It’s Friday and it’s time to link up with Andrea and Erika to share some favorites. I cannot believe we are at the end of September! I thought it would slow down now that I am retired from a school job, but it really seemed to fly for me, too.

I finished this cute little book this week; I did pretty much pick it for the London setting. This makes me mad, though – the main character was described as having dirty blonde hair and the cover shows a brunette. Come on! Does lack of attention to detail upset you in a book?

I do recommend it for a cute little read, though. It was a break from WW2 for me!

What says fall more than fall magazines? I subscribed to some magazines as a treat to myself – Southern Living, Magnolia, and Garden and Gun (don’t freak out; it’s mostly just a southern design magazine).

Magazines are skimpy and mostly ads these days but I still enjoy them.

I got to pick up some requested books from the library this week.

Finally!

Have you read this? The jury is still out for me and I am only about halfway through the book.

And:

Can I say again how much I love the library? If I don’t feel a book I just return it and there is no guilt at all. I like to have options and I would rather have too many books than not enough. When do I read? It is usually in the afternoons now. I will often read while I eat lunch and then keep reading for a couple of hours. I don’t turn on the tv at all during the day most days.

Eddie Otis is a big baby about having his nails trimmed. We have found a place near our house that has an angel that manages to do his nails without it being too big of an ordeal. Tom is upset that he can’t do it himself but it just doesn’t go well.

Eddie Otis was so good about getting in the car and did so well overall that I wanted to associate it with a treat. He got a Starbuck’s pup cup and I got a London Fog tea latte.

A Trader Joe’s find. So cute!

These are amazing! Kristin recommended them and I put them in my Kroger order. To combat the dog hair, I use an old fashioned broom and dustpan, these, and the vacuum. We have a Dyson Animal and a Dyson stick.

I am getting ready to change my royal blue toe color – don’t worry. I did a navy shiny press on mani:

I wanted to get a couple of Halloween or Fall graphic tees so I went to Old Navy where I have had great luck with t-shirts lately. I was picturing something to wear with a cardigan over it over the next month.

Ok, so soft and such good quality, Old Navy!

I brought this v-neck pumpkin home:

And, I brought this witching hour cocktail one home. I will wear this one with my new black scalloped cardigan.

I thought I would share this:

And, this is a good follow if you like seasonal books:

I wrote my fall list out so I could see it on my memo board. This was a suggestion from my former student.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but I looked up the London Fog latte recipe and I made a pretty darn good one myself at home this week! It’s Earl Grey tea, vanilla syrup, and foamy skim milk.

We had an authentic German restaurant near our house and sadly they retired in 2022. I was part of their Facebook group and they announced their cookbook was ready to go. I ordered it and it arrived this week. It’s got tons of photos so I think it’s more of a scrapbook/cookbook. It tells their stories from Germany to the US and it is really well done!

I am going to attempt Tom’s favorite dish:

And, that’s a wrap on my favorites this week! How about you?

Amy

  1. Those lil’ candy bars from TJ’s look good. I am a sucker for cute and sweet and those fit the bill! Has Tom been to Hofbrauhaus in Cincinnati? It’s huge but quite popular. The town of Oxford (it’s in Ohio but close to IN- not sure how much further north than Madison and where you’re used to be in IN) has an authentic German restaurant. Can’t think of the name but it’s for sure the only German restaurant in Oxford! That’s cool about the cookbook! I need to find my Halloween shirts. I wear them so seldom that I forget about them. Your new ones are cute. Have a great weekend!

    1. They are the perfect little bite after a meal. The serving size is 5! Lol! We have been there. I didn’t know about Oxford. Yes, it’s fun to have a graphic tee in my opinion!

  2. I hate when the cover art doesn’t match the book details; I mean I get that the artist isn’t reading the book as it’s usually still in the writing stages but you’d think the author would be like “hey this is great but could you make her have blonde hair?” Those are my favorite swiffer pads too as they really just work so great.

  3. Great idea writing your bucket list and posting it where you can see it! I can’t wait to hear what you make from that cookbook – I bet it will be so good.

Cute graphic tees – I love the witching hour one!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you! Young people are so smart! Me too – I am going to have to make pork schnitzel for the base and that will be messy and labor intensive.
Me too – so soft. I wore the pumpkin yesterday. It feels a bit early for the Halloween one.
      You too!

      1. We had pork schnitzel that we got at Costco last week and my family liked it. I don’t know how authentic it is, but it was very quick and easy!

  4. I listened to the Let Them podcast, and I found it kind of repetitive. I don’t know if it was just me, but I didn’t find it earth-shattering as I hoped it would be. I love your fall bucket list, and the teensy chocolate bars have made me crave chocolate. Luckily, I have a whole Cadbury hazelnut bar waiting for me. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Yes – I am wondering if I will think that, too. And, it’s not that easy not to be hurt in your relationships. Thank you – love a list that keeps me intentional. Sorry – I am like that, too. The power of suggestion. Yummy! Your weekend has already started – woohoo!

  5. You have so many great books to read! I don’t go to the library enough since I read a lot on my kindle, but it’s fun to go and look around. I love London Fog, but haven’t gotten one in a while. Those little candy bars are cute…& perfect size….i need to look for them next time I go.
Swiffer could sponsor us…Trav uses those at least three times a week for Homer hair. He doesn’t seem like he sheds that much but then we swiffer and we see otherwise. Have a great weekend.

    1. Yeah – pros and cons to Kindle versus actual books. I like to look at Target to know what books to request. If I had to go to the library without my requests it would be rough.
London Fogs are so good – especially on a rainy day.
They really are! They are the perfect little bite after a meal.
Yes – the heavy duty are really amazing. I was shocked!

  6. I have read “The Let Them Theory” and I did really like it. I felt it helped me to realize that I carry so many burdens and remembering to let go of some of the expectations and stress in response to other people…I feel like I need to review regularly though if that makes sense

    1. That is exactly my problem. I try to manage and control the people and situations. I am a “fixer”. I need to stay in my lane and “let them”. It really helps with teens and young adult children.

  7. I love those navy nails! I’m glad you found your graphic tees; ON is the best with those. I love how much you love your library! I’m glad you’re reading so much; I’m a little jealous. I still can’t read books! I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I can read, but not the kind I’ve always loved. I did order a Fiona Ferris book and am able to read that really well, but that’s about it for me right now. How cool that the owners of the restaurant put out a cookbook? I know Tom will appreciate your efforts in making his favorite meal. Happy Friday, friend!

    1. Thank you! Yes – so happy! I have been a big graphic tee person lately. I was always so jealous when I saw people reading while I was working full time.
As far as novels – my advice would be to set aside at least an hour and really get into a book. It’s got to be the right book, though – one that has you hooked. Maybe it’s more than that, though. I do believe you will be able to again. Maybe your mind still isn’t settled enough.
      Happy Friday!

  8. I love all the Fall Fun lists circulating. I posted one this week and included are my plans to try a Starbucks PSL FOR THE FIRST TIME. And, also, to watch When Harry Met Sally (which would also be for the first time). It’s pretty exciting that some of the most common and iconic fall fun things will be “firsts” for me.

And I have eaten my own body weight in pumpkin bread this week. Eeks. But it’s just so darn good!

    1. Me too! No way – start with a tall. I do tall non fat milk with light whip cream when I do get one.
That is so exciting! Embrace and enjoy!
Yum! It really is such a nice flavor.

  9. I am not a big reader but things like that do upset me when there is a lack of attention to detail! You did really well with all the books from the library!
Aww! It sounds like Eddie Otis had a great trip out even if he did have to get his nails cut!
Good luck with your bucket list! You have some fantastic things planned.

  10. It’s cooler here this morning in South Texas! Woo hoo! I need to try those Trader Joe’s candy bars. Have you tried Barebells protein bars? They are amazing and 20 grams of protein. Trader Joe’s sells individual flavors. Have a great weekend!

  11. happy Friday! I got about halfway through the “let them “book as well. And then I just stopped, but I have been trying to apply it in many areas of my life this fall. I will say that my husband gets tired of me saying… Let them… And then he tries to use it back at me when something bothers me! Lol and he hasn’t even read the book so I told him you don’t get to use it that way! eight days until my daughter‘s wedding… Yes, I am counting down! A lot of excitement out here in California! Have a great weekend!!

  12. Great book selection from the library! Everytime I go to any of the several libraries around me, I am jealous of the beautiful displays your library does! No one does that here. I have trimmed our dogs’ nails before, but it is an ordeal and sometimes I hit the quick…ouch. So now I have the vet tech do them for a small fee. Albie’s are really thick and he is a grouch about them, so that works best. Hope you have a good weekend.

  13. I keep seeing that Let Them book as a suggestion on my Libby app. I’m not one for self-help books so I don’t know if I’d even read it. I think there’s a lengthy hold on it anyway. When I read, I generally want to be entertained. Love your ghostly attire…I’m on the lookout, too. I like the one with the wine on it, but I don’t drink. It seems like ON is cutting back on graphic tees unless they have their logo on them. I don’t like those as much. Maybe I’ll check out Loft. Jack hates having anyone even touch his feet. The groomer always does the best she can. His nails are black so I wouldn’t even think about trying as I’d probably cut them off too short.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  14. Cute shirts and good books by Mel Robbins and Jennie Allen. I like both of them. I am so behind in tv, because I find myself listening to music more in the house. I don’t take much time to read anymore. Enjoy your Saturday friend!

  15. Glad you like the swiffers! I just re-bought a big box. I’m not ashamed to say I usually use two a day. Needs must!

The hair discrepancy on the book cover would bother me too. I just picked up a WWII book so we’ll see…

I’m going to in search of a dark jewel tone nail polish this weekend I think. There is no comparison to fall colors.

Scott maimed the dog’s toe a few weeks ago while cutting nails. It looked like a crime scene.

    1. I could totally use 2 a day. So much dog hair! I usually do a bit of broom, too, though, and I don’t sweep every single day.
How hard is it to get a tiny detail?
Fall colors are just so good. I need a pedicure and I am debating what to get.
Oh man. It’s really hard to do at home without the set up, too.
