Yay! I remembered to use Sarah and Holly’s new graphic! Isn’t it pretty?

Let’s go back to Friday morning. I knew it was my last week day of break – wah! I went to a warehouse sale of my favorite boutique. They hold it in the back corner of a furniture store in the same shopping center – random.

Can you see the pep in the step of these ladies? We all got there right at the start of it.

Last year I didn’t buy anything at all; this year I knew if they had the black version of the magenta dress I bought this fall I would get it. The dress retails for $54 and it is by the brand Mitoshop. I got my magenta for $39. Well, they had it in black, rust, and a couple of other colors. They also had a short sleeve version. Um, I walked out with 5 dresses that were $15 each. The dress could literally be worn in 3-4 seasons. They are solid colors and you can put a cardigan or scarf over them.

The dress:

Did I go a little crazy buying these dresses? Yes. It’s a great material and the shape works for me – I think. I could have left with just the black but what’s the fun in that? Also, some people say not to get multiples but multiples have always been good to me.

Eddie Otis is a pack a day smoker these days. He loves pulling out the three cigarettes.

So, Tom passed his cold on to me – just sinus pain and a bit of congestion. It could also be allergies after kicking up a lot of dust cleaning. These freezer re-usable patches are great for sinus pain. I’ve also been using the retinol patches. They feel great under your eyes.

We went out to eat on Friday night and splurged a bit on their version of the blooming onion:

I found You’ve Got Mail for free on Tubi.

Saturday I got up feeling a bit worse. It’s hard to know if it’s poor sleep or my cold. I have literally not slept well for the last half of break because of Tom hacking for part of that time and keeping me up and now my congestion. Fun times.

People started getting very excited about the winter weather advisory and that’s all I heard about for most of Saturday!

I got an Amazon delivery, though…

I can’t believe the quality of the rose gold She Reads Truth Bible from Amazon for the price – $22. It looks like it’s now $25. It came in a nice box and would make a great gift. Thanks, Jenn, for the rec.

I also ordered a new planner that is notebook size. I hope I like the larger size. We don’t mess around with our planners now, do we, ladies? I liked the price at just under $10 and the space it has to write your to do lists is great, too.

I started feeling better to the point that I didn’t think I was sick and then felt the need to get out because of the warnings that we could be trapped inside for a few days.

I had a Kroger pick up at 1:00 and I feared I wouldn’t get a lot of my stuff but it ended up great and I only had to be without a couple of items.

I went to my two consignment stores but left empty handed and then the library where I didn’t leave empty handed and got all these requests. I love reading everyones’ favorite books from 2024!

You may notice the top book is the one I bought from Target. My plan is to give my Target copy to a friend and finish the library copy because it was too late to cancel my request.

One goal I have for myself is to scroll on my phone less and read more. Well, the barrier to reading in my living room is the lighting or me being close enough to a lamp. So, I am keeping my neck light in the living room now and it’s working great except when Tom tells me I am blinding him. Ha! This helps me be in the same room as Tom but doing my own thing.

When I got home from my Saturday errands I read and Tom watched Top Gun and I kinda watched, too. I stopped my reading for the football scene, k?

Saturday night I wanted to go out again because I knew lots of cooking was headed my way – whether it be weather related or just going back to school related.

We went to our closest Mexican restaurant and I’ve determined it’s not my fave Mexican food place at all. Their chips are not that good. I guess it kept me from eating too many.

I could only drink about 1/2 inch of this skinny margarita.

This was just meh.

Tom had enough to feed a family of four.

We brought lots home so as to not waste food.

I woke up Sunday to the starts of the snow.

These pictures are bad, but Eddie Otis picks a toy to carry and runs the lap of our living room, dining room, and kitchen and it’s so funny. He does about 10 laps several times a day.

In this photo, he has chosen his elephant that we all call elefante. He has lambie gigante (Tom named it), lambie poquito (Tom named it and it’s not correct), purple nurple (a purple bear), fox, taco, margarita, chili pepper, monkey, tug, and a couple more. He can get pretty much whichever one we tell him to get.

Here he is with lambie gigante:

Can you tell this dog gets no attention?

I complained to my students that the snow we got in December didn’t allow me to watch it coming down – my fave – because it occurred after dark or overnight. So, I guess I got my wish on Sunday!

Eddie Otis loved it!

This was 4 inches, but I think our total was close to 8 when later in the day.

And, we got the cancellation very early.

I made a cake! Snow makes me want to bake!

I parked myself on the couch most of the day with my cold supplies.

I tried to go out one more time but I could hardly walk in the crunchy snow. It was so deep and we were having freezing rain on top!

I made beef bulgogi bowls for dinner and all 4 of us were home due to the weather!

So, that’s all I’ve got for now. What’s your weather like? I don’t think we will go to school Tuesday but I hope that we use online learning. No, it’s not the same, but it’s something to ease the kids back in after break.

What about you?

Amy

  1. Wow, so much snow! It’s white over here too, but not that much. It’s bugging me a bit because I can’t use my bike… it’s beautiful with the light though! And the days are quickly becoming longer, nice! During December it was dark around 3 pm, cozy, but you get so tired! Btw, the concept of snow days does not exist over here! Then there wouldn’t be much school for the kids, ha ha!

Wonderful with all the dresses! I like to shop like that too! And so easy to just throw on and mix with other things.

23 year old has arrived safely in Austin! She almost cried when she saw the dorm room (she’s living in a co-op), but it seems like she has gotten over the first shock now… 😀

    1. it’s a record snow for us!
I hope I made a good purchase of all the dresses.
Yay – what does she think of Austin so far? Yes, dorms are tiny. She might be with other international students, too, which can be not the point of being in the US!

      1. She loves Austin! The university provides the students with bus cards, so she has been all over the place. The problem with the dorm is that it is very run down and old… but at least she only has to share bathroom with one girl. And it’s freaking cold in Texas right now (as you know!) so the kids are freezing. Thankfully she left in all her winter attires. True, with the international students, so far she has mostly hanged out with two Swedish guys from her school in Stockholm and her Japanese neighbor :D.

  2. Wow; I don’t think we have even had that much snow yet. But it has been pretty cold in the 20’s & 30’s. I tend to buy multiples of clothing too and it has always worked for me as well. Your new books look great!

  3. Amy – I am a bit north of you in Cincinnati and we have all that snow, too! I do not think we have the freezing rain yet. I, too, want to bake when it snows. I made a good chocolate chip cookie recipe. I usually bake ~10 – 12 cookies and freeze the remaining dough for use here and there. One of my goals for the new year is to read more and scroll less, too! Happy new year!

  5. OMG EO and his toy collection are hilarious. I love that he knows the word for each of them. In our household they are all called “toy”, we clearly have to up our game ;). We’re Hunter boots twins, btw. 🙂

    1. We think so. Ha – on the other hand I don’t think EO knows the word toy.
I am just not wearing my tall boots as often. They are more trouble to put on and I wear less skinny jeans or leggings, too, now – hmmm interesting observation, no?

  6. I like the idea of easing back in to the year after break. It’s nice when it’s a short week for starters. I do hope you’re feeling better. There is so much out there right now. My grandkids will be here later this month and they often bring me something lol. Hoping everyone stays well! I love all the snow. We rarely get any but ‘they are saying we may see some Friday-Saturday. It never lasts here though which is also fine. Take care of yourself! Have a nice week!

  7. Love seeing Eddie Otis and his toys! Unbridled joy, for sure. We had overnight snow, minimal, and it is gone now. I hate ice, too. After living in Atlanta for several years, I’m over the ice thing, even years later. It is treacherous. Stay warm!

  8. That snow is beautiful, but I really hope it stays away from us here! I do not want to be stuck inside, snowed in and unable to drive on ice. I also want/need to learn to not be afraid to drive on ice; I will do it if I absolutely have to, but it’s not my favorite. Such is life now, so I’m determined to not be intimidated by weather! I can see why you would want online learning while the snow sticks around to ease yourself back into working, too. I hope that happens! My weekend was a good mix of fun/going out and being at home. I got my post up finally; our internet went down last night with the thunderstorms that happened here, and I was finally able to turn on my mobile hot spot to get a blog post up. I was out last night and hadn’t worked on it prior to last night; I went to such a cute place on Saturday with my mom that I shared about. It was different, which I love, and I hadn’t been there in ages. Enjoy your bonus day today! It’s a great day to read some books.

    1. You got it! I am so behind on comments because I just didn’t feel like being on my computer with my sinus headaches.
The more you do something the easier it will be. Maybe get out and drive earlier than you would have to give yourself confidence.

  9. Oh, wow, you got freezing rain, too! We did not, thankfully! Your snow is so pretty. Ours was pretty easy to walk in, though it did feel like a decent work out so that was nice! I hope you are feeling better today- how nice to not worry about going in to school. The bowls you had look really good- healthy and delicious!

  10. We are finally getting cold weather in Texas. I can finally wear sweaters! North Texas always gets ice though but in South Texas we will have a chance of rain and snow on Wed. Not cold enough so it will all melt. Hope you get over your cold soon!! My 2 college kids go back to school this coming weekend 😞 Not looking forward to that.

  11. I love seeing the snow pics but don’t miss living in it !! Currently (7am PST) it’s 35 deg and should be sunny today. I’m still on a restriction for walking so I’ll go do my 2 miles later today. We had fog warnings but it’s definitely not foggy in town. Maybe in the country. Have a fun snow day! I think our schools are out until next Monday? They take 3 weeks off.

  12. EO’s toy names 😂😂 love the pink dress! Perfect on you. We had Mexican food on Friday at our fave place and it hit the spot. We were supposed to have a work day today but it was canceled. It’s hard to imagine school at all this week based on the snow, ice and the below freezing temps on the way. We have lots without power so who knows about NTI. We’ll see. I’m up for whatever 😂I do wish we’d gone back to school a couple of days before all this weather

  13. We got mostly ice! A few inches of snow overnight but yeah, mostly ice on Sunday.

And I had a cold all last week too. It started with a fever and chills one day though so it probably could’ve been a lot worse!

  14. You are seriously in a winter wonderland! I’m so sorry you have a cold! EO sounds so smart to find the toys by name. The bible is so nice. I have that one too, although I went back to using an older slimline version because that’s what I was used to. I love the dress, and I love buying multiples. If you find something that works, stick with it! Have a good week!

    1. I am! And, last night we got about 3 more inches of the really fluffy snow.
I didn’t realize this Bible would be so big and it’s a bit overwhelming. I need to put some tabs in it maybe to be able to find sections.
      That’s what I think!

  15. Oh, your snow is beautiful! There’s nothing more fun than everyone at home on a snow day. I’m a multiples buying too – if it works, it works (in every color) lol!

  16. Oh, I buy multiples if I really like something. Besides, $15 for a dress you already know you like is a great deal. I can’t wait to see you style them.

OK, I am not a planner kind of person. I have been using a large calendar from MacKenzie Childs, but they didn’t send me one this year…guess I didn’t order enough. Last year, they sent me two. I may need to order this planner because blogging has all of a sudden become much more complicated.

We got 11 inches of snow, and I got to watch a lot of it come down. It’s beautiful, and it’s going to be cold so I think it will be around for a bit. Luckily, we only have to go a little bit for Mike’s P/T appointments.

Hope your first days back at school fly by!
