It’s the first day of school in my district today. I will try to avoid school traffic as best as I can! We have all kinds of road construction going on near me and I am afraid it’s going to be ugly out there.

I am happy to link up with Kellyann and Jill for Fashion Files. Let’s do this!

As a first year retired teacher, I can’t help but reflect on what I normally would be doing with my wardrobe right now…

I would have scoured the stores/online sites for the perfect cute/stylish/comfortable teachers shoes and I would have all my dresses lined up and ready for duty along with my summery printed pants to mix in. I spent a lot of time and money getting my “teacher wardrobe” ready.

I must admit that some of my clothes feel too teachery now. I am trying to find my new style. I want to get dressed each day in an actual outfit!

Saturday night I went out to dinner and I wanted to be cool and comfortable after my overheating blow dryer episode. See exhibit below:

I never blow dry my hair because I wash at night but I had been lazy the night before and found myself needing to wash my hair in the afternoon! Then, I blew dry my hair and got soooo hot. I wore my necklace fan to counteract.

I love this dress although it’s probably not the most flattering. I should have worn a heel but I felt weird from the blow dryer episode. It has pockets! The purse looks real stupid. I guess I can’t make the strap longer. Oh well. You win some and you lose some.

I loved this outfit. I have on my new fruit shirt with my orange gauzy shorts. Do I look fruity? Sorry I am always in my Hari Mari flip flops. I love them.

This needed a front tuck. I love the off white blouse with detail and tried it on with my light Halaras and my new Adidas.

Pool ‘fit:

She’s judging me in her Lilly Pulitzer coverup. Whatever.

My hair is not cooperating. I think I need a new conditioner.

I put this outfit on that I have worn before – gauzy blue Umgee pants and light, light blue consignment button up with my new Adidas.

New Adidas:

New wedding guest shoes. Still waiting for them to arrive – I chose the bottom pattern to go with a solid hot pink dress:

And, I got a wild hair and ordered two more pairs of shoes that I am waiting on and might return if they don’t work out:

I just loved the tan/black combo. I love that they are kinda retro.

In my defense, I have been looking for red espadrilles all summer. I found these on Zappos for less than the price shown here.

So, not a lot of outfits this week, but I sure did make up for it in shoes!

What have you been wearing?

  1. I’ve been wearing lots of sneakers this week too since I got a couple of blisters on my feet over the weekend and I’m trying to let my poor feet heal/rest. I only have 2 pairs of sneakers though so it’s been tricky!

      1. Yes, I’ve been wearing ankle/no show socks to help. All the blisters are on the pads of my feet so the more cushioning the better.

  2. Your fruity shirt is so cute! Laughing over the mannequin judging you – ha!!

I can relate to your wardrobe predicament. When I left in person school 7 years ago and started working remotely I was in the same position. My clothes were too teachery and it took me quite some time to let those things go and replace them with how I really wanted to dress. It’s fun to be able to wear what you want, when you want with no concern about hall duty, lunch duty, concrete floors, or finicky a/c!

    1. Thank you! She looks very judgy, right?
I am excited to let go of the teacher wardrobe. I have already donated anything that said my school or that I kept for spirit days – lol. Now I need to get rid of the dresses that don’t fit quite right for this lifestyle. I want to wear more jeans I think – put put together jeans outfits.

  3. I can’t wait to see the shoes you’re waiting on. Time for me to start thinking about my teacher wardrobe. I will say I wear tons of dresses during the year and not so much in the summer, so I’m ready to feel a bit more put together. Hadley was thinking about her back to school outfit and joked that it’s like we have two first days with this block schedule…I guess I feel the same way now.

  4. I hope you wear the wedding shoes and post pics. I love the fruit top. It takes a minute to adjust your wardrobe from teacher clothes to other but eventually you get there. Have a great day!

  5. I love all the outfits this week! I like the black slides you had on with the pool outfit. This week I had to wear the same school shirt two days in a row, so one day it was with black pants, and the next day I did the jeans that we have that are cropped. I wore a shorts romper yesterday, and I’m doing dresses for the next two days. I’d like to be wearing a pool outfit and may reach out to someone about swimming this weekend!

    1. Thank you! They were too slippery at a pool! Molly gave them to me because she said her big toe looked too big in them – lol. Great outfits for your week, I think. Girl, make the pool happen! Neighbors pool?

  6. I really hate how much I love Free People. Those red shoes are CUTE.

I have probably blow-dried my hair twice this summer. I never use heat between May-September because it just dries wavy and looks okay if I put a product in. I’m not loving my shampoo/conditioner combo either.

I do think that gold purse looks VERY cute.

I don’t know: being on the side of “not wearing real clothes every day”is kind of great lol.

    1. I wore the red espadrille Mary Janes for like 6 hours yesterday when they arrived. I love them! I just have to figure out what to wear with them.
I am thinking about trying Redken Soft? I don’t like to spend a ton of money on shampoo.
I think it just looks too short and weirdly under my chest. I got it for free so I love it!
It is but I feel more productive when I get dressed. I will find a rhythm and figure it out soon I hope!

    1. Probably so! I wore the fruit shirt again today with my new Free People espadrille Mary Janes! I did decide to keep them!
They are painful but I think I’m gonna just do it!
