I am linking up with Joyce!

1. How did you meet your significant other? If you don’t have a significant other, tell us how you met your best friend.

I was 25 and my roommate and bestie Heather had just started dating a guy from Louisville. We lived in Lexington (about an hour away). We were convinced it was time to date a guy who was 30 because 20 something guys were too immature. Lol! Heather invited me to go on a boat with her boyfriend’s friends (which turned out to be a brand new 53 foot yacht that Tom’s now brother in law was allowed to use because it was for sale) and meet this 30 year old lawyer who was friends with her new boyfriend who was also 30. This is so ridiculous! I showed up at the boat and Tom was also there and I got in trouble for talking to Tom instead of the lawyer. Heather kept saying, ‘”go talk to the lawyer”. The rest is history! I didn’t talk to the lawyer much but kept migrating back to Tom and Tom was 30. And, Heather is also married to the friend of Tom’s!

2. It’s Department Store Day (October 16)…do you still shop in department stores? If not do you miss that kind of shopping experience? Do you have a favorite department store? Any fun memories of department store shopping when you were a child?

I go in Macy’s and Von Maur because those are the two we have. I am from a small town so we didn’t have one. They are a bit overwhelming for me. I prefer small shops. I really feel weird shopping in person now. I like to go do it once in a while, but online shopping has changed me, I think.

3. Something you’re currently nuts about?

My two super soft oversized sweatshirts. I want to put them on every morning and every evening after my shower. I don’t like a hood and I don’t want a zipper.

4. What’s your favorite nut and is there a favorite recipe where this nut is used?

I hate nuts! I have never liked nuts! That is a sure way to keep me away from a dessert. I love peanuts and pistachios but I don’t think those are true nuts.

5. On Wednesday we officially reach the ’70 days until Christmas’ mark. Have you purchased any gifts? If you don’t celebrate Christmas then how about Hanukkah presents?

Wow! That’s hard to believe. No! I usually don’t even start until after Thanksgiving and manage to get it all done just fine. We have reduced gift giving in our family and only give to grandparents but some years we do a Secret Santa, too. I will ask my sisters if they want to do this for this year.

I am off the day before Thanksgiving and do like to do my minimal decorating that day so that when I come home from Thanksgiving – poof! It’s Christmas. I will have to be very minimal with a new puppy. But, we are also excited for his first Christmas and his first snow! Hopefully!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I really want to be a person who enjoys January this year. If you enjoy it, how do you do this? I need tips. It’s long and cold and boring and school is hard in January. It try to get all hygge and decorate in blue and white and twinkle lights.

Happy Hump Day to you!

Amy

  1. What a fun look back at how you met! I don’t remember meeting my husband… he was just always sort of there. I love nearly all nuts but not in baked goods (other than chocolate chip pecan pie).

  2. Loved reading how you met Tom! It was meant to be!

I try to plan fun things for January because it’s tough after all the holiday glitz and fun. Our oldest son has his birthday in January and that makes it special too!

  3. Dang, Tom was ripped, so no wonder you kept going back to him! 🤣 I appreciate this now because of my son Drew; I know how hard it is to get those lines and veins going on in your upper arms and shoulders. He is very proud of his! I loved hearing your story, I think it’s the first time I’ve heard it. I do think January can be hard, but I never seem to mind it. I just do all the things that I normally do, but if it snows this year, I’m in trouble. I don’t leave my house when there’s snow on the ground, and someone was always here to drive me around. I’m dreading that part, and Marilyn and I were talking about this last weekend. She mentioned going somewhere to stay if that happens, and I’ll have to count on Jonah. This is one of those weird moments in thinking of what my future life will look like…

Anyway, I hope you have a great day, my friend!

    1. Ha ha! I was in really great shape, too! so, when my boys were really little they saw a picture and asked if i liked dad for his muscles. lol. he has chicken legs, though, and he was jealous of my calf muscles.
Well, the problem with memphis, too, is that like us, you get ice. I do not drive in Ice! It would be cool if you and Marilyn could do a beach trip in Jan like Marilyn commented about going somewhere warm. Maybe soon i will have the freedom to travel in january! one of your sons will step up and you are good at finding things to do at home. i think you will be just fine. but, yes, i know that is playing into your new normal/future.
      you too!

  4. I have learned to like pecans, but nuts will for sure keep me from a dessert too! The past few years I have taken a trip in January, so maybe I will do that again this year, but it has to be to a warm location :).

  5. I like your how we met story. Some things are meant to be. As far as January goes I like to have a couple of books to read, maybe something a little bit deeper than a beach read because I have the time. A new cozy blanket. Tell myself I don’t have to be super productive because it’s a month of quiet beauty and rest. I kind of give in to that. We’re so busy the rest of the year. We’re not tv bingers, but we sometimes binge a show in January. And bundle up for some walks. Sunlight and Vitamin D are key to surviving January! I struggle more with March. I can embrace winter in January but by March I want summer.

    1. thank you! It was sillly that it all stemmed from wanting older guys. I wish i enjoyed reading inside but i just turn to tv in the colder months. bad habit. yes, even a sunny day helps so much. And, getting out to go to school helps even though it’s so cold and I want to hibernate.

  6. Oh heck no – I HATE January. So I’d love to know some tips on how not to feel all sad. Holidays are over, it’s cold, bills from the holidays are due. No thanks!

    1. Not trying to start a fight with any pistachio farmers! I love them.
“Pistachios are not true botanical nuts. They are the edible seeds of pistachio tree fruit. “
      Calm down! Lol!

  7. I love the picture of you and Tom! What a great story of how you met. I was just thinking about how we’re going to manage the Christmas tree with Mollie. It will be a challenge!

  8. That is a fun how you met story! What happened to the lawyer? I love VonMaur…there are so few of them…but they have the best stuff! We have a good mall fairly close to us and lots of Old Navy stores close by, too. I need to break up with ON soon!

I don’t have any tips for January. I remember dreading January and February because the days just seemed to drag. After you retire, those things will all change. If you want to stay in your cozy fuzzy jammies all day, you can! I think I’m going to London in January next year.

    1. it’s silly! We are lucky to have one at my fave mall. i can be there in 5 minutes. i am trying to buy more quality but honestly on has impressed me lately.
i hope that is the solution to me hating january. i am going to try hard to not hate it this year.

  9. Ha! Love how you met. I feel the same way about sweatshirts..no hood and prefer no zipper. Oh my NO. NUTS? lol. I love them so much I can’t imagine not loving them. I liked your answer to 6…I live in the PNW and late fall/winter/spring, can often be very dreary, wet, cold…I try hard to make things cozy inside and do things, read things that just make me feel cozy. I can’t change what is happening on the outside, but I can make changes inside my home. On that note, I saw your Friday post and that non fiction book looks good.
