I don’t really have enough fashion talk or fashion photos to make a post, so let’s just talk as if we are sitting down to coffee, but make the focus more on fashion than anything else, ok?

The name of the game around here is just staying warm and cozy.

I am on my 4th snow day today! So, no online learning or online working for teachers – no nothing!

It’s actually been good timing for me because I think Tuesday I would have had to call in sick as that was my worst day. It started last Friday with a little congestion, then more, and more, and then it worked its way down to a chest cough. I’ve also had some sinus pain and pressure.

Anyway, some districts have a 3 week winter break and that’s basically what this has turned into.

Northerners don’t understand that we can’t handle even the smallest amount of snow. Add ice on top and we are literally debilitated. Add super cold temps and no chance of anything melting, and even worse…

So, the snow hit on Sunday and continued on Monday. Here is what Target looked like last night:

Before the snow hit, I wore my Halaras and my Koolaburras with my Walmart pullover from last season:

The next night I did the same thing but with the other pair of Halaras, my black Chelsea boots, and a sweater:

I tried the Rothy’s trick of putting a no show sock over the insert. I haven’t worn them out in the wild yet.

Leggings, Koolaburras, and my black turtleneck along with my black vest:

I enjoyed having a lighter pearly white mani after my Christmas colors and now I’m letting my nails breathe since I’m stuck at home. I am ready for color again!

Yes, my blue sweater badly needs this:

I’m excited to have a sweater shaver.

I hardly ever wear these 15 year old Hunters anymore. I find shorter boots so much easier to throw on. Also, these aren’t as warm as my short black boots. But to get 15 years plus out of a pair of boots is pretty amazing!

The other thing about living in Louisville, Kentucky or further south is we just don’t have the winter gear! We don’t even know what winter coat means here! A hoodie is not a winter coat.

People that live further north have real winter snow boots, waterproof gloves, serious hats, scarves, and winter coats, you know? I have all the stuff but I rarely need it here. Tom has more than all the stuff and our kids have all the stuff because Tom has bought it for them but they rarely even wear a coat because youth today, you know?

You can either be warm or be stylish but you can’t be both – lol. True or false?

What have you been wearing?

Amy

  1. Unless I’m going to be outside for any length of time I rarely bother with a winter coat and all the layers either. I have all the stuff; heck I even have battery operated heated gloves! But if I’m running to the store or the library or the gym I just freeze for the few minutes walking from my car to the building. I do keep a coat in the car just in case I ever broke down or anything but hate the bulk of my winter gear. I remember the first time my parents moved to North Carolina and when it snowed no one around them had car scrapers or shovels, etc. which really is all second nature to use.

  2. I bought a pair of knock off uggs from Walmart and wore them on our trip up north – they kept my feet so warm! I saw that type of shoe/boot all over PA & NY. We really don’t have much of a need for winter gear here but since we are traveling I am open to buying more.

In FL it’s easier to be warm & stylish but I can see how challenging it would be if I lived somewhere else!

    Hoping you feel better!

      1. I actually prefer a platform to something flat. I have a lot of foot pain on the balls of my feet so the more cushion and padding the better. I find a platform really helps! No one was more surprised than I was that they were so comfortable doing all that walking!

  3. I love this and if you are asking me, I rather be stylish than warm- ha! I am already over winter and we haven’t even had much snow- I always count down the days until spring!

  4. Our snow is starting tonight/early tomorrow morning. I have never had the Hunter boots, but in 2022, I bought myself a really nice pair of Sorel boots for the winter. They’re short and super warm, and otherwise perfect for winter weather. They were pricey, but I have no regrets. I agree about not having proper attire here in the South for this kind of weather! I do have a winter coat, but I rarely wear it; I will this weekend!

    1. Get ready! I wish I had pulled out the gloves, hats box and organized it. You will not regret Sorels! Those will last forever, too.
Same – so annoying to put it all on for errands normally.

  5. Hi,

I have been wearing a lot of PJs, turtlenecks, leggings (lined) long underwear and big sweatshirts. It “hurts” when you go outside! Its hard to be fashionable when your cold. For sure I could care less!

    Have a great day!

  6. Hayden had to wear my snow pants when he went sledding because we couldn’t find his snow bibs. Some years we need all the winter gear and sometimes we don’t. While the kids weren’t super excited for gloves as a gift, now they are thanking me 😂 I put on a little bit of makeup yesterday because I had an eye dr appt but otherwise I haven’t dressed up much since last Friday either. Stay warm!

  7. We’ve been wearing sweaters and warm jackets here because it finally got cold! Happy the weather is warming up this weekend as my 2 girls have to drive back to college. We have lots of warm clothes because we used to snow ski. Feeling extra thankful after seeing all of the wildfire devastation in Los Angeles 😞

  8. 4th day off of school and you ask what I’m wearing? Pjs, of course. I’ll motivate around noon to shower and get dressed in normal clothes for…. sitting around the house some more!🤣 Enjoy the cozy!

  9. I tend to give up after a while… I start the winter season with fancier attires, but end up with only wearing a really warm red winter jacket and my Dr. Martens… every single day… four three months… (at least).

How nice for you to work from home these days! I wish I could do that too!
