It’s Wednesday and it’s a weird week around these parts! I am linking up with the creative Joyce for Wednesday Hodgepodge.

I am writing this on Tuesday from a coffee shop. I am on my second day of online learning and I promised myself I would come to a coffee shop if I had another opportunity. I didn’t leave my house yesterday! I was outside for about 3 hours so that was great, but I probably should have gotten out after work hours. It was finally sunny and about 57 degrees. Today it is sunny again but it’s winter again! Seriously! We had a freeze warning today and another one tomorrow. And, we’ve had a historic flood. Mother Nature, what did we do to make you so mad? Are you also going through menopause?

1. What’s a lesson you’ve learned from a mistake?

Gosh, how much time do you have? I sometimes have diarrhea of the mouth. I am consistently giving people more information than they need or want. Say less, Amy. I am working on it. I think I sometimes get too enthusiastic about things and need to tone it down.

2. Do you salt food while you’re cooking or let diners add their own?  What’s a food you think must be salted? Do you like pepper?

I do season food but try to go easy on salt. I hate over salted things. If I use Cajun I don’t put much salt because it has it in the mixture. I like pepper but try not to go overboard. I try not to go too crazy with any seasoning. Potatoes always seem to need more salt than I think. My favorite seasonings are Tony Cachere’s cajun and the Cavender’s Greek seasoning blend. I also love ranch powder and taco seasoning and I think you can add them to more than you think. Have you tried taco potatoes? Ranch potatoes? Do it! Do it!

3. What was the last gathering you attended and what did you do there?

A friend’s 50th birthday party. They had great food and we just stood around and chatted. It was the day after my mom’s funeral so I didn’t feel like myself, but I thought it was important to show up. We didn’t know anyone but everyone was so nice! People need to gather more and have more things at their home.

I saw something funny on Facebook talking about in the midwest every gathering was in your garage. I can remember many garage gatherings! Can you?

4. Your favorite shade of purple? What’s your favorite purple flower?

I would say lavender. My favorite flower is probably clematis because we had some on our fence. I don’t wear a lot of purple because I don’t think it’s one of my colors and ever since Barney came on the scene it’s been a fear that I will look like him.

5. Share a favorite spring travel memory.

My freshman year of college spring break was pretty crazy. 3 girls and I rented a car and drove to Clearwater, FL and stayed at Heather’s uncle’s condo. We met up with some fraternity guys from our college and got to know them better – as friends. We have some funny stories and photos.

With my kids and my little fam, we had an epic Florida road trip through the Everglades and Keys and to DC and several times to Great Wolf Lodge. We tried to go somewhere every year.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I had an extra long winter break this year due to snow and I’m having an extra long spring break this year due to flooding. Did I cause this because I needed more breaks?

Amy

  1. Our district didn’t close because of flooding but there was an industrial size (very loud) fan in a side room near the room I was subbing in yesterday and the students said that the room had flooded. But it must not have been that bad? The floor of the room was dry and heaven knows we were all in school! The sun was out yesterday (and maybe Monday, I think?) which was strange to see but goodness, it’s been cold. I agree about socializing in homes more. We want to host people more at the house now that we have a grill and space outside as well as inside. Have a great day!

  2. let’s talk space! We bought 1/2 beef. Our upright freezer is packed to the gills. I looked at my husband and said. I need space

    1. oh wow! I wonder if you will get tired of beef! Tom’s sister bought part of a cow and gave us 3 rolls and I was not impressed. They named him Steve so maybe that is why – lol.

  3. We definitely don’t have garage gatherings here.. then again so many homeowners don’t even have room in their garages to park their cars! I actually don’t like taco seasoning or ranch so I don’t use them in much of anything. But I think I tend to like more garlic, onion, and Italian seasonings so I use those a lot– especially basil (even in my eggs!).

  4. Such crazy weather! Glad you got to a coffee shop and hope you get back to school in person.

I laughed at your diarrhea of the mouth comment. I feel the same way about myself sometimes – I have so much to say! Does everyone need to hear it? Who knows but I am always second guessing myself – did I talk too much? Not enough? Ha!!

And Barney…my older son loved Barney! But purple will always be associated with him and I can’t shake it.

Totally agree, we need to do more getting together in homes, it is so important to show up!

  5. That tree is beautiful! I love a pretty blooming tree in the spring time. Spring was Dad’s favorite, because he always it reminded him of new life, which reminded him of new life in Jesus. Every time I look out and see pretty colors or green in the trees or grass, I think of Dad. I love your last statement- that maybe you caused the breaks because you needed more of them. My late friend Kari would have called that a “kiss from the King”. I love that thought, and I absolutely think God might have done that just for you!

Wherever you land today and whatever you do, I hope you have a great day!

    1. I have really enjoyed it this season! Yes, my dad too. I am losing memories of my dad I think. It makes me sad. I really feel like God gives us what we need when we need it but sometimes we are too blind to see.
Thank you so much – I am home again!
I ordered some lipsticks. Why is that my thing? lol

  6. Cracking up! I talk too much and overshare all the time- definitely guilty of that! Also loving how you need more breaks so that probably caused the crazy weather- ha!!

  7. I can relate to saying too much. I’m terrible if there are big gaps of silence too. I must fill them lol. A get together in someone’s home is my favorite. Hoping the waters are receding and things are drying out there. They finally got the fires near us contained which is a relief. Four teenagers started them and have been arrested. I know they didn’t purposely intend to burn down tens of thousands of acres, or at least I don’t think they meant it, but still the damage is tremendous and now their lives are really in a mess too. I had littles in the Barney era and that shade is forever tainted as a result. Have a great day!

  8. Oh gosh, your weather sounds crazy! It needs to settle down a bit!
hahaha! I suffer from verbal diarrhea, over explaining myself but I think being too enthusiastic about things is a good thing.
Your college spring break sounds like so much fun.

  9. Do I talk too much? My comments probably answered that one! That’s wild you caused another long break, but go you!! My favorite purple would be lilacs. I loved road trips because we always went with my mom! The woman was fearless! And, everyone in our neighborhood sits in their garages and gabs!

  10. Your comments about the weather made me laugh. I often think our Texas weather is moody and sometimes violent! Your spring break memories are so sweet!

  11. That clematis is so pretty. I saw pictures of one the bourbon distillery that has been flooded. Our low last night was in the 30’s, yet it is feeling like spring today I think. Hope you enjoy your day after such a different week back to school.
