in Aruba – where I had my honeymoon!

I had a happy hour with a new-ish friend. It’s Tom’s boss’ wife (she and the boss are younger than Tom and I) and we are always friendly, but we have never done anything just us before. We ordered the goat cheese with strawberry jam – so good!

It was lovely! When I saw her at Tom’s work party she was saying since she works from home she never gets out and as a new empty nester she would like to. I said I’m up for happy hour and she said that would be great and to text her. I did and we made a plan. I often have to do the asking is what I’m saying. You can tell who enjoys your company and who doesn’t. If you are struggling with this, I want to encourage you to try. It’s really hard to make new friends as an adult.

Also, I sold my Hunter boots that I wasn’t wearing to a woman about my age on Facebook Marketplace. I met up with her in the Kroger parking lot this week and we chatted and she said we should get a coffee sometime. How funny is that?

Here is another story – I ran into a lady who lives in my neighborhood, was in my book club that went for about 3 years and then fizzled out, and who shares our same hair stylist. I said hello and we shared pleasantries and I said to let me know if she wanted to get coffee and she replied, “No thanks, I’m good”. Haha! This has been maybe 10 years ago now. So, there will be rejection! I think this is such a funny story because one could simply say, “Ok” and then always be busy. I kind of appreciate her honesty. You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and they won’t be yours.

I did something new this week! I got my brows waxed and tinted. I needed a wax because they were just not shaped well and I was tired of trying to pluck. When I saw the place also offered tinting I asked if I could get a consult about it. The wax was $32 and the wax with tint was $54. I decided to do it and I’m so happy! I will not have to use as much brow product. It only took about 10 minutes and it should last for a couple of months and then I will see if I want/need it again. If you are local, I went to Clique Beauty. I saw Tricia who was wonderful. I used to get my brows waxed but hadn’t done it in years. Hair and pedicures are the only other beauty treatments I get – I used to get dip and gel nails, though. I have never had a facial(and it shows!).

Very bad photo:

Have you seen everyone making an AI photo? I don’t know how they did it, but I do have the ChatGPT app so I used that.

I asked it to make me a photo with things I love – cooking, reading, prosecco, and chocolate labs. Look at my scarf! I am trying to wear all of my scarves over the next week for my challenge! I am mad that AI didn’t polish my nails. How much does that look like Eddie Otis? I didn’t even give a photo of him. I only gave a headshot of myself.

Tell me a favorite of yours from the week!

Don’t forget that tonight is the Olympics opening ceremony. I am making pasta much like in my AI photo! I will probably make a sports bar type meal for Sunday’s Superbowl, but we are just staying at home. Or I could make Cuban food for Bad Bunny or as I called him in class “Conejo Malo”. Cuban slider sandwiches isn’t a bad idea, now, is it?

Cheers to the weekend,

Amy

  1. Wow that AI photo is so good!

That’s funny that the woman who said no thanks when you asked her about getting coffee. Do you think she thought you were asking her for coffee right then? That just seems so wild that she would say that. Your point is right though, we are not always going to click with everyone and we do have to do the asking!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I couldn’t believe it!
I think she is an odd person. She quit the book club when someone picked 50 Shades of Gray and maybe she was still mad? My hair stylist says she is odd. She has been doing her hair for 25 years. Ha! She probably saved me an awkward coffee date.

  2. Yeah, I agree, maybe she thought you were asking about right then? I wouldn’t have wanted to read Fifty Shades of Gray for a book club either (and I surely wouldn’t have wanted to hear a bunch of women discuss it… I have a friend who liked all those books and she told me enough about the content to know that the book and any discussion of it wouldn’t have been my cuppa) but I’d like to think I just would have not shown up for that discussion. Anyway, her reaction to you does make for a funny story and for sure not everyone is for everyone!! The AI photo is neat! Your week sounds nice! We’re supposed to warm up next week as well. Just got to get through this winter weather advisory for today- bleh! Have a great weekend!

    1. Maybe but I don’t think so. 50 Shades was silly and we had fun mildy discussing it and laughing. We had a fun dinner out of plays on words from the book. I think she was the type to hold a grudge or be stubborn and not come back after those books.
The AI photo was a surprise – pretty good!
I can’t wait to get this stuff melted!
      You too!

  3. I always leave your posts inspired to DO SOMETHING!! Good for you, getting out with new people. I, too, find I’m “always” the asker, organizer, and host. Sometimes it irritates me – why can’t someone else do this? – but then again, they keep coming back so it can’t be like they are just “tolerating my company” or anything, right? Anyhow, how funny about the neighbor – her loss for sure!

All your food recommendations look good – I hadn’t even thought of the Super Bowl yet. We’ll watch, I’m sure, but will be tired from a long weekend in Lexington so it won’t be a big deal for us.

I have been using some AI images for work and the jury is out. . .I’m not sure what I think. Good job with your picture but yes, I agree, it should have put color on your nails! Happy Weekend.

    1. Awww, thank you! I have learned that some people are just the born organizers. I have a friend who NEVER does the planning and it’s super irritating.
You could do the Hawaiian bun ham and swiss sliders with the topping? I can’t wait to hear what you think about your tours.
Yeah, I’m not a big AI user. I just don’t think of it!

    1. Thank you! Brows really help a face. Thank you! We all get so busy – sometimes I have to plan something for 3 weeks out, but at least the friend and I have it on the calendar. And, don’t even try to get two people together with you – impossible!

  4. Your story made me laugh and reminded me of a similar story. I was on a women’s panel and made a connection with a lady who was the presenter before me. We had several rehearsals/meetings leading up to the actual event. We chatted at each meeting and realized we were in the same industry, had kids the same age, going thru the college process, lived in the same area and connected the dots on similar friend/acquaintance’s etc. After the event, I said let’s meet for coffee sometime and she said she was booked until November and that might even be tough to find time with the start of the holiday season (this was in Jan). Messaged received!

    1. Oh man! That is really bad! She could have simply said “That would be great” but then I guess you would have wasted time reaching out. People are just weird sometimes. I have always had room for more friends but I literally do know people who say things like “I don’t even have time for the friends I already have”. I just have never been that way. Keep trying! Don’t let her steal your ability to be the one to ask.

  6. I loved hearing your stories today! The “no thanks, I’m good” one made me chuckle. Wow! That’s introverting at its finest, but good for her for speaking up? I’m not sure how I would have taken that. I love the AI photo of you! I did one through Chap GPT as well and mine made me laugh. Chris will be here later today, so we’re doing date night at home and ordering a pizza for the opening ceremony! I’m excited. I’m cooking a lot this weekend in preparation for the week ahead; you’d be so proud! On Sunday I’m going to Mom’s and Bill’s for the super bowl. Cheers to a great weekend!

  7. Ohh! How exciting that it is set to warm up with you next week. It sounds like you and your Spanish student are getting on well. That ice cream sounds so good and all the food you’ve been eating looks delicious! That is great you and Tom’s boss’ wife went out for happy hour. I agree it is hard to make new friends as an adult, especially when our kids are older! That is a great AI photo of you! I love that it included all of the things it did.

  8. I cannot imagine saying no to a cup of coffee and a chat with someone – I want to be less isolated! Its not like you were asking her to go into business with you! ha! I am trying hard to make light conversation with people and look them in the eyes. I have had some success with it. (: Still on the hunt for a silk scarf…

  9. I cannot believe that lady replied with no, I am good! Glad though you have found some coffee dates: I really need to get out of my rut. I used to tutor Spanish and yes to note cards: they are practical for review games and such. A favorite this week is that I went on a run twice on my own and my boys giving me hugs. Need to take advantage of their love of hugs (they are 12 and 8).

  10. Both those books look really cute! Our library was closed for a week becuase they were having issues with the heat but when I saw they were opened yesterday I dropped everything and went over. I ended up coming home with 8 books! Now I might have bitten off more than I can chew but I honestly can’t wait to dig into any and all of them!

  11. Yes! It’s hard making friends as you get older. Most of my friends I made when my kids were in school or former coworkers. I have one friend that I have known for a long time. She has sone health issues that started several years ago. I have helped her out when she had to move to a different home. I often feel like I do all the work in the relationship. She also never tells me if she’s going out of town or in a trip. Anyway I quit texting her and I will let her text me if she wants to maintain the friendship. Anyway, it’s a tough situation.
