It’s Wednesday and that means hodgepodge with Joyce!

No foolin’ that my skinny margarita is better than many restaurant margaritas. I plan to have this on hand as well as some other things for outdoor entertaining. Keep a couple of chilled white wines, some nuts, olives, and potato chips.

1. No foolin’! April is here. What’s one fun thing on your April calendar?

My April calendar is more packed than normal. I am so excited to host an old buddy from Spain and his wife and son. They are staying at my house for two nights so I have a lot of work to do. Then, the following weekend some girls are coming in town for a girls’ weekend and it will be a full one. My kid is in Macbeth -a community Shakespeare performance – both of those weekends so we have to figure out when to see him! Also, we are cleaning out my mom’s house and getting ready for an estate sale, along with talking to a realtor. So, yeah, April is going to be busy. But, I am really looking forward to my two fun weekends. My job is going to get in the way!

2. It’s often said, ‘A fool and his money are soon parted’…what’s the last thing you wasted money on?

Well, I have been spending money on sneakers. I bought Vejas in the fall for Spain and they turned out to be too narrow. I bought another style of Vejas in the spring and then went and got fitted and found out I need a wide. Vejas run narrow, so they are just not very comfortable. So, I guess I wasted money on sneakers. They aren’t cheap, either.

3.  April 2nd is National DIY day. Are you a do-it yourself kind of person or maybe you’re married to one? If so, what’s the last thing you DIY-ed. If you’re not a DIY-er what’s the most recent job you had to hire someone to complete?

We do most of our own stuff. We do our own taxes and many of our projects. This is Tom’s project this week. He is replacing all the boards in the deck.

4. Do you eat lamb? If so do you have a favorite dish that calls for lamb?

I do not. Eddie Otis loves lambie and lambie gigante so much.

5. Do you fit a stereotype in some way? Explain.

I don’t want to, but I probably look like the stereotypical middle aged high school teacher but then I start rapping or singing my Spanish songs and people are like – ok – she’s not normal.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I am using paper plates this week but there are still so many dishes! When you cook a lot, you have a lot of dishes. It’s annoying!

  1. Rotting floorboards on our deck was what led my husband to have grand visions of a different kind of outdoor space…My husband is handy, too, and it’s really great. We do our own taxes as well… which reminds me. That’s a “me” task and I have not completed it. Anyway, your upcoming plans sound nice. Have a great day!

  2. Four of us have mentioned the April weekend with you now! I’m so excited I can hardly wait, but I also try to not rush the time, you know? You have got a lot going on this month, but hopefully it’s all good things with moving forward with life. I feel you about the cleaning out of a parent’s home; I’m here if you want to talk and process any of that. I cried so much when I did that at Dad’s; it’s not the easiest thing in the world to go through! Love you, friend. Thank you for being a good friend!

    1. I hope I have some energy left for when you all come!
Thank you for that – I might need to. I feel like I am grieving my mom, and grieving my dad all over again. I’m grieving the loss of a home base in my home town.
Thank you for saying that but I’m not always! Sometimes I am too much in my own stuff.

  3. How fun that you have two great weekends this month to get excited about!

I know the stuff with your parents house will be a lot to deal with, hang in there. You will be retired before you know it! Even then I’m sure there will still be things to do with all of that. Wrapping up a life is a lot of work.

My husband does our taxes and I am so grateful.

I hope you are having a good spring break – getting some rest, getting some stuff done and just enjoying a slower pace!

    1. Well, I’m nervous about the house being ready. I am also nervous about being on two weekends in a row!
Thank you – yes it is going to be hard stuff. We are lucky my aunt and uncle are helping this weekend!
I am so grateful for all the things my hub can do.
      I really am. Thank you!

  4. I love the sound of your margarita!
You have some great plans in April. Thinking of you when it comes to sorting your mom’s house out.
Good luck to Tom with the deck.
hehehe! That did make me chuckle about you rapping and singing your Spanish songs.

    1. It’s good and if you can’t find Fresca, any grapefruit or lemon lime soda will work. You do want the carbonation factor.
Thank you! I need it! Tom also needs it. Now it won’t stop raining!

  5. Your April really is going to be full. I’m glad you’re having friends visit for most of it. I don’t really think of you as the stereotypical teacher. I think you look like your own person, someone who likes to have fun and live life to the fullest. We replaced our deck on our house up north with cedar. I wonder what it looks like now. Have a wonderful rest of your spring break.

    1. It is! But, I found out yesterday that my friend from Spain is only staying one night so that will cut down on what I need to plan.
Thank you! Do you have a Lake Michigan home? I love it up there!

      1. Hahaha!! I always tell Mike we’re doing something wrong because so many people we know have two homes. I’m not sure I’d want another one, but it would be nice to have a vacation home.

  6. Your April sounds great (although I know the things with your mom’s estate must be difficult) Tom seems like my brother-in-law (Trav’s sister’s husband) who is the one to call with questions for fixing things or what tools to use, etc

  7. You have a lot going on this month…all good, but still busy. I can’t wait for the blog weekend. We also try to DIY lots like yard work, taxes, etc. I know what you mean about the sneakers. I got rid of one pair that just weren’t comfortable. I had sized down 1/2 size due to reviews, but really just needed my regular size. Hope you have a good rest of the week!

    1. I do! I did get news that my friend from Spain can only stay one night instead of two. Yes, we are those people. I have really struggled with sizing issues but don’t have those with sandals because they are not so contained, I guess. I want less shoes but shoes I really love!
