First of all, I have been living in my own snow globe and I finally came out to see what’s happening in the rest of the country – oops. I cannot imagine the devastation going on in California. The only reference I had to the Santa Ana winds is from the movie The Holiday and this is part of what caused them I read.

It really puts things into perspective if they aren’t already there.

Sorry I have been slow to respond to comments this week, too. With my cold I just haven’t felt much like being on the computer.

So here are some favorites or maybe this week just happenings…

We had snow days all week long (today is another one but teachers are working from home) and I let my skin rest and did nothing but moisturize. It sometimes makes me wonder what would happen to our skin if we literally put nothing on it?

This:

Sorry to scare you like that!

I’m super impressed by this product and I have since looked into more makeup by Catrice, but haven’t purchased anything else yet. The prices are great and it’s available on Amazon. I believe it might be from Germany. I first bought the tan on the right and it worked great, but then my curiosity got the best of me and I ordered the pink and it’s even better for me!

I had my colors done in the 80s and they said that both warm and cool foundations went into my skin naturally. Am I a unicorn? I was a “summer”. I still have the fan of my best colors. I should find that. Does this change with age?

I took down the Christmas and now have a few white and blue things along with twinkle lights just on my mantle.

Old family photo in a snowy frame:

I was wearing a jean blazer from Target and I loved those turquoise beads. I always got my twins the same shirt in coordinating colors. I wish I could go back and squeeze those little things. They still let me hug them which I appreciate. They are actually pretty affectionate. It makes me happy.

Jenn sent me her quiche recipe and I lost it and then I asked for it again:

I switched out the spinach for broccoli. I used frozen broccoli but I heated it and seasoned it up in a skillet before putting it in my pie crust. I used a pie crust from Trader Joe’s that fell apart. I had to roll it out and piece it back together but it worked. My mom used to make broccoli quiche in the 80s. A quiche is a nice thing to have around. Also, you can be like, “I am having a slice of quiche” and you sound kind of fancy.

Holy yum! I used colby jack shredded cheese and some white cheddar. If I were a rapper my name might be “White Chedda”. I like to tell that to my students.

Eddie Otis brought in a frozen hunk of snow and played with it:

Younger was the perfect bingeing show on the day I felt the worst this week:

Sutton Foster’s hair is gorgeous.

It’s hard to be sick with this needy fellow:

We say he is our most “paw forward” dog we have had. He paws at us a lot. Our other dogs didn’t do that.

I finished this. I enjoyed parts of it but other parts I didn’t enjoy. I’m not sure I would recommend it. How’s that for a review?

Here is what my back porch looks like – still…

It looks like we don’t get above freezing temps until a week from Saturday.

A car got stuck outside my house:

We were going to help them but they left before we could offer them shovels and manpower. They came back with their own shovels and manpower.

Tom has been going to work and then a couple of evenings he has taken us where we needed to go. We had to kill some time at Target:

I couldn’t believe how bad the parking lot and sidewalk were…

And, then we killed some time at a little Mexican place that was really good! It’s called Taco Choza if you are local.

I said thank you to the few Target employees there and to the people working at the restaurant and gave them a big tip. I need to give money to local businesses when I can get out again. I hope they had a good holiday season and this didn’t hurt them too badly.

Look at Kroger’s message:

I just use the app as a place to put items we need in the future. I am not planning on ordering anytime too soon.

He wants us to participate in bone chewing. He brings us his bone and lays it on our leg. Very weird.

Look how cute:

Why is cinnamon toast – old fashioned, under the broiler so good?

I really miss my kitchen tv and my phone is just too small. Tom surprised me with this!

I need to set up all my streaming services on it. If you have one, tell me in what ways you use it?

This year I am trying to embrace January and you know what, it will be halfway over-ish come Monday. That’s both crazy and exciting.

Snow is weird. It makes everything look brighter outside and it muffles sound so much. I have enjoyed the quiet.

Also, it’s already staying light out later and it’s really noticeable now!

I will need some friend time soon. Our last couples’ dinner was cut short with Mason’s tire blow out. NYE was just me. Tom needs to get ready to be social!

It’s easy to save money when you are stuck at home. Or, is it? Do you want to online shop when you get bored?

Let me know what you think in the comments about any of my topics today – there’s a little bit for everyone here, right?

Ha!

  1. Wow, how can I choose to write about just one thing? 😀 Well, first: hope you get better soon! I hate those colds! I’ve been ok for a long time, but I really feel how my immune system is under attack constantly!

Snow is beautiful and magical! But it also creates a lot of problems when it comes to transport… I really depend on my bicycle to move around, and snow is a problem! But I love the light and the muffled sounds! And kids in school are so happy!

I am bit worried about January… I’m not especially dependent on the weather, I’m mostly a happy camper, but I know from experience that people around me will start to wither soon… 😉

  2. I do love how the snow muffles the sound and makes everything shine off it so it feels brighter (until it gets muddy and brown anyway). I hope you’re feeling better soon and am so glad you’ve had this unexpected time to rest and recuperate.

  3. we have had the cough/cold for weeks. It just lingers. I also have the blue Hunters (tall). I rarely wear them anymore. I hope you are on the mend.

    1. Yes – Tom’s dd! He got sick on Thanksgiving weekend and stayed coughing most of December and I managed to avoid it for a long time.
The tall boots are too much effort to put on.
I can easily slip on the short boots I have!

  4. I actually love that picture of you in your coat in the snow! I think it’s perfect! How precious is that family photo too – I know what you mean about wishing you could go back and squeeze those little guys. I do miss my little boys and wish I could turn back time somedays. Then on the other hand I love the adults they’ve become!

I am a unicorn too – I was told the same thing – both cool and warm when I had my colors done (make up colors too by an aesthetician). I felt like a freak at the time! Ha!! I am ordering that Catrice product now. I have used a highlighter of theirs and liked it.

Here’s to hoping the snow melts soon – have a great weekend!

  5. That cinnamon toast is bringing back memories of my childhood for sure! Being stuck in on a snow day can go either way- yes you don’t spend as much “out” BUT there is that online shopping and I fall victim to that sometimes too- ha!

  6. I think it’s possible our colors change as we age, but don’t know that for a fact. I do know I’m a natural brunette but now I need lighter tones especially around my face. I tried returning to my natural brown and my stylist and I agreed it aged me some. Ice is such a problem. But at least you didn’t have to go in when you were feeling puny. I have a quiche recipe that is no fail and everyone loves. I like to have one in the freezer and plan to make a couple this coming week. Great for breakfast and dinner both. Hope you have a nice weekend and are feeling better soon!

    1. Oh share your quiche recipe!
That is so true about our hair color. I think most look better with lighter shades around the face? It looks great on some women I know in their 60s and 70s. It takes years off their face!

  7. I have that catrice eye makeup in my cart…

My mom always did coordinating colors for my (twin) brothers too, as they got older. Look how blond your kids are!

I’ve used my iPad to stream shows on for a decade now. The Echo will be useful!

I binged Younger years ago, which is definitely one of the places I got the name Sutton from (and then I watched The Bold Type when I was pregnant with Wells and got Sutton from there as well).

I hope you feel better. I’ve had the same cold-type symptoms for 2 weeks now, so I get it.

    1. I guess it’s my first eye brightener but I really like it.
They were even blonder than in that foto!
      I wasn’t sure I would like re-watching it, but it’s so good!
Love that name so much! My fave girl name was always Sloan.
Thank you! I am feeling much better and so happy I got to stay home.

  8. I love cinnamon sugar toast. Core childhood memory. I’ve never seen Younger but have added it to my list. There was Sutton foster / Hugh Jackman gossip recently. The family photo in the snow frame is precious! I have a frame in the living room and I have pics in it that I swap out seasonally. Cute pics of the kids through the years per season. I always love doing that. I hope you are feeling better.

  9. Hope you get over your cold soon!! I would love some snow in South Texas but not until after my girls get safely back to college! Have a great weekend!

  10. I have so much to comment on, but I’ll keep it brief. I am intrigued by the eye brightener! I haven’t used anything like that in a long time. I use minimal makeup to actually cover up my skin (like foundation), but I may look into this. I’ve been waking up with dark circles under my eyes lately. Thanks for the shout out! I might make quiche today if I have a pie crust. I don’t know that I do! I love how EO paws at you; Chloe does that to us and it always makes me laugh. I am sure you are more than ready to be social! I hope you get to do that this weekend. ❤️

    1. I was chatty and all over the place, no?
      Cabin fever?
This is my first eye brightener. Concealer just looks bad on me. Or, maybe I am not doing it right?
I wonder if you can use your sourdough starter to make a crust?
it’s so funny – we love it but it’s also like a toddler needing attention.
I may go out and talk to strangers or my weird neighbors if it gets too bad.

  11. Eek! That snow! We’ve had freezing temperatures here but not much snow.
I haven’t heard of that make up brand before but it sounds good.
Your quiche looks so yummy! I’m not even a fan of broccoli but I think I would want to try it.

  12. Quiche is great anytime of day. I love the throwback photo. I had a very similar turquoise necklace. Big jewelry was so popular in those days! I hope you are feeling better. I loved this post filled with random thoughts…I was nodding along the whole time. 🙂

    1. It really is! Thank you! I loved that necklace. It really was. Thank you – I am! That’s my brain – very random! Thank you, though, and have a good weekend!

  13. Ooooh I love old-school cinnamon toast like that, and I don’t know many other people who really even know about it! I hope you’re feeling better! And WOW that is a lot of snow! Happy New Year!

  14. Wow! An entire week off! Will you have to make any of it up? One year, we missed so many days, they lengthened our day by an hour (which seemed like an entire day). I have never been able to figure out how to use eye brighteners. Maybe a tutorial? I love quiche and should make one sometime. So, do you dunk your cinnamon toast in hot chocolate? Yummy! Jack is a pawer…if I am petting or scratching him and stop, he’ll paw at me to begin again. We got three or four more inches yesterday and night. It’s that sparkly kind. Hope you’re soon feeling better.

    1. We have to make them all up! I think! We usually do.
I do not – never heard of dunking it. Also, I never eat the cinn toast – for my family. I will steal a triangle but it’s never for me.

  15. I love how snow makes everything brighter in what would otherwise be a drab time of year. I’m also loving how it’s already noticeable that the days are getting longer.

I really like cinnamon toast, but somehow I hardly ever make it. A few weeks ago I made some for our teenagers and they weren’t impressed. Apparently not having it as a child they never developed a taste for it.

    Blessings~
