I mention in passing the shows that I watch but I don’t think I have ever done a dedicated post, so here goes. For what my opinion is worth, anyway!

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives – Hulu

Screenshot

I watched Season 1 with my jaw hanging open. They all look alike. They have had lots of cosmetic work done already. These are young, young women with three kids a piece already at age 24. There is nothing wrong with that if that is what you choose but they have no life experience. They pick and choose rules of their religion that they want to follow? I learned a lot and it was like an anthropological study for me. They brag about how many soft drinks they drink and how addicted they are but they don’t drink alcohol (well, some of them do but they aren’t supposed to) or caffeine. I don’t follow any of them on Tik Tok but all I can see is that they do dances on that platform which sometimes involve their babies. I have had some wonderful Mormon students in my career, by the way, if that has any relevance here. Tom said if I watch it I’m part of the problem and he is right.

I could only watch like one episode of season 2. I am not sure if the blue winter coats from season 1 or these outfits are worse. I do know it was a really funny Halloween costume this past year.

Thoughts?

Wear Whatever the F You Want – Prime

I was disappointed. I don’t like the format. I also wanted real people -like normal people. I only made it through three episodes and I didn’t like it. The styles were too extreme. One girl was Amish and then was a stripper for 20 years and then went back to wearing her Amish dress when she got married and now wants to dress like Dolly Parton. Where did they find these people.

I still really like Stacy and Clinton but I want to learn from them about what works and what doesn’t and even the most normal one (that I watched) still seemed like she was in costume.

I think I am done with the series but I might watch the rest this summer.

Race for the Crown – Netflix

I am about halfway finished. It was cool to see Lexington and Louisville highlighted and some of the wealth is crazy (the owner from Miami!) and I really am not sure how I feel about the horse racing industry. The last race I went to resulted in five horses dying that very day. I watched most of this limited series the day before the Derby so I was into the behind the scenes details and then saw some of them on Derby day on the tv!

I will probably finish it out but I got bored with it after the Derby.

Ransom Canyon – Netflix

Loved! I think I might start it again! Two words – Josh Duhamel has aged well. Minka Kelly is so pretty and elegant.

The Four Seasons – Netflix

I know a lot of people really liked it but I just thought it was sad. Maybe I will re-watch it this summer and see what I think. I will admit that right now I do a lot of falling asleep at pivotal moments so that could very well affect my opinion!

Below Deck- Bravo or Peacock

I love this show! It follows the lives of the employees of luxury yachts. This current season is located in The Seychelles and I didn’t know much about this area. I like seeing how they cater to the guests, what food the chef cooks, and I also like the drama that goes on with the yachties.

Summer House – Bravo or Peacock

I love this show! It follows the lives of young (ish) New Yorkers who rent a house in The Hamptons.

Love Hotel – Bravo or Peacock

This is ok. It follows four of the Real Housewives that you may know of as they try to date some guys/find love in Mexico.

The Lady’s Companion – Netflix

This is in Spanish and I started it with my kids. They never want to start it before 9:00 p.m. and you guessed it – I fall asleep. The one episode I was awake for was very cute. I will go back and get caught up. Maybe I will watch it in the morning! Ha!

What have you watched lately?

I like reality and drama. I wish Younger was new to me again! I love Gilmore Girls, New Girl, Hart of Dixie, and things like that. I am here for any recommendations. I do not like horror, true crime, or anything like that. I do like some detective shows that I watch with Tom.

  1. I haven’t watched any of these or even heard of all of them…. I only watch shows with Donnie and he tends to like (as do I) detective/drama type shows. We are on the last season of Bosch right now (don’t know what streaming service it’s on) about a cop in LA. The NBA play offs are on right now and that’s what Donnie has had on lately. I don’t mind watching some bball but sometimes when he’s watching that, it’s a good time for me to read or talk to someone on the phone.

  2. I watched some of the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and I just couldn’t get into it. They all seemed like clones of each other.
I have heard good things about Ransom Canyon and need to give it a watch.

  3. I loved Stacy & Clinton’s new show! I agree, the people were a little out there but I felt like they helped them bridge a gap between what their dream look was and reality. I also just really enjoyed seeing them together again.

The Mormon wives was crazy, I did watch season 1 but doubt I’ll watch season 2.

I used to watch all the Real Housewives shows and they don’t interest me anymore, I watch more true crime now.

  4. The Residence on Netflix is excellent. Quirky, funny-a who-done-it mystery. The writing is great! I haven’t heard of the others you’ve mentioned except those from Bravo but haven’t watched them.

  5. I’m STILL on episode one of both The Four Seasons and Ransom Canyon as I keep falling asleep and starting them over… I like them (I think!) but I really need to watch them during the day. I don’t really watch anything that’s supposedly real TV.

  6. I miss Below Deck! I need to figure out how to get just Bravo again. I never watched Summer House, but I had it on a list before the app disappeared. I always wish I liked the Housewives empire… you know the one about the wives in all the different locations. I LOVED Ransom Canyon, and yes to Josh and Minka…especially Josh. He’s a celebrity crush of mine and has been for ages. Thanks for letting me know about that!

  7. I haven’t seen any of these, but the Mormon one makes me wonder how they get away with that. We just finished seasons 2 and 3 of The White Lotus. Once I got into the second season, I really liked it. The third was the best, I think. I really liked The Residence, too. I hope they do another season.

  9. I’ve been catching up on The Handmaids Tale & need to finish up Matlock- I lagged on that after the winter break.

I started watching the Morman ladies awhile back & dropped off after like 5 episodes – but all the chatter about it – I’ll need to finish that out & catch back up

  10. I had not heard of the Mormon Wives show…just, wow! I want to watch Below Deck. My cousin was telling me all about it on our boat trip. We just watched Nonnas on Netflix last night. It was sweet and entertaining. I tried Ransom Canyon, but couldn’t get into it. I think I’m the only one! Sometimes I don’t click with shows that everyone else does. Great post – I’ll have my watching/listening post tomorrow.

  12. I’m currently watching Succession for the first time. I started when it was really popular but didn’t finish the first season by the time the show ended. It’s a show about a super rich/powerful man who is getting up in years and how his children are all vying to take over his company. None of the main characters are really likeable but the show has great writing and you never know what is going to happen. Avoid if you don’t like cursing.

I’m also watching The Last of Us. It’s so good and heartbreaking. It’s HBO’s post apocalyptic show with Pedro Pascal. I’m not in to zombies, which initially caused me to not want to watch but it sucked me in. Season one has some of my favorite TV episodes ever.

Pokerface is a quirky mystery show on Peacock that I like.

Paradise on HULU was SO GOOD as was Shogun, which won so many awards this pas year.

I’m also watching Housewives of Atlanta and re-watching Housewives of Miami, when I need something on in the background, in anticipation of the new season.

If you like real estate shows, Netflix’s two about New York real estate (I think one is Selling the City and the other is Owning Manhattan) are good with a bit of interesting drama!

  13. Have you watched Gossip Girl…it’s so good! It’s like a teenager show, but I enjoy it in my mid-40s! Haha!
