It’s Wednesday and time to link up with Joyce for her fun hodgepodge!
1. What’s one thing you want to get done before the calendar flips to a new year?
I probably say this every year, but…declutter. I hope to have some time and motivation to go through some spaces and get some donations together.
2. What’s something that brought a smile to your face this year?
So much! I am thinking of writing a 2024 in review post. My sweet old dog Ernie in the last 3 months of his life, my new puppy Eddie Otis, my kids, Tom, my students, my friends, pretty scenes in nature and out and about. I am quicker to tears these days but I think I am also quicker to smiles, if that makes sense?
3. What do you like on a cracker? Do you have a favorite cracker variety?
Cheese! Dips! I am an appetizer person, for sure. I am into Nut Thins and Triscuit thins right now. Have you seen that funny meme about Triscuits? “I always wondered what it would taste like to chew on a wicker chair” or something like that?
4. Do you have plans for ringing in the new year in a fun or special way? Are you typically awake at midnight on the last day of the year?
I don’t think I have stayed up until midnight in a few years. The last few we have gone to dinner with our best friends and been home well before midnight. It’s midnight somewhere, right? This looks interesting to me for this year:

5. What are three words that describe your 2024?
Oh gosh that is hard – change, bravery, mindset?
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I had no gifts purchased as of December 7th and now I am almost done. It always comes together. I wasn’t stressed at all. Isn’t that a metaphor for life…”it always comes together”.
What would you say to one of the hodgepodge questions?
Amy
It always comes together is the perfect metaphor for life. I was just thinking that this morning.

isn’t it? I am glad you are also experiencing that.

Mindset is everything! I also love Triscuits and said that as my favorite cracker. I love crackers with cheese and dips too, even though I didn’t say dips with my own answer to this on my blog. Those are great words for your year!

yes! love them! Have you tried the thins? I think to have them more as lunches in the summer with something. Thank you!

It always does come together, doesn’t it? I swear I chuckle when I hear people say they’re stressed – I know no one who has ever said, yeah I dropped the ball and didn’t have gifts to give!
Happy Wednesday!

I know – and stressed about gifts is definitely a first world problem.

Quick to tears and smiles – I totally get that. Good job on shopping! I felt good by Dec 10 which was my goal. All I have left is a few gift cards to buy. Losing Ernie but getting EO. That was us with Shiloh and then Homer. Bittersweet but Homer was definitely a blessing to us.

it’s probably the perimenopause! Thank you! I do need to go shop in person this weekend or Monday. Right? it’s really a metaphor for life.

I like a new year celebration at 6 PM so that would be fun for me. I am not a late night person. My saying for a number of years, and one I would say to my girls often is ‘every little thing is going to be okay’ because it usually is. Or we learn to cope with something new and that’s okay too. Good for you on the shopping! I know you’re on the countdown to the school break now so enjoy!

Right? I agree! That is so true. Tom has really helped me on the shopping front, too. He is thoughtful and has good ideas.

I’m not a stay up until midnight either.
Our son and daughter-in-law usually host a New Year’s Eve party at their house that we attend, but this year they are hoping to have welcomed their new baby by then. So of-course there won’t be a party.

We are rarely awake for New Year’s either. One year I started reading The Silent Patient on New Year’s Eve and finished it the next morning. It was a really relaxing way to celebrate! 🥳🥂 I’m not a fan of being out on the road with potential drunk drivers.

oh wow! That is crazy fast and a long book. I feel the same. It scares me and I like to be home but 10 if not before.

Yes to the decluttering! I tend to try to declutter this time of year more than I do “spring cleaning”. Have a good day!

I usually make my 40 bags for 40 days list in January or February. I would like to do it earlier this year!

You know, it always DOES come together, doesn’t it? I know I probably won’t get a couple things but what everyone does get with be enough.

I agree…it always comes together. I’m the Queen of Procrastinators so I don’t worry (much) about things getting done in time. As you can tell, I’ll be up at midnight on New Year’s Eve…not that I’ll be doing anything. I will have to remember to pad Jack’s crate really well because I know there will be fireworks at midnight. I think your three words are very true.

It does – or you give up things on your list! I am not a procrastinator but sometimes if I wait things out a bit they come together better. Poor baby!
