Today is my mom’s birthday! Happy birthday, mom!

I am linking up with Andrea and Erika to talk about some things that made me happy this week.

First up, some new tv…

I actually started both over the weekend, but came back to them during the week.

This is crazy:

Is anyone watching it? The wives are so, so, so young and they all look alike. It is literally like watching clones. I can’t look away. I don’t like it, but I feel like I am an anthropologist studying this strange species. Also, they really need to cut down on their soda consumption.

I also started this:

I love the choreographed dance the characters do in the intro. I totally forgot what the book was about so it’s all new to me again!

Little/Big Stinker:

He is “helping with dishes”. Look at that big ol’ paw. He needs a nail trim badly. Tom has always done our dogs’ nails but this guy is too much for Tom. He is going to try one more time before we call in a professional.

Monday morning and he was waiting to be crated at 7:30…He’s learning the routine. He gets crated for a bit before Mason gets up. He’s been up since 5:30 by this time and is ready for a little morning nap. He looks so little in this picture compared to the above photo.

I wanted to share these:

I plan to treat myself to a coffee this morning because I have walked to and fro’ work all week long. The mornings have just been amazing. The afternoons are fine, but my back sweats a little bit under my backpack and I am dragging on the way home. Lol!

What’s your coffee order?

Erica and I have killed it in the lunch department this week.

I made zucchini lasagna bowls:

You really don’t miss the noodles!

And, I made Asian ground turkey bowls that were both family dinner one night and our lunch one day. The family got regular rice and E and I got cauliflower rice for lunch.

Erica made buffalo chicken bowls with quinoa, zoodles with marinara and shrimp, and Mediterranean couscous bowls.

I also prepped for the week with my Mcmuffins and put them in the freezer.

Honestly, I am still finding my groove with all the food planning and prep. It’s important to me and it’s too expensive to get take out so I want to do it.

We had a meeting and were gifted a “pencil”:

If you give me something I will feel a little better about your meeting that could have and should have been an email.

Letting my natural nails breathe this week:

So ugly, but I am thankful that I am not damaging my nails with press ons like I did with dip and gel. I think it was mainly the removal process.

I am intrigued by this apple salsa recipe that came in the Kroger flyer:

I was thinking about doing a whole post on things I was wrong about, but I will go ahead and say this one.

I think I was wrong about Merit. I bought this last November. It’s really great for travel. I have the bronzer stick, the foundation stick and the blush and the brush that came with the starter set. I don’t love the blush color so I am thinking about getting a new one at Sephora. Yes, Merit is sold at Sephora. If you are looking for a very quick face routine, it’s pretty good. I still love my Seint, but it does take a bit longer.

It’s still the same general concept of applying and blending with your brush. I tried to put on full face foundation the other day and threw it away. It was so thick and gross.

What are you all doing for makeup? I love when I find a product that I really love!

Well, I cannot express to you how happy I am that it is Friday! I think we have a rainy weekend coming, but we really do need the rain.

  1. Happy birthday to your mom! I couldn’t remember much about the book either but I really enjoyed The Perfect Couple– after I finished it I did Google to see what was changed from the book the movie because I was starting to remember more of the story and a bit of the ending wasn’t lining up with what I remembered.

  2. We just got the heavy rain yesterdaiy and seems we will see a little bit more scattered, but we did need some rain. I think natural nails are nice too! The zuchinni lasagna looks pretty good. A friend just asked me last night if I had seen The Perfect Couple. My go to drink at Starbucks is usually just a hot tea, so not too exciting! Hope you have a restful weekend and good for you for all the walking this week!

    1. I am sitting on the patio listening to the rain right now! My fave kind of morning! You should get an electric tea kettle if you like tea. I think it’s really nice to have at home, too! I hope you do, too! The walking meant I didn’t go anywhere or spend any money! Lol!

  3. The back stories of the Mormon wives are 1 million times more interesting than what was on the show. For example, Demi’s Husband was married to Angie Herrington from real housewives of Salt Lake. He was friends with. Demi and her then husband, and they signed him up to be on Claire’s season of the bachelorette. He was selected, but the season was canceled due to Covid. By the time the show figured they could quarantine everyone at a resort and do the show that way, he was already divorced again and started dating Demi, Who was in the middle of her divorce. I wish they would showcase each of the women individually and their families. I promise I’m not searching this info, all my podcast shows I listen to on my work commute have been talking about Mormon wives all week! Haha

  4. Happy birthday to your mum! My mum would have been 96 on the 15th of September. I haven’t watched The Perfect Couple yet, but it’s definitely on my list. Your food always makes me hungry, and the zucchini lasagne looks delicious. Yum! Have a great weekend!

  6. Happy Birthday to your mom! Kudos on the meal prepping- you are crushing it! For makeup in the fall, I tend to just wear a darker lipstick and of course, sport darker nails- have a great weekend!

  7. I need to check out Mormon Wives. I saw The Perfect Couple, it was good! So glad you shared those lower sugar Starbuck drinks, I am going to try a few.

I haven’t tried Merit yet, I would like to but I am afraid I’ll get hooked and it’s more expensive than my Wet N Wild foundation!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. You may not like it. I don’t know if I can finish it.
Treat yourself to a drink! I was going to, but I think I have hit my caffeine limit already!
I know that drugstore works for many but I just end up tossing it. I do like my ELF brow stuff but for me paying a little more pays off in the end for everything else.

  8. I started The Perfect Couple last weekend as well, and like you, have totally forgotten the book. I may watch more this weekend. I get it about the makeup! I’ve been able to keep using the less expensive products from Amazon and Ulta, which I’m glad for, and I do stick with what I know works for now. I always use the Elf brand primer of some sort; I’ve used a glowy one before, but now I’m using one with extra hydration. I mix one pump of that with a tinted moisturizer with SPF. For now with my skin being what it is, this works, but I don’t expect that forever. I set it all with pressed powder that is translucent.

I hope you have a great weekend, my friend!

    1. I have found for me that the products that cost a little bit most last soooo long and don’t have me looking for the next best thing. Charlottoe Tillbury pot eyeshadow is one. I’ve been using the same eyeliner (an eyeshadow palette and a tiny brush – Laura Geller) for 8 years!

  9. Happy birthday to your mom!
I have heard about The Secret Lives or Mormon wives and it sounds interesting and I keep reading about The Perfect Couple, I need to watch both.
That is really interesting about the less sugar at Starbucks! At the moment my order is a pumpkin spice latte with cream.

  10. fun fact. I was born on Friday the 13th and so was my mom. Mine is March 13 and hers is November 13. This is a lucky day for us!! Also – another fun fact: i wear Epicuren 45 sun screen and mascara. That is all i wear for makeup! I’m 60 and my esthetician says my skin is amazing so there’s something to be said for no make up! Thankfully Tony loves me just as i am!! No make up girlie for life!! I also do not do my nails so they’re “ugly” as you say but they’re also so healthy! I do get gel pedis but i love the winter time when i take the gel off and let my toes breathe!

    1. That is cool!
      Never heard of that brand!
I don’t mean yours are ugly – never seen them! I think some people have beautiful natural nails but I don’t think mine are included in that!

      1. lol i know you didn’t mean mine! I have short stubby nails and fingers but I’m
Ok with it! I dearly hate appointments and I have no desire to try to do my own nails. I live heavyweights and I play golf three times a week and I walked every day and I get pedicures every three weeks with Tony that is enough for me, lol Epicuren is a great skin care brandAnd their 45 spf is amazing! It just makes your skin glow. It’s not cheap however- but the brand is a really good one (IMO)

  11. today we had to take our son to an oncologist (he is 15). As we were walking across the parking lot I found a penny. I immediately thought of you and your dad. I scooped it up as fast as I could. We were able to walk out with great relief. The hematologist & oncologist think he had mono and is healing from that.

  12. Happy, happy birthday to your mom! I haven’t seen the Mormon show, but we finished The Perfect Couple the other night. I read the book, and nothing about the show even reminded me of it. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t close in some ways; it just means I have no recall of the book. I did think it focused more on the engaged couple than Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber (why, oh, why didn’t he shave at least once). I am so glad I’m not a coffee drinker! I have even cut diet coke out and drink iced water with a bit of Crystal Light lemonade to flavor it (which is not good for me either). Our dog’s nails grow so quickly, but he does need a grooming.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
