It’s seriously so hard to believe that the month of July is over! My teacher friends in Kentucky and Indiana are literally done with their summer. I alternate between being giddy that I am not and being nostalgic that I am not. And, I am having major sympathy pains for my them.

I am happy to link up with Holly and Sarah to share my weekend!

I started it off on Friday at 11 am at the Myriad pool with my friend Beth. She had not been in a pool yet this summer. It is a hotel with a swim club (pool), pool bar, and restaurant. It also has a coffee shop next door. You can buy a day pass and it’s a really nice vibe. They have excellent drinks and food. Unfortunately, the aperol spritz slushie machine wasn’t working. We got there right as it opened and had our pick of the seats:

We split a really good grilled chicken caesar wrap:

We stayed from 11 until almost 4! Beth told me it was so relaxing and just what she needed. She has had a lot going on and in addition to that, her daughter is getting married in two weeks.

One thing I will mention is that we ran into a male teacher from my school that used to teach with Beth at her school, so we both knew him. It was nice to talk to him but he stayed with us the entire day and I felt that I lost some time talking to Beth about things that I would only talk to Beth about. It was so hot that we just stood in the pool/sat in the pool and talked all day.

Since I had been in the sun all day I was not cooking dinner. This looks bad but we got Mexican takeout – I got a burrito bowl and Tom got birria tacos and elote and Mason was home and got a burrito. We split the queso.

We just had a really chill Friday night which is what Tom likes. He is watching the Tour de France when he can so he enjoyed that. Tom’s office didn’t have AC this week so I could tell he was more worn out than usual. He could’ve worked from home per the company but he has a bunch of monitors and a standing desk at work (and not at home) and he just really can’t work with Eddie Otis anyway!

I slept in until 7 on Saturday! I cleaned while Tom had EO out of the house and I actually didn’t mind it and was happy with my progress.

Then, I had to take myself to the grocery store – no pick up this time because I hadn’t planned ahead- and it was actually fine. I only did the Kroger delivery for one month this summer. I just didn’t want to pay another subscription/membership. I think it’s great for busy families. Work smarter, not harder. I am auditing all of our streaming services and memberships right now. We don’t have many, but I still want to consider what we need.

The pumpkin spice is out! Oh my gosh – I need to tell you that I got a new frother and it is amazing! It even does a cold foam. You can simply put your milk, creamer, half and half – whatever – and it works its magic. Here it is if you are trying to cut the coffee shop habit. I am still keeping my handheld one, but this is really good. And, no, I did not buy the pumpkin spice yet. Yet.

80 lb. lap dog. I can’t help but snap a photo because it’s just so cute.

I forgot to go to the library while I was out for the grocery so I made myself leave the house again in the afternoon. All of my summer requests are coming in! Woohoo! It happens about this time every year and then I have to go back to school and have less reading time. I am hoping to turn off the gosh darn tv and read more. I have really been watching too much tv.

I love to check out cookbooks. I own many but I really don’t need more. This one is great and I like the way she organized it, but I just wouldn’t make more than maybe 10 of the recipes.

It was so, so, so hot on Saturday. We had a heat advisory and it was so humid. I asked Tom if he minded just eating leftovers for dinner because our fridge was so full and we had so many things that needed to be eaten. He was totally fine with that and we watched Happy Gilmore 2. I fell asleep about halfway through but I actually think it was pretty well done. There were so many famous golfers in it. And, this is mind blowing – Happy Gilmore is 30 years old!

Tom bought this fan for his office last week and we will also use it on the boat. He set it up for me on the porch and I was able to read yesterday morning for a bit.

I finished this! It got good in the last 75 pages! Lol.

This will be my second favorite of the Emily Henry books, I think. It moves slowly – too slowly. I did like the premise of the book, though. I just wish it moved a little faster.

My favorite is Beach Read and the others I can’t even remember because they were just ok to me.

I know that might be controversial because she is a widely popular author. I also don’t love her titles. They don’t really fit the books.

And, now I am on to this:

I tried to make Tom cinnamon rolls yesterday but I walked out of the room and Eddie Otis ate the entire icing packet. The plastic and all. Who wants the cinnamon roll without the icing? I could have made homemade but I didn’t care enough to go to the trouble of getting out butter, milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar.

After our walk the other day I took off my sneakers and short socks and set them right next to me and before I knew it, someone was slinking up to me and stole a sock and then ate it in 5 seconds flat. Tom asked me if I wanted it back 24 hours later when he “found” it. This dog. I have no words.

Tom and I had an errand hang and went to Costco and then to look for new tennis shoes for him and to do some returns for me.

I returned the Philosophy Amazing Grace to Ulta. I decided I didn’t like it. It’s not me.

I also returned the Chico’s black and white tanks. They are a hot material and not loose and skimming like I was wanting.

I mentioned I started Hunting Wives on Netflix. It is quite adult. I don’t like the characters and I am not going to finish it. Anyone else try it? I also didn’t like the Sex and the City And Just Like That or White Lotus – any of the seasons. So, tv taste is quite personal.

I do love The Gilded Age, Gilmore Girls (watching again on occasion), Love on the Spectrum (wish there were more I haven’t seen), and many Bravo shows. Also, I am watching Sullivan’s Crossing on Netflix and it’s pretty good.

Cousin Neal sent us videos he made that included his drone footage. Here is the one hour long float that we did from his smaller lake to Lake Michigan:

My sister Molly and I floating:

Sorry for the bad photos I stole from the videos!

How was your weekend? Are you over the heat? Are you still summering it up?

  1. That day at the pool sounds heavenly! I wished we had something like that here. We have another heat wave/heat advisory starting today so I have plans to do lots of reading inside. I haven’t watched Hunting Wives but then again I didn’t like Ransom Canyon and I’ve never watched Real Housewives or any “reality” TV like that. I’ve also never gotten into Sex in the City so I didn’t bother with Just Like That.

  2. I want to watch Sullivan’s Crossing, but haven’t taken the time lately to watch much tv, except Bachelor in Paradise, ha! Keep us posted on your streaming service verdict! This weekend will be a little cooler here. 2 weeks of the very hot temps is long enough for me. The mexican food looks good, as always. I hope your Monday is off to a good start and enjoy not having to go back to work!

  3. Sounds like a nice and chill summer weekend. Totally get your mixed feelings about not returning to school. It will probably feel the same in the fall and until you go through this first year right?

  4. You will have to get together with Beth again since you didn’t get one on one time with her! It sounds like the other teacher wanted someone to talk to :). Speaking of time, you will have more of it to read!! I have not been reading nearly as much this summer due to the kids being home. There’s a season for everything and I’d rather have my kids than books; when the season with the kids is over, I’ll go back to books because I’ll have more time. We were Happy GIlmore 2 falling asleep twins because I did that as well when we watched it! Have a great Monday!

    1. You are so right, but she will be pretty busy until the end of August. I had to excuse myself to go to the restroom when they started talking politics because I just didn’t want that vibe. I gave myself a pep talk and got back into the pool and said, “Beth, you never told me the rest of that story” and he still didn’t take a hint.
So, true that there is a season for everything. I was really good about no tv on in the daytime and I need to get back to that. I have been watching during lunch some days.
      You too!

  5. Your pool day sounds perfect, with the exception of the mutual guy friend hanging out all day. That would kinda bug me too. Hopefully you can get some more time away with her, sounds like she could use it with so much going on in her life!

Teachers are going back in our area at the end of the week. I know they are not looking forward to it and I don’t blame them. I think you will really enjoy being home once the school year starts – you’ll feel retired!

  6. What a great weekend! I also would have been frustrated with the male teacher hanging out with you and Beth all day. Maybe a redo can be worked out at some point? The TV/streaming service struggle is real; I’m down to just Netflix and Prime, but I’ll split YouTube TV with my boys when football starts back. I’m currently watching The Summer I Turned Pretty (season 3) on Prime; it’s so good!

    Enjoy your Monday, my friend!

  7. Sorry your pool plans were hijacked. He must have needed the talk time too so maybe you were a help to him? Hopefully you can find a time to get together with your friend post wedding. Mothers of the bride always want and need to debrief after the big day. I’m reading a good bit currently and we have a beach trip coming up so I’m looking forward to reading with my toes in the sand. Hopefully all my toes and I’m not stuck in this boot. It’s a real possibility which I force myself to consider lol. We have a house with a pool so I know I can hang there and that will be nice too. Have a great week!

  8. I love your EO stories! He is such a funny dog 😅 He is so much like our previous dog. Abby would eat socks and then we would find them in the yard later 😂 She ate so many things among them pie crusts that my husband had just made, green beans that were on the counter in a bowl and 2 Day of the Dead sugar skulls my daughter made with a friend. Hope you have a good week!

  9. You were kind to include the guy teacher even though it was time you needed with your friend. It’s been so dang hot and humid here that I only go out to water the flowers, walk the dog, and cuss the bunnies! They are eating my favorite flowers! And, Jack will eat anything that doesn’t run away from him. During Covid, he swallowed a mask whole! Fun times pulling it out! My reading has really slacked off. Not sure why. Have a wonderful week!

  10. I cannot believe EO weighs 80 pounds! Mav is 41 and his lapdog tendencies are almost too much.

I started The Hunting Wives and it was meh. I never read the book. Now, I think The White Lotus is more mystery so I wouldn’t put it into that category. But THW definitely wasn’t my style. We’ve been watching Untamed and it’s good.

  11. I am right there with you! It feels like we were just celebrating July 4th and now we are almost done with July! How?? That pool day looks and sounds fabulous…minus the gentle intruder! lol. I’ve seen so many people say they watched Happy Gilmore 2 this weekend. We did also, but I read the entire time. I didn’t think Beach Read really fit the book as a title.

  12. I really feel for everyone going back to school already, we have another month off. hehehe
The pool sounds amazing, an aperol spritz slushie machine! Wow! What a shame it wasn’t working.
Ahh! I think it’s too soon for pumpkin spice anything, it is a September thing for me.
Eek! Naughty Eddie Otis eating the icing from the cinnamon rolls and the sock.

  13. The pool day sounds divine, despite the extra person hanging out. Your foamer looks similar to mine and I love it. I felt the same about Hunting Wives and White Lotus too. It sounds like it has been hot there. Our days are up and down, but overall this summer has felt mild here in Texas. Usually we have lots of 100+ days, and we haven’t so far this year. Occasionally, I do grocery pick up, but most of the time I enjoy actually going in and browsing around. Hope you have a good Monday.

  14. August is so different as a retired teacher – I used to dread it and now I look forward to the slower, quieter pace around me! I do feel so for my teacher friends, though, and tr to find ways to let them know I’m thinking of them! EO is such a silly dog! You should write a book filled with memories of all his shenanigans!

  15. Your pool day looks fab! I know what you mean though when an extra shows up randomly. That happened to me with a friend recently and we were like “dang, this was our catch up, talking time.” Haha
EO needs to get it together lol
Homer still likes to take our used napkins or paper towels when we aren’t looking.

  16. We cannot leave anything edible out either. I think I did share the Lindt bunny debacle with you before. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Bread snatched from the sink, sandwiches grabbed out of rucksacks, snack sausages with the plastic wrapper still on… not a chance 😆.
