It’s Thursday and time to link up with Kellyann and Jill for Fashion Files.

What have you been wearing lately? It’s been rainy and gray here for many days but it’s also turned muggy. Where’s the nice June weather? It’s not here!

I kind of decided that if I had somewhere to go in the evening I would wear my light Halaras, one of my heeled sandals, and a blouse. So, last week I had two outings and this week I have had one.

I have on my Dr. Scholl’s buckle sandals (really glad I bought these from Amazon for $30 something. I think they were last year’s model and that is why they were a good deal) with my TJ Maxx tropical blouse and my consignment straw clutch. I was going to an early dinner with a friend and I went early to look in a couple stores at the shopping center where the restaurant was located. A teenage girl told me she loved my outfit! I have missed my teenage comments!

The next night I had my Mah Jongg lesson and I did the same thing on the bottom but wore my new boutique side walk sale blouse.

I never would have worn jeans in the summer in the past but the weight of these jeans works!

I had a friend over for lunch and wore my orange gauzy shorts (I have turquoise, orange, and pink) with my new this season fisherman chic graphic tee from Old Navy.

I kind of regretted not looking cuter because my friend Victoria looked so cute in her medium wash Halaras (she was influenced by me to buy them!), Birkenstocks, and a white gauzy blouse so when I went out later that day I tried my darker Halaras (influenced by her!) with a cream blouse and my new Kork-Ease sandals.

I have been doing some double earring combos. Your ears are definitely part of your fashion! I love these starburst gold earrings and then I added a gold bar to the second piercing. Here is the starburst earring on Amazon.

Here are my new sandals:

Storytime!

So, my mom had just purchased boots at the only shoe store in my hometown’s downtown and she still had the receipt in the box and hadn’t worn them when she passed away at the end of January. Her best friend was quite concerned that we try to return them and told us multiple times. She had been with my mom when she purchased them, they were expensive, and she didn’t think my mom would ever wear them. My mom insisted that we (her three daughters) were demanding that she buy winter boots because of the winter we were having and we were worried about her wearing her black flats – that’s all my mom ever wore. We were so worried each winter that she would slip on ice.

I returned them successfully in February and got a gift card and my sisters told me to use it because I had done the work(?) so these sandals are from my mom. My sisters thought they were “very me” and I have already worn them so that is a good sign. They are also very comfortable. I feel like they can work into fall, as well. Thanks, mom!

Now let’s talk about my Aerie order. I love their quality. Aerie runs big I have found.

I ordered three items and I can easily return them to my outdoor mall that is quite close to my house. I want you to guess if I am keeping it all, returning it all, keeping some, returning some – you get my drift. You can also give your opinion as long as you’re nice about it. Acceptable: “I don’t think it’s the most flattering you can do.” Not acceptable: “What the beep are you thinking? You are not their demographic and you look like a beepin’ fool, yo.”

Item One:

I ordered these jeans in a short length. I will never fully tuck a top in so you won’t see the cute drawstring detail. They fit pretty well in the waist with some room to spare but from the side the pockets gaped a bit. The legs are wide but don’t have much flare at the bottom.

Item Two:

This Maine lobster sweatshirt is so cute. It’s thick and has kind of an a-line bottom with nice slits. I felt it was a little big. I ordered normal size. I’ve never been to Maine.

Item Three:

This blue sweatshirt is the reason for the order and it was recommended by Andrea. I liked some of the other colors, but I really liked this blue.

Better view of the detail:

So, what would you keep and what do you think I plan to keep?

Are you ready?

Are you sure?

Now?

How about now?

I am only keeping the blue. It’s what I went on the site for and it’s really the only thing that fits me correctly in my opinion. I feel like I can wear it at home and look less sloppy, I can wear it on the boat, (I can wear it with a goat – just kidding), and it will work into fall.

Sound off in the comments if you feel like it!

What have you been wearing? Buying? Wishing for?

  1. I wasn’t at all surprised at what you kept and returned! I really like your evening outfits and your new shoes.

  2. I love the white blouse in the pic with light jeans. I like the light jeans though they’re quite boxy looking. I love the Maine sweatshirt with shorts outfit. I think it looks good on you and also I’m biased because it’s something that I would wear. The blue top- since you asked for opinions, I’ll give mine. It’s not my favorite and I think it looks like something an older lady would wear? It’s not as “fun” as a lot of the clothes you wear but if you like it and feel comfortable in it, that is the most important thing :).

    1. I feel like that blouse is a bit small on me, but it’s J.Crew from a consignment store so score! I have had it for a few years.
Yes, I can do better than the boxy jeans.
I could try the Maine sweatshirt on in a size or two down. It’s great quality.
Oh, I see what you mean about the old lady-ish quality because I have also seen those. Sometimes they have zippers. I really don’t think this is like that and if it is it is in style for the younger set now. But, I am ok with your opinion on that! I think it might depend on how I style it.

  3. I love that you returned those boots of your moms and got some great sandals! Korkease is a great brand!

I think you made the right choice with the sweatshirt. I like the denim but you already have Halaras and the lobster sweatshirt is cute but I’d only keep it if you needed it for something in particular – we are learning to be more discerning!

Your Halaras still look so good!

    1. Thank you! My mom would like that they are “from her”! She was a major shopper!
I have had such a problem with understanding fit for myself. I am really working on it. I like to have a cute sweatshirt to throw on. It is such great material!

    1. She was a big shopper so I think of her when I get a good deal. These weren’t a good deal but she would be happy that she bought them for me! Thank you so much!

  4. I thought all 3 items were so cute! What is going on with clothing sizes?! I have lost weight recently and sizes are all over the place, no consistency at all. Somebody said some brands do vanity sizing (what?!) and others remained the same from years past. It’s insane!! Have a great day!

  5. These are all great looks for you this week! I love that look that inspired you that your friend had on at lunch at your house. I need to get some more Halaras since I can’t wear mine anymore. I guessed correctly on the Aerie order! And cute earrings…that is definitely part of being dressed and made up. I have large (thick) gold hoops that I wear everyday, and I wear tiny hoops in my second and third holes. I love how they all look together!

  6. Loved your going out looks, the white blouse fit was my favorite! I think all 3 Aerie items look a bit big on you, but do like the blue color of the sweatshirt you kept. Think the Maine sweatshirt is adorable.

  7. Your going out looks are just like my “uniform” for going out in the summer. I would have picked the blue sweatshirt too. Love the neckline. I heard on the big boo cast about some shorts from aerie that I want to check out.

  8. Those shoes are “so you” what a sweet gift form your Mom!

The lobster shirt is so cute, you may not want it but you influenced me to buy it for myself.

  9. I think those sandals are definitely you, and you will think of your mom every time you wear them. I think Halaras are just made for you! The jeans you got are just too rectangular on you…no shape while the Halaras have draping. Love that lobster sweatshirt. I figured that’s what you’d keep.

    1. Thank you! Thats what I thought about the jeans – were also so thick!
I returned lobster and jeans today but I’m still thinking about ordering lobster in smaller size.

  10. Love your shoes “from” your mom! I lost my mom November 2021 and, since then, I’ve bought myself a Christmas present “from my mom”. It’s silly but she was the one who wanted to get me something special and I would ask for something I might not ask anyone else for. So now I splurge (or don’t) and get something out of the norm in her memory.
