Well that went by quickly! I am linking up with Sarah and Holly for Hello Monday as I lament the weekend gone too quickly.

It felt like summer again here. How about where you are? We had high 80s. We only had rain on Friday and it cleared up before the end of the school day.

Thursday evening I did a new press on mani in this blush color:

Friday was a good day and afterwards Erica and I went to Osteria for just one drink. We also had their skinny little fries. We sat on their lovely enclosed patio and watched it fill up with people ready to start the weekend! They have a great happy hour . I had an old fashioned for $8 and Erica had a half price glass of wine.

While I was there I got a call that our friends wanted us to meet them for dinner at a pizza place so Tom picked me up at home and we went there. I didn’t take a single photo. I got a single slice of pizza which is a nice option and only ate half of it (spoiler – I had the other half for dinner the next night). We got home around 8:00 and I watched a bit of The Perfect Couple and a bit of Mormon wives. I finished Mormon wives and was relieved. I’m taking my time with The Perfect Couple.

Saturday I went to my hometown to take my mom to lunch for her birthday. We ate at a cute little rock and roll themed restaurant that was new to me.

I went in a few boutiques and I walked out of this one with a new dress and a new blouse.

It was a nice day.

I told my mom about my book The Women (about an army nurse in Vietname) and asked her about my dad’s time in Vietnam. Did you know Vietnam lasted from 1955-1975? I didn’t. She couldn’t remember his exact time, but then I found the information…

We found my dad’s diary from his time there which was June of 1969 until June of 1970 according to the front cover. I had read it before but I asked my Mom if I could re-read it after I finish The Women so I brought it home with me.

I think it will be interesting to read it again.

Saturday night both Tom and I were beat from our days – he had taken a 30 mile bike ride, taken EO swimming in the river, and done some chores and I had taken a little road trip and picked up groceries on the way back. So, we both ate our leftovers and just stayed in. I also started Emily in Paris or should I say Emily in Rome? Someone told me she goes to Rome in these latest released episodes so now I am telling you.

Sunday morning I got up and did some meal prepping for the week and did my laundry and some closet organization.

Then, Tom, EO and I went out on the boat. EO is starting to get very hard to handle on the boat so I wouldn’t say it’s very relaxing and I also told Tom that I want to leave him at home next time. I know that he needs to keep going to get better, but also he is in his teenager stage. I have to hold him on a leash and he tries to eat the leash, eat the boat ropes, eat the boat fenders, open the cooler, chew on the cooler, chew on me, my boat bag, my towel. We parked at Captain’s Quarters and he did settle down pretty well while we ordered and ate.

We didn’t stay out long because Tom’s grass was calling to him. He needed to mow it and not do anything else is what I mean!

I read on the patio for a bit before continuing to tidy and ready for the week.

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Amy

  1. What a full weekend. Your dad’s diary …wow! What a treasure. EO on the boat acting like a teen 🤣 hopefully he can get it together. Haha
I hope you have a great week. I wish it would start feeling like fall!

    1. Yes! I know – I am enjoying reading it and it’s not making me sad, but rather it is showing me just how routine he always was and it’s making me smile.
Yeah, EO on the boat was not relaxing. Just keeping it real. We didn’t have the boat until Ernie was 2 so he was immediately an angel on the boat but maybe a little nervous? So, EO is not afraid at all which is the good side of things.
I hope you do, too! I know!

  2. I finally finished The Women. It took me some time to get through, such a heavy story. I bet your dad’s diary is amazing, what a gift that is! I have learned so much about the Vietnam War recently that I was never aware of. I look at Vets so differently now.

    1. It is and I did think it could have been shorter. There was a point that it was really dragging. I agree! I wish I had been more interesting when I could have asked him questions.

  3. You guys got summer again while we were dealing with colder weather! We had to get out the jackets and winter clothes once more. Luckily, I’ve learned my lesson from previous years and haven’t packed them away yet. Your dad’s diary must be an amazing read, his handwriting is beautiful!

  4. I started, and finished, Inventing Anna on Netflix. It was fascinating at first but then became irritating so I hurried it along. It did not get any better. Sounds like y’all had a great weekend! We had dinner out on Saturday w/ our son and DIL. The food was delicious but my French 75 cocktail was way too strong and I had trouble keeping my head up. Times sure have changed! Have a great week!

  5. I just have 2 episodes left of this season of Emily in Paris so she must be going to Rome soon… I am loving that it’s not all in Paris this season though. She spends some time in the French Alps too and it looks so pretty! We had some nice and much warmer weather this weekend too; luckily it was only in the lower 80’s though so not too hot since we worked on emptying everything out of my parents’ house yesterday. That day with your mom sounds so fun and I can’t wait to see what you bought!

  6. It feels like summer here again after being teased with some beautiful cool days 😕 The highlight of my weekend was going to Oklahoma for parents weekend with my youngest daughter. Seeing her always makes me happy!

  7. How sweet that you have your dad’s diary to read again after reading such a great book. What a gift that is! I love seeing things written in my dad’s handwriting; you may feel the same way. Oh, the teenage years phase with a puppy…Chloe is also in that phase and makes all crazy sometimes. She’s never been much of a chewer, thankfully, but I see why you would want to leave him at home the next time. The highlight of my weekend was Friday night with Marilyn! I can never explain what her friendship means to me. I’m so thankful that God crossed our paths when He did, because it’s wonderful having someone so close who knows what my life feels like. I hope you have a great Monday, my friend!

  8. That’s really cool about your dad’s journal! 30 miles on the bike; good for him. My husband and I did 15; we are training up for a 35 mile ride in a few weeks. I am sure we’ll get there but it feels like a lot.

  9. It has felt warmer here too! Not full on summer weather but warmer than it was over the last week.
    Your nails look so pretty.
It sounds like a great Friday evening.
What a lovely time you had with your mom.
Oh wow! I had no idea Vietnam lasted so long. Your dad’s diary looks so interesting and how special to have it.
EO sounds like a bit of a handful on the boat.

  10. Sounds like a nice weekend. I’d love to read a diary of my dads from Vietnam. What a treasure to have! I’m not a fan of having our dog on the boat either. He’s 9 now but we generally leave him at home. He spends the whole ride trying to figure out how he can get in the water. Still!! He’s fair on the kayaks…we let him swim a lot before we kayak. He is excellent on the paddle board.

  11. I’m so glad you have your dad’s diary from his time in VietNam. So many vets from that time don’t like to talk about it. Mike’s brother didn’t talk about it much at all. My dad was in the Korean War, and I was too dumb to ever ask him about it. I wish I knew what his experience had been like.

My weekend was hot…my oldest son and I laid down close to 50 bags of mulch to fill in spots where we had curbing installed. It was hot, but at least it wasn’t humid. That was about all I could do.
