Ok, it’s a two day week! I am happy to link up with Sarah and Holly to share my weekend. How was yours? Were you frantically running around doing holiday stuff? I was not. I placed most of my stuff in a grocery order for pick up last Thursday.

Friday at school was cold! I had this roaring fire on my panel and some kids came up and warmed their hands and it made me chuckle. I still have my laptop hooked to a projector and use that daily in addition to this panel. I’m an old dog and I can learn new tricks but this set up is working for me.

No happy hour after school. I came home and spent time with Eddie Otis and then cooked a frozen pizza for Tom and I. We were the only ones home.

I took Fiona Ferris’ tips and got dressed for the grocery Saturday morning. I had a few little odds and ends to get that weren’t on my order Thursday and I thought I would browse any seasonal offerings. I hadn’t been in the grocery in I don’t know how long. I saw zero people I knew because I looked decent. Usually I see at least five people I know!

I picked this up!

And, I saw this cute mug and grabbed it for myself, too.

I went home and unloaded groceries and then just piddled around until 3:00. I did some laundry, some cleaning, and some straightening. I vacuumed, too. But, I had already gotten ready for the 3:00 activity, so it was nice to have that done.

Tom and I went to the German American Club’s Christkindlmrkt!

Yes, we saw some lederhosen! I had some gluhwein (warmed red wine)!

It was pretty cool outside but it added to the atmosphere.

They had booths of people selling things – not necessarily all German things -some could just be used for holiday gifts – but we did see a person from our beloved German restaurant that closed – the daughter of the owners was selling t-shirts and said she is writing a cookbook of the restaurant’s recipes. She also said she does some special orders. Guess who ordered a Thanksgiving apple strudel? Tom! We were excited.

A young girl had a pop up clothing and accessory booth and we talked and she told me about her website.

This cute sweatshirt came home with me! It says “The North Pole Cocktail Club”.

Our friends were supposed to go to the German market with us but something came up – they still met us for dinner after at Monnik Beer Company which has some German food. One of the owners is Dutch so some of the food is Dutch, too. The food is really good and the vibe is great, too.

Yesterday morning I started with my new devotional book…

And, I studied more about how to have a “soft, calm life”. Eddie Otis wanted to have a “hard, excited life”. We compromised.

And, those are the highlights of my weekend. I was glad not to be too busy.

I feel like both holidays are really melding together so instead of trying to fight it, I am also joining in!

I plan to post all or most days this week, by the way.

I am making a bundt cake for our school friendsgiving this week. The school is providing the meats and each department has certain things to bring, including breakfast items. We will have both breakfast and lunch available. My bundt cake will be a box spice cake mix (with my tricks – extra egg, sub butter for the oil) with a homemade cream cheese frosting.

Thursday we go to Tom’s sister’s house and I am in charge of a pumpkin pie, a pecan or Derby pie, and mashed potatoes. I bought a bag of Yukon Gold because they are already so creamy and ain’t nobody got time to peel. I don’t mind peeling because I have an amazing peeler (not a flex), but thought I would try this from TelloandRose on IG:

Friday we go to my mom’s and I am in charge of Jiffy corn casserole and a green salad. Here is the salad:

How are you feeling?

Don’t forget to go back and read my post whether you are a host or a guest – What To Wear, Say, Bring, Do for Thanksgiving!

  1. That sounds like a fun and relaxing weekend. We had a very low key weekend here too but did get up extra early to hit the grocery store yesterday (mostly just for our regular food since I only needed potatoes for Thanksgiving). It was already so crazy busy by 7 am but I knew it would be.

      1. Oops! LOL. I might end up having to go back for some fresh fruit on Wednesday since I promised the boys to make pumpkin pancakes Wednesday night and I like to serve it with fresh fruit but I’m hoping we can make what we bought last until then. Luckily we have a stop and shop near us that hardly anyone ever goes to (since prices are so much higher) but they do make the perfect place to drop in for a quick mid-week restock when I don’t want to deal with the crowds.

      2. yeah, I was gonna say to just go to the small market for that! it’s really hard to get enough food for that many days I think. I can’t do it!

  2. What a great weekend! I’m placing my Kroger order today but looks like my Kroger doesn’t have that chobani flavor yet. I hope they get it! All your German fun looks like a great way to spend a Saturday. I decided to do a little shopping on Saturday. I looked like a troll so I was glad not to see anybody I knew 😂 two days. We can do it

    1. it was! I bet it wasn’t on my app either but I went in and it was in the middle case where they do seasonal things. it’s really good! It was great! I have noticed our shopping areas are so busy so I don’t want to do that on a Saturday if I can help it. you never look troll-like. I sure hope we can!

  3. The German Christmas market sounds fun – we love German food and I bet that strudel is amazing! We decorated for Christmas this weekend and we’re hosting Thanksgiving. I don’t think anyone will care – but I really want to spend this weekend enjoying my family and not doing all the busy stuff!

    That green salad sounds good!

    1. We never made it to the food line – I could have gone for a big pretzel! yes, no one will care! I did my mantle and a tablecloth. Keeping it minimal bc of the pup. I’m not hosting so wasn’t worried about that but my mom has her Christmas out already and we are going there.

  4. Yay for a short work week! The German market looks fun and festive. I went to Kroger last night for just a few things and it was crazy. I can’t imagine how this week will be, if there is anything left on the shelves. That is a great devotion book and I may read through that again next year. Enjoy your Friendsgiving meal!

  5. The German Christmas market sounds like something straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie! I’m excited to go to a Christmas market the Saturday after next. It’s in a nearby town, and I’m going with my best friend. It’ll be fun to spend a whole day together, since we rarely see each other these days. The green salad you’re making sounds delicious! I had a really good salad for dinner last night and ate every bite. Yay for two day work weeks!

  6. I was laughing about EO wanting a hard, excited life. Ha! Mollie is so rough and tumble, much more than any other puppy we’ve had. She is keeping me on my toes! It sounds like a great weekend. The German market sounds so fun. We have a German festival here, but I have heard it is big and has gotten so commercialized that its not really German anymore. Isn’t it so true that you only run into people when you’re not looking your best? Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. I love that you have a German market. You’re mention of apple strudel brought back memories of my grandma baking it for us every year for Christmas and Easter.

    Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

  8. I love a good German Christmas market and a good German restaurant too. And of course apple strudel : ) I agree the holidays are crossing lanes this year so might as well embrace it.

  9. I think I have everything I need for Thursday…except I’m not sure if my oldest is bringing a pecan pie or not. I also do need to get a small pumpkin pie for my grandson. I’m hoping to go to the Christkindlmrkt in Carmel this year. My hairstylist told me it’s nuts, but I like nuts so we’ll see. It’s always nice to be told what to bring. Since there are only ten of us, Thanksgiving and Christmas are fairly low key.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
