It’s Wednesday and that means Hodgepodge with Joyce day.

1. Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did your team win? What’s your favorite game day snack for  whatever sport is happening?

I don’t know if I have ever cared less than I cared this year. I usually at least enjoy the halftime show and the commercials. I did like the red, white, and blue of the halftime show but I felt very old since I did not enjoy the music. My Facebook feed was blowing up with people talking about how bad the half time show was and other people saying they just didn’t get it.

2. What’s your ‘superpower’?

Right now, according to my sisters, it’s talking on the phone and talking care of business. I reported to them what I got done on Monday and one sister said, “that’s what I would’ve taken a month to do”.

3. Will you do anything special on Valentine’s Day? If so do share. Any thoughts on/about this particular holiday? Share a favorite verse or quote relating to love.

Valentine’s decor on a rainy night in my hometown:

It’s too late to make a reservation so we will eat at home. I am thinking of picking up gourmet grocery items for Tom of things he enjoys. I think I will be fine to stay home. I don’t love being out on Valentine’s Day with all the people, anyway. With it falling on a Friday – even worse. I was originally going to cook and that might still happen. I am giving myself grace, for sure. We will not do gifts. I want us to buy each other a new set of nightstands for our bedroom that we finally agreed upon. We also found a console and we need a new flat screen. We have been looking and waiting since 2020! We moved into our bedroom and just lived with our old stuff.

4. Are you a fan of the rom-com genre? If so what’s one of your favorites? If you’re not a movie go-er then what about a book you love that features a great love story? How about a favorite love song?

I love a rom-com! How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a favorite!

My original fam sporting our 80s attire and hair:

5. Let’s get creative…write an acrostic using the word L-O-V-E.

L – laughter that fills my cup. Tom is one of the funniest people I know and we share the same sense of humor.

0 – opportunities to show my love for the people in my life

V – velvet – red velvet – is a favorite Valentine’s Day flavor

E – Eddie Otis – my brain is blank. I bought him a new toy called “Moo Cow” – Tom named it and he can find it when we ask for Moo Cow. He looks so funny running around with the cows long legs dangling. I love that this dog loves his toys. He makes us laugh so much and he brings so much energy to our home. He can still be very naughty, though.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I might invite a friend to go to this on Thursday. I love finding little events around town. If I do this on Thursday, I will be even more content to stay home on Friday.

What about you? Any answers to these questions?

Amy

  1. I think it was a good Super Bowl to not care a bit about! I don’t think many people outside of the geographic areas of the two teams cared much about the game. We turned the channel for the half time show so I can’t chime in on that except that my husband and I made the “call” about the half time show prior to it by turning the channel! Our town does a “ladies night out” one Thursday a month- I wonder if ours is this Thursday and is Valentine’s theme. Such a cute idea- I hope you have fun doing it!

  2. How to Lose a Guy is one of my all time fav’s! I have literally never watched a super bowl show and I think I have only ever been to one or maybe 2 super bowl parties (we don’t even know anyone that has one anymore!). We’ll probably go out to eat next weekend and celebrate Valentine’s late to avoid the crowds.

  3. I need a picture of Eddie Otis with Moo Cow dangling from his mouth please! I love him. It’s great that you and Tom are similar in your relationship; laughter is so important in a relationship. If I couldn’t laugh AT myself lately, I’d probably cry. 🤣 Love you, friend. You’re doing well and good job with giving yourself grace upon grace.

  4. That picture of all of the red and pink books makes me happy and that event sounds like a perfect night out with the ladies!!

  5. I hope you go out tomorrow night with your friend – that sounds like fun! We are not going out for V-day, I want to grill steaks.
I am having a friend over for dinner tomorrow night. Haven’t seen her in years and she is having a very tough time right now. I’m looking forward to showering her with love and care, she desperately needs it.

  6. That event sounds like a lot of fun. I’m fine to dine at home, but we think we’ll probably take the kids out for pizza. It’s supposed to be a somewhat rainy weekend and we will be needing to get out. I mentioned a book in my January book recap that you might like. It’s called The Faculty Lounge by Jennifer Mathieu, and is set in a highschool and you will relate to the humor and more. There is language just fyi. My mention of it is on Feb 6 on my blog.

  7. The Thursday event sounds like so much fun!! I love the picture of the red and pink books. The half-time entertainment of the Super Bowl I didn’t get. My 8th graders said I was just old!

  8. I agree that I don’t like going out on Valentine’s Day. We’ve done themed dinners in the past but now that the boys are older, maybe I’ll do a nicer dinner. I love that your hometown puts the hearts on the light posts. Have a great day!

  9. We are actually going to a cabaret on Valentine’s. Our oldest granddaughter is in show choir, and this is their show for competition. Mike has a ticket, but it’s still iffy if he’ll go. It’s a long way to the auditorium. I didn’t watch the Super Bowl and forgot to record it so I could watch the commercials.

  10. We went to a Superbowl party which was fun but the halftime show was so boring in my opinion. I read a lengthy explanation of his performance but we shouldn’t need an explanation!! 🤣

  11. That event sounds fun. Hope you enjoy it if you go. We don’t go out on Valentine’s Day but getting something easy but special for dinner sounds like a plan. Yes being able to laugh together is very important.

  12. If you need a rom-com, we watched Anyone but You on Netflix last week and it was hilarious. I’ve liked Sydney Sweeney since she was in The White Lotus (which is also SO SO good if you need a show to binge).

Your last two posts wouldn’t let me comment but I wanted to say again how sorry I am for your loss and your family is really going through it :/ Like your sister, it’d take me a month to complete a series of tasks, so your ability to focus is admirable.

Plus, what you said about your sisters being burnt out on elementary teaching. It’s REAL. I feel so hopeless for the future some days when we can’t even get the basics right. Everyone always excuses what’s going on in schools with “oh we all turned out okay”. Well things were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT when I was in school, when you were in school, when anyone was in school before the year 2020. /rant

  13. That’s such a gift to your sisters that you don’t mind to make the phone calls. I despise making phone calls…for appointments or payments, etc
We’ve never gone out on VDay but tried to go out at some point around that time. I liked the red, white and blue of Super Bowl too but didn’t understand all the deeper meanings of things.

  14. I refreshed the page and now the comment is working…yea! I’m not big on going out for Valentine’s Day either. We are going out Saturday night for a cooking class though. Mollie loves toys more than any dog we’ve had before. She always carries one around, and moves several from room to room. It’s so funny.
