It’s Cinco de Mayo! How was your weekend? Ours was wet – again! It rained Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! I thought it was April showers bring May flowers? I am linking up with Sarah and Holly to share my weekend.
I almost always start my weekend recap on Thursday after school, but this time I really had a reason to do so. We were off on Friday; it’s a flex day that I worked over the summer. Too many teachers asked off for Oaks Day (the big race on the Friday before Derby) many years ago so they turned it into this. I spontaneously asked one of my Heathers to meet me for happy hour and it was so lovely! Look how cute she is!

I woke up Friday morning and watched the news coverage of the Oaks to see all the pretty pink that people wear for the breast cancer survivor’s parade. The color of the year was magenta! So much magenta!

I got dressed for spray tan, car wash, and hair day!

Before:

After:

Bonus of hair day is I get to talk to Laura, my stylist!
Mason wanted to go out so we went to Con Huevos when I was done:

And, then I went to the store by myself and I went in! Can you believe it?
I literally spent the rest of the day on the patio with Eddie Otis. He was pretty chill and I got to read and…

drink strawberry lemonade electrolytes…

Thanks, Marilyn, for the rec! These are soooo delicious! I love both flavors equally and the glacier reminds me of a Taco Bell Baja Blast. They are from Costco and I also had a Costco delivery that day so I didn’t have to go there.

I watched this on Netflix most of the day.

I received my darling twin niece and nephews’ prom photos. Mia even did her own hair! Apparently emerald green was the color of the year.
Mia and her boyfriend:

Miles and his gf:

We ordered pizza and it was just a lovely lazy day. It started raining and storming around dinnertime when Tom came home from work.
Saturday – guess what? – it was raining! I went outside anyway!

Then, Tom and I left for my hometown.

We had a meeting with the realtor, a few things to fix in the house, and stuff to load up in our car, and stuff to help Kate load up. Molly was coming on Sunday, so Saturday was just one sister and I.
And, I found a penny from my Dad immediately when I went in the house. Kate thinks Molly and I are leaving them for each other!

I got very emotional when I found the penny and over the fact that this would likely be the last time I see the house with stuff in it.
Kate and Molly had decided to take some large pieces, but I didn’t take anything big because I didn’t have space/like my current stuff/have a different style.
The empty spaces looked weird:

That view:

Everything went smoothly and Tom and I felt that we deserved a DQ Blizzard for the ride home. We are fans of Heath.

I got home in time to watch the Derby race on the patio in the rain – lol. I am a broken record!

Then, we ordered Cuban food for dinner and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I went to bed at 9:00 for the last few nights. It’s a physical and emotional tired that your gal is feeling. I’ve got the typical end of year teacher tired plus the emotional exhaustion, I reckon.
Sunday morning – you are never going to believe this – it was raining!

Eddie Otis was in rare form so I brought him outside and then he barked like a fool so I brought him inside and he stole shoes, the laundry basket for towels, and various things so that was fun.
Sunday morning’s agenda was clean, order groceries, do laundry, organize stuff I brought home from my mom’s house, and just all the catch up things. Tom took EO on a long walk so I could get things done.
We are having an estate sale company hold a sale at the end of May so that was the reason for the urgency of all of us going to the house this weekend. I have never been to an estate sale (I have been to lots of garage/yard sales) so I really didn’t know how it worked. We were given a recommendation by a trusted friend and this week I met him to ask some more questions and sign the contract. He had looked at the contents of the house a couple of weeks ago. We have contracted him to sell as much as he can and then take away everything that doesn’t sell at the end. I am grateful that there are people who have this calling.
We all have about 3 weeks of school left (my sisters are also teachers) and Molly has twins graduating! Kate and Molly finish around May 23rd and I finish with students May 23rd, but then have to work until June 2nd. So, to have this handled for us during the month of May is really a blessing.
Even though I was emotional Saturday, I woke up feeling better Sunday knowing that we have the important and sentimental things with us at our homes.
Boy – adulting is hard.
I can hardly believe we only have 15 school days with kids left!
How was your weekend?
Amy
Nice prom pics- I hope they all had fun! We had a lot of rain in the forecast- it did end up raining almost all of Saturday but we didn’t get much on Sunday. Glad you got a lot done at your mom’s house on Sunday. Just fifteen days with the kids- you got this! Have a great Monday!

Ugh, all the rain on Derby weekend, but I am glad we had a rain free weekend in Louisville! I love your Derby cup and Kentucky candle. I did watch most of the Netflix special on Friday. I’m glad you like the electrolytes and need to drink more myself. Thankful you and your sisters have been working so well with the estate and you are getting rest. May is crazy. Have a good day!

All that rain, and then so much mud for the actual race. Still an exciting race though! I’m glad you have handed over the estate sale to a professional. You’ll continue to be happy you made that decision. So glad you have your sisters to walk beside you through a hard season. You’re truly on the home stretch with work which is exciting. Have a nice week!

It was so nice that you had Friday off! What a weekend. I know it’s emotionally draining doing what you did at your mom’s house over the weekend; I remember going through the same feelings when Dad died. I’m so glad you had Tom with you! On a much lighter note, your hair looks fabulous! What a fun day of pampering yourself; the timing was perfect! Happy Monday, friend. xoxo

I can’t believe how much rain you have had!! We went to a Kentucky Derby Fiesta party on Saturday. We brought $11 and left with $35 😆 That was one muddy race! So glad you are using an estate sale company. They make life easier! My neighbor recently passed away. She used to work for an estate sale company and the same company was used for her house.

It must be raining everywhere! It rained all weekend and was so chilly I turned the furnace up! You have the best hair…no matter the color! I always love to see the kids in their prom outfits. There were three girls sitting at those high tables at Chipotle in their prom dresses! It is hard doing that last packing up. I’m glad you had Tom there as support. Hang in there for those last days. But, gosh, that’s a lot of teacher days after the kids are gone!

Wow, what a weekend! So nice to have Friday off and that you got to go back to your parent’s place. I think once the estate sale happens and the house sells, a big weight will be lifted. What a view from the deck! Gosh, I’d love to live in a place like that.
I need weekend to recover from my weekend but I did take today off so only 4 days of getting up early.
Your niece and nephew are so cute – I love their prom pictures!

We’re in for a whole week of rain and my husband was just saying “May shower bring June flowers” when I reminded him the saying is “April showers bring May flowers” he just shrugged and replied that it seemed like all the seasons were shifting a bit and we had to adjust the song. It felt like a pretty rainy weekend besides but I slept for 2 1/2 hours Saturday afternoon (when it was sunny!) so I guess I missed the nice weather.

I wondered how you all got oaks off although I know it’s been that way for a while. Well, now there’s all those other days too that I bet some teachers also miss —but maybe more spread out.
So sorry for the emotional weekend but glad that Tom went with you. You and your sisters are a great team too.
Love the pics of your niece and nephew. Stunning!
