I am linking up with Holly and Sarah to share my weekend which is still going on.

I chose some quotes of MLK Jr. in Spanish so my students will translate and talk about how they feel about them and pick a favorite tomorrow.

I taught a five day week last week after what turned out to be three weeks at home! So, Friday definitely called for Starbuck’s. I had a gift card that I was anxious to use. I feel urgency at using gift cards. Do you? They burn a hole in my wallet. The line was so long at the drive thru but I waltzed in (saw it had been remodeled!) and I was out of there in a flash.

I ordered peppermint cold foam cold brew or however you say it because of Jen and I loved it!

Friday was a good day at school and I was in a really good mood.

After school it was happy hour! I have been going here a lot, I know. It’s close, it’s fast, and it’s always good. It’s Mojito. It was nice to sit in this tropical heated area!

I tried a special smoky mezcal margarita.

And, we had queso with chorizo.

I went home and found Tom and Mason bathing Eddie Otis in the mudroom. He had been bitten by a dog who has a yard that backs up to the school playground like ours does. EO was sniffing under said dog’s fence and the dog didn’t like it and he grabbed hold of him and bit him. They had to clean it up to see the extent of the damage and I, of course, was freaking out.

Saturday morning Tom took him to the vet (just to be sure) and he had to stay so they could work him in. I went and picked him up around 1:00 and he didn’t need stitches but came home with an antibiotic. Here is his wound:

Can you see the little patch of white above his orange collar on the left? It was so weird having him out of the house from 8-1 and I missed him so much. I stress cleaned and made a mushroom and caramelized onion quiche – as one does.

When I picked him up the sweetest old basset hound was brought in on his dog bed and I knew what was happening. I got teary-eyed and couldn’t focus on paying my vet bill. I’m getting teary-eyed typing this. Why am I telling you all? I guess I want you to share in my pain.

I also picked up some library requests. I have an awful lot piled up right now so we will see what I get to;

I’d rather have too many books than not enough. Anyone with me on that?

We had rain all day Saturday pretty much and the temps got up to the 40s. I still went to the car wash and felt better about getting all that salt off. My black SUV was grey!

img_0461

Kinda cool photo? I’ve only been able to go through an automatic car wash for a handful of years now. I was scared about all the directions and getting it wrong. So proud of myself! I was also scared of the spray tan booth and had a bad experience ala Ross from Friends many years ago. As you know, I faced that fear again a couple of years ago. Bravery comes in many forms and don’t you forget that.

I sat outside a bit in the morning…

and with a hot chocolate later on…

The rain wasn’t able to melt everything away, but it’s definitely much better before this extreme cold hits us next! Are you expecting really cold temps, too?

I ordered a dog toy remote on Amazon and it came just in time for EO to enjoy after his vet adventure. He loves to steal our remote and I thought this was funny but maybe it was going to encourage that behavior.

He loved it and promptly had it in four pieces! oops!

Tom was in a bad mood because his team lost but he channeled it by making two trips to Home Depot and forgetting his wallet and coming back home to get his wallet and me telling him to use Apple pay on his phone and him finally adding cards to his phone. But, he finally changed a light bulb that had needed changing. Baby steps.

So, Tom could do with never going out to dinner. His idea of a good dinner is truly frozen fish sticks, canned peas, and Kraft mac and cheese. He goes to make me happy because I eat breakfast and lunch at school during the week and cook dinner most week nights. He goes out to lunch everyday like a normal person – just kidding. I hate that he does this but I don’t fight the battle.

So, Jack had asked me to dinner to have some one on one time and Tom was all too happy to stay home and eat leftovers with Eddie Otis. We tried a new to us Mediterranean place called Charcoal.

It was really good and we have tons of leftovers. I still love my Shiraz better, though. It’s also closer to home.

I was so tired Saturday that I had already fallen asleep multiple times when I sat down to watch something and I did that again in the evening so I finally gave up and went to bed.

I woke up Sunday to this:

I don’t like Tik Tok, but I had fun making Spanish lesson videos and I kind of don’t want to lose them. Jack told me Saturday night that people have already gone to “RedNote” which is another Chinese app. That was the first I had heard of that one? I had heard this was coming Sunday but I didn’t know how it would go down.

And, then it was back!

It snowed much of the morning and I felt like making bread. I am not part of the sourdough sorority so this is just no knead bread that rises for 2 hours. I failed at the sourdough starter. Maybe I will one day try again.

I gave EO all the attention. He likes to let you participate in his bone chewing. He lays it on your leg.

I didn’t go out until 4:00 and then I promptly regretted it. It had stopped snowing but it was so cold. I went to Fresh Market and Aerie.

Hardly anyone was out! We still have the ugly piles of dirty snow.

I picked up 3 Blaze pizzas for us to split and went home and made a salad to go with it.

And, that’s about it for my wild weekend. I’m grateful EO’s bite wasn’t that bad and I’m grateful for a warm house. Even though it’s so cold, I’m also grateful that the roads are clear now!

What about you?

Amy

  1. I find if I don’t use gift cards in a timely manner they just sit unused with all the others we never got around to using. We have quite a stack of them and I try like crazy to use them up but some are for places we never ever go (or would require a LOT more money out of pocket to use).

We had some warm, rainy weather yesterday that melted all our ice… before a snowstorm moved in last night and dumped another few fresh inches on. It is supposed to be a very cold week this week though so I don’t think this batch will be going anywhere for a little while.

    1. I agree! That would actually be a good January goal to use them up!
If that is the case, I like to give them away.
oh gosh – I hope you can hunker down at home!

  2. I am sorry to hear what happened to EO! Glad you have him back. I like to use a gift card soon because I don’t want to lose it. We have piles of dirty snow in parking lots too. I am just glad we don’t have messy roads. That is not the January I need. Enjoy your holiday!

    1. This little guy has wormed his way into my heart even though he can be a lot! I agree about gift cards. Right? It’s so odd for both of us to have this lingering ugly snow.
Right – the icy roads were a lot to handle.

  3. That tropical seating area in the restaurant looks like heaven in the midwest! (Though maybe your area is considered the south?) I don’t know but it looks lovely! Your whole weekend sounds nice minus the scary dog bite. Yikes! Alyssa was all worried about the TT ban. I told her that the short video app market was not going to go untapped and that a new one would take TT’s place. It looks like that isn’t necessary now… Enjoy your day off of school- you were smart to get a bunch of books!!

    1. It transports you! All the servers are Cuban and I get to speak Spanish with them! They are also so nice. We are kinda midwest and kinda south – lol. I don’t like anything being banned but I do understand the China controversy. I need to read and not watch tv! Always a struggle for me in the winter! Stay warm!

  4. Oh man, poor EO! I would have freaked out. Did the neighbor say anything? Bless his heart and oh my goodness, I would have cried seeing that sweet Basset Hound brought in too. UGH, what a day you had.

The first time I went through the new type of car wash I nearly had a heart attack. I was sweating like crazy and needed a shower myself once it was done. I thought my transmission was going to get screwed up – all the alerts and alarms going off freaked me out and of course the attendant yelling at me because I didn’t see the sign about putting my car in neutral. Last year I faced my fears and bought a membership and now I go through it like a pro. But YIKES! When did things change so drastically???

  5. Poor EO! I’m glad he’s ok but that’s scary. I know what you mean about the car wash & the spray tanning booth 😂 so sweet that you had 1:1 time with Mason. I went out on Sunday too —well, hadley has volleyball tournament very early but once we got home, I went back out to go to Aldi and pick up a couple of things at Kroger before getting my big order today. The roads were yucky and I felt like Aldi was packed. Enjoy this Monday off from school.

    1. Thank you! It was. So many rules and instructions and I get nervous!
I have not been to Aldi in so long! I also haven’t been to TJ’s. I guess I am a Kroger girl right now. Oh, and Fresh Market!

  6. I’m glad EO is okay; that kind of thing with dogs is scary! I am totally with you on having too many book from the library rather than not having enough. I went to my library twice this weekend! I am making a request for when we come to Lou for Mediterranean food of some kind; we ate at a Cava when we were in Nashville last year and loved it; we would all enjoy this, I think. I love that you tried a new place with Mason! Enjoy your day, my friend!

    1. Thank you! My baby! I have to be ok with not picking or getting to my whole stack.
I think there is one we can walk to but I have a couple of options! We don’t have a Cava, sadly.

  7. Poor EO!! So glad his bite wasn’t much worse!! My dog had the same thing happen when he was sniffing around a neighbor’s fence except my dog was bit under his tail by his left leg! We have a chance of sleet/ice/snow here later this evening. I’m good with the snow but we have lost trees in the past from ice. Today is my youngest daughter’s birthday. Thankful we got to celebrate before she went to college.

    1. Thank you! That sounds worse and so painful. Ugh – over the ice. Happy bday! it’s sad and weird when you don’t see your baby on their actual bday, isn’t it?

  8. I can’t believe you saw, what you saw at the vet! Unfortunately, we had to put our doggy down, Rusty. He was 15 years old, a Yorkie and Maltese mix. I had him for 9 years when I met my husband, He was my baby, having no kids and Mike working so much he was alone a lot! So, I soon retired and we were joined at the hip! He lost use of his legs had eye and ear and a mouth infections and was too weak for any medicine. It was time. We took him Tuesday night and I have not left the house. It’s also 8 below right now which helps. I thought of you this having to go through this. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Maybe others wouldn’t have known what was happening but it was raw and fresh for me since it was only about 9 months ago.
I’m so sorry. They are just the best family members and we truly don’t deserve them.
I found it so hard to be at home at first.
      Thinking of you.

  9. I’m so sorry about the incident with EO. My mom’s Lab was recently attacked by another dog while they were out walking, and she required surgery. So stressful. I love all of your restaurant photos. It looks like you have a lot of good ones in Louisville. Enjoy your week and stay warm!

  10. The quiche sounds good! So sorry about your pup. I’m sure that was scary and so glad it wasn’t worse! My hubs loves to eat out and is always up for it. I just know I need to cook more than I eat out if I want to stay on track with calories in a given week. Stay warm and have a nice week!

    1. It had let’s say – a rustic crust. I need to just buy the frozen pretty ones.
      Thank you.
That’s so funny that you are the opposite of us. I agree – eating out always feels like it should be a celebration and I indulge too much.

  11. I’m so glad EO was ok! That’s quite a wound on his neck. Albie has had his nose nipped before when he tries to greet a dog through a fence. I remember being so jealous of people who got to go out for lunch when I was a teacher, and then enjoying a restaurant lunch so much on teacher workdays! I also like to use a gift card right away. Hope you have a good week!

Yes – I get jealous come patio weather!
We love going out on teacher days. Me too – I have a good one right now I need to use. It’s a big shopping boutique I want to take you all to that has a bar!

  12. Your MLK lesson sounds like such a great way for your students to practice their skills while reflecting on the messages these quotes offer. Love it! I’m so sorry that EO (and you) had this happen but I’m glad he’s healing well. Have a great week ahead!

  13. Poor EO! I’m glad you were able to get him into the vet so quickly. And, I teared up reading about the Bassett Hound. It’s such a hard decision to make and then carry through.

We had a day late last week in the upper 40s. It melted lots of snow in yards and on some streets, but now there are big frozen lumps in the middle of some of the streets. And, it’s brutal here. I made a new white chicken chili last week, but Mike didn’t like it. So, I’m trying to find another soup to make because it’s soup season around here!

I’m glad I never got into TikTok…I can barely keep up with the things I do have!

    1. Thank you! I know – it was so sad. I wonder how the vet does it day in and day out. He is so compassionate.
Boo to Mike for not liking your chili. Men!
I feel the same. I only did TikTok as a fun challenge with my students.

  14. I am glad Eddie Otis is ok, but yikes that is scary! I am hit or miss with gift cards. Some I use immediately and others I like to save for a treat later. Good for you to get outside and read a bit. It was way too cold here to do that. I love that Jack asked for some one on one time with you! Jeff is the same as Tom, he’s happy to eat at home all the time, but I like to go out occasionally! Have a great week!

  15. Poor EO! What kind of dog was it? I’d be bothered by that for sure.

Scott also goes out for lunch most days, even just to pick something up, which is sooooo different from my reality lol.

    1. It was a Great Dane. It has hurt neighbor dogs and Ernie, too. I don’t think it’s necessarily the dog’s fault. I’m not sure he has good training or interaction. It’s a homeschool family that is pretty wild from what I can tell.
yes – what would that even be like? It’s not what’s best for me health-wise, for sure.
