It’s such a nice feeling to have until January 6th off from work! Yes, it’s hard to get out so late – December 20th – but my sister put it this way – the longer you have off before Christmas the more Christmas errands and prep you will do and you could have time to add more to your plate and spin your wheels. The time you have off after Christmas can be for relaxation and house projects and non-Christmas things. Sister Kate is very wise, no?

I hope that Sarah and Holly are doing their link-up today!

We left off on ye old blog with Friday Favorites and we had gotten to the end of Christmas Day.

The day after Christmas was the day we were gathering at my mom’s house in Indiana. My mom spent Eve and Day with Molly’s family and they brought her back. My other sister Kate was coming from Ohio.

We literally have to go over the Ohio River, so this works…

Somebody thinks he’s a lap dog. One of my students thinks EO’s tongue is too long. Lol!

EO is a great car rider. He would have slept the whole hour in the way back of the family truckster but Tom stopped for a bathroom break (yay – it’s him now that always has to stop and not me!) and that got EO excited. He was very concerned about his people getting out of the car.

EO was also an angel at Grandma’s house again like he was at Thanksgiving. Cousin Ezra (Kate’s lunchmeat dog – as Tom calls him is very aggressive toward EO but EO remains calm). Ezra is only about 10 pounds.

We took some silly sister pics on the porch:

Do you think we look alike? I am the oldest and the floral print is Kate (the middle) and the green is Molly (the baby).

We did a pasta bar and I made bowtie alfredo:

It has cajun seasoning on it. And, I made some roasted broccoli that was criticized for its smell and small amount. Lol.

All the carbs…

We did white elephant gifts with a game involved and then my mom gave her gifts out and we gave my mom gifts but that is all we do by way of gift giving and it’s great!

I had changed my Christmas mani to this:

So fresh and so clean!

We had a really nice day with my side of the family in Indiana. The next day we were supposed to go to Tom’s parents but there was illness afoot at their house so it was cancelled. We were literally walking out the door all four of us and Eddie Otis when we found out.

So, Tom and did some returns we needed to do and then I did an errand on my own and talked on the phone to a couple of people I needed to get caught up with. Then, we really didn’t do much the rest of the day. Tom and I are watching Bad Sisters so we watched a couple of episodes. Then, we got Thai for dinner.

Pad Thai with chicken:

I watched a movie in Spanish and stayed up too late, but still got up early on Saturday morning.

It was only 52 so EO and I started our day on the patio!

I don’t want to be materialistic, but I want to share a few special gifts that I received this year. My former student went to college and started making the preppy leather monogram belts with a friend. It morphed into a business with a store in both Louisville and Charleston, SC! I loved this kid and he took AP Spanish! The store is called Clayton and Crume. I have wanted a bag for years – years, I tell you!

Look what Tom did and I didn’t even really tell him.

I did tell him I wanted to replace my glittery Kate Spade studs and he did that, too.

And, look what my mom got me! I’m so excited!

And, then Tom got sick with what he thought was a sinus infection. Spoiler…he was sick all weekend. He logged a lot of hours in the chair but he did go and take Eddie Otis on some walks when he wasn’t in the chair.

I had plans so off I went on Saturday morning at 10 in this ‘fit.

I met my friend Victoria at Con Huevos and we talked for 3 hours! We hadn’t seen each other since September probably so we had a lot to catch up on.

I went home and lacked motivation to clean and do laundry and put holiday things away. Eddie Otis is super advanced so around 4:00 he grabbed his margarita for happy hour.

Since he isn’t 21, I met my friend Heather at Mojito and we both had a mojito. When in Cuba…

And, their plantain chips and guac are to die for. And, my former student waited on us! A former student worked at Con Huevos and came over to say hi there, too. They’re everywhere I tell ya.

I came home after happy hour and started the Holiday Touchdown Kansas City Chiefs movie – lol.

Sunday morning I did the walk with EO because Tom was in the bed. He finally got up and EO got another walk.

I literally did nothing Sunday until about 2:00 and then I went to TJ Maxx and the store was so empty of merch. I’ve never seen it that empty! I didn’t buy anything. Then, I did a grocery pick up and made this chili:

And, now I am writing this blog post.

Anyone have any other movie suggestions? Shows? Books? Let me know!

How was your weekend? Did you continue the celebrations?

Amy

  1. bad Sisters is so good! I recommend Shrinking and Hijack on Apple and Based on a True Story on Peacock. Admittedly it took a couple episodes to get into True Story. The main guy is from The Mindy Project.

  2. Happy new year! So sorry your hubs isn’t feeling well. There’s so much going around right now including the flu. Ugh! We laid low this weekend, caught up on laundry, restocked groceries, that sort of fun. We need the break honestly so I’m not complaining. I’m going to have my daughter and grandkids here later in January for a while and know I need to rest up!! Christmas is still up at my house and I will probably tackle that later this week. Today we plan to walk, watch football, read, and book an air b/b for later this summer, which is time consuming. We started looking yesterday and it’s a rabbit hole for sure. Stay well!

    1. Thank you! He did go to work today and I am really ready for the break from his hacking. That sounds horrible. I packed him lots of cough drops. I hope I don’t get it! He is very dramatic when sick so I never really know if he is “woman sick” or “man sick”.
Sometimes it is necessary and good to have nothing on the agenda for the weekend. I really need to deep clean but I like to do that while I am taking down decor and it’s a big project and hard to do with puppy under foot. So, it will get done.
Airbnb – as much as I love it – is very overwhelming to me and I overthink my decisions!

  3. I hope Tom feels better and that the rest of you stay healthy! EO with the margarita is the best. I recognize the Halara jeans; they look great on you! I do think you and Kate (the middle one, right?) favor! Yay for new Kate Spade earrings! I got a necklace from Kendra Scott; it has a J and a pearl stone. I also got a candle warmer, some coffee table books, my favorite bright post-it notes and a book sock, a lighted tree, some journals, a calendar, and a pink heart shaped pillow with bows on it for my bed. I felt very seen and loved. I have been on a show kick this weekend and binge watched the latest three seasons of Selling Sunset. It’s so trashy, but it’s like a trainwreck that I can’t stop watching. Their lives are so baffling to me, but I love looking at the real estate properties and seeing how the wealthy live. It’s on Netflix.

    1. Thank you! Our house isn’t that big and his presence seems to be in the middle of the house if that makes sense. Lol. He did go to work. I sent him with a bag of cough drops and pushed him out the door. Ahhhhh. I’m so mean!
I love the black Halaras and have worn them so much. I really don’t want to wear other jeans now. Thank you! I am trying to get back on track with healthier habits. I agree that Kate and I look more alike. We look more like our Dad and Molly more like our mom.
You are the one that reminded me I had those and lost one! Thank you!
Oh, I love her necklaces! That is so nice!
Your people know you! Those are all things you love.
Yes to trashy tv sometimes! It’s like a guilty pleasure that doesn’t hurt anyone.
I hope you have a nice day planned today!

  5. Sounds like a good weekend. Sorry your Saturday plans were changed, yet it provided another day for y’all. I think your sister’s saying is wise that we do more relaxing the week after Christmas than before. Good point. Love you had time with family and a good friend!

  6. I loved reading about your Christmas fun. So sorry that Tom was sick. Your former student’s store is awesome. Love your gifts. We watched the hallmark football movie at my mom’s – she had inside scoop. Haha where some of it was filmed, and one of her good friends – you could see her in the background of a few scenes.

  9. I hope your husband is soon feeling better. There is nothing worse than a man cold! And, they call us drama queens! We did pizza for Christmas which was a bit of a snafu, but it all worked out. No one went hungry. I’m almost done with packing Christmas away. My oldest will come over later this week to help me get it into the crawlspace (gosh, do I miss my basement…I could do it all myself then). How cool your mom got you the Starbucks mugs you wanted. It’s a good thing you didn’t order them. I know you’re a few inches taller than me so did you get a petite in the Halara jeans? I’m still dillydallying about them!

  10. I love it that EO grabbed his margerita but couldn’t accompany you for a drink – HA HA, just love it!

I’m a bit envious about your sisters, being an only child it makes me wonder… I’m so happy that my daughters enjoy each other’s company so much, that was really a big wish for me! They are 3 years apart, but have always played and had fun together. 23-year is leaving for Austin, Texas in two days to study at Austin University! I’m trying to cope with my feelings I must admit… I’m so happy for her, but… I will sure miss her!

Enjoy your last days of the break! I will spend it reading your blog amongst other things! 😀

    1. Isn’t he advanced? My child is gifted! That’s a common joke in the US!
Unfortunately, we don’t get to see each other much. But, we do have a good time together most of the time. I talk on the phone to one of them about 5 times a week.
You will continue to love seeing them close. Maybe they will be like the sisters you never had and include you!
Oh wow – for a semester? What is she studying? Did she apply for a graduate program? I really want to go to Austin because our favorite singer is from there and performs there all the time – Bob Schneider if you care to look him up.
Thank you! It’s great to have you back more regularly!

      1. “Maybe they will be like the sisters you never had and include you”, thank you Amy, that was such a sweet comment!

Yes, she’s coming home again in the middle of May. She’s a graduate in computer engineering (she’s the brain in the family) and she’s on an exchange program. I showed her Bob Schneider and now she’s very proud to know a local singer! How fun if she sees him live!
