I’m linking up with Sarah and Holly for Hello Monday and with the gals at Share Our Lives for their theme “Day in the Life – Summer Edition”. Lots of linking up today!

So, first for the weekend…

Thursday was 4th of July and it was really lame at my house. Mason was at a party, Jack didn’t feel well and went to bed early, and Tom went to bed at 8:15! He still had to work Friday and was extra tired from the night before, I think. Lame, I tell you! But, before this we had a day of storms and I just read my books and piddled around. Mason and I tried to go to a little 4th of July market, but it wasn’t set up yet. For dinner we had hot dogs, baked beans, and mac and cheese along with a side salad. Oh, and Tom and I watched Unfrosted and we both really liked it!

Mason, “Mom, I don’t think this is a thing”

We had these really good hot dogs from the butcher case at Fresh Market.

Friday was a normal work day for Tom so I got him out the door and then we had to take a car in the shop, pick up groceries, and do a few chores. Mason and I went to lunch after dropping off the car.

Friday night we picked up the car and then we used up all of the week’s leftovers and all had something slightly different. Yay! That made me so happy!

Saturday morning Tom paddle boarded on the river beside our friend who was practicing his swimming for the Iron Man.

I tried to learn more about how to be chic..

while it just came naturally for Eddie Otis…

Then, I took EO down to meet Tom when he got off the paddle board and then we pretty spontaneously decided to take the boat out and called some spontaneous friends, too!

We at lunch at Captain’s Quarters and then…

Best foto of the weekend… I only wish Tom would cradle me in the water like this…

We went in around 4:00 and Door Dashed some sushi and a chicken teriyaki bowl with our kids.

I finished up Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and I actually cried in a couple of the episodes. I thought it was really well done and it gave me an interesting peak into something I knew very little about.

I decided to give up on Our Lady Jane but Tom is finishing it – I sometimes am reading while he has it on. I’m so lost.

I realized Friday night that I really need to be asleep by 10 because puppy is ready to go at 6 am. Mason had him sleep with him Friday night and I woke up Saturday feeling like a new person! Also, the humidity broke overnight and it felt so nice! Yes, we are probably doing the puppy training all wrong.

And, Sunday, we had another boat day with some other friends and just hung in the cove. It was so nice!

We were pooped and got home around 4:00 again. I made dinner and showered. Whew! So much summering this weekend!

And, now for a Day in the Life…

I will be doing a day in the life of Summer Amy, by the way…

I get up anywhere from 5-6:15. If I had my dream summer schedule I would get up at 7:00 but it’s just not that season for me right now.

I feed Eddie Otis and then we go to the patio.

I read my devotional and a few blogs and then if I am able I go ahead and finish up my post for the next day.

Tom leaves for work around 7:40 if it’s a weekday so we see him off (he usually does a quick playground walk with EO – we have an elementary playground behind our house and can do a lap around the school with our dogs pretty easily) and then I usually take EO inside and we do a few kitchen chores – straightening up or whatever needs to be done.

Then, we take a neighborhood leash walk and I listen to podcasts or talk on the phone. This is usually 8-8:30 or maybe a bit longer.

It looks like we are out in the country but this is my neighborhood which is less than 10 miles from downtown Louisville.

We go back home and pup is tired and hot. This is when he naps in his dog wash in the mudroom.

I do more chores and make my breakfast. Some days I go to the patio to eat but I go out my bedroom door so I don’t wake the sleeping puppy!

I often do some food prep for dinnertime in the morning, too.

Now I go shower and get ready for the day – sometimes that is swimsuit and coverup, sometimes it’s keep on the bike shorts and big tee, and sometimes it’s a little nicer errand running/eating lunch out attire.

I usually try to take EO out again and play with him when he wakes up around 9:30 or 10.

Then, he is either with one of my kids or he gets crated for a little bit. He is usually in major need of crate time by now and acting kind of crazy. We have found he gets overtired and acts crazy.

My first errand is often to drop off donations from my 40 bags project – feels so good to do this!

This day I also stopped at CVS and got one polish, Elf brow pencil, and a detangler brush.

I also got some day old bread from Jimmy John’s!

Now, I make my lunch and eat outside or inside depending on the humidity. EO is much better behaved outside. If I stay inside he gets more bitey and needy, I think. Outside he has lots to look at!

He usually takes another nap from 2-3 or 4 and then we go outside again before I start dinner.

I start dinner at 5, Tom comes home at 5:45, EO gets a playground walk, and then we eat. This particular night we had a zucchini pasta with chicken.

After we eat and the kitchen is clean, I take my shower and then I watch tv in the basement where it’s nice and cool. Tom and I have eaten together and then watched a show so we have spent time together. Our kids are living back at home and they are home for dinner some nights and some nights one or both are gone.

Tom and EO go to bed at 8:30 and I follow around 9:30-10. I want to stay up later, but usually nothing good happens. I start wanting to snack and I feel like crap the next day!

And, that’s it! It’s pretty boring and routine, but that is my life right now. The puppy factors into pretty much every aspect of my life. I do think it’s good for me to get out once a day right now to enjoy that freedom that summer allows and so I will be fresh for EO. My kids are a really big help, too, but this is generally the routine.

  1. I could not get into Unfrosted; we did give it a good try though. We had a very rainy 4th, 5th, & 6th of July so we didn’t end up doing much of anything for our long weekend. I find that we don’t really have a routine at all in the summer (other than the 2 that work full time, of course). The other 3 of us just plan each day as it comes. That said I rarely seem able to sleep in anymore so I’m often in bed by 9 the latest.

    1. It hit for us and we chuckled. I think sometimes I have to be in certain moods. After the rainy 4th, we had extreme heat Friday and then really a gorgeous weekend of sun and lower humidity! Yes, this was kind of hard to write for me to – not really a routine, but a pattern of the way the days usually go. Nothing good happens for me when I stay up too late. I love that you are an early bird, too.

  2. We could not get into Frosted either and stopped watching it. But I did like the DCC documentary. We had a lot of rain over the long weekend but it was really needed and it seemed to only rain in the morning which was great. Your boating outings look fun!

    1. No, we enjoyed Unfrosted! We thought it was nostalgic, but silly. I am not enjoying Our Lady Jane. We had perfect sunny summer weather – finally! Enjoy your day and thanks for commenting!

  3. We really liked Unfrosted, laughed so hard! My library delivered The Arrangement on Friday and I immediately started reading it, I am anxious to see what happens.

I love seeing ya’ll out on your boat – I would love to be near a lake and have such easy access. Perfect way to spend a summer day!

    1. It was nostalgic, right? I then went out and bought strawberry pop tarts and had major cereal cravings! Lol!
It’s really fun – it’s actually the good old Ohio River – the border between Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio and probably more states. We go into a cove to anchor on the Indiana side and it looks like a lake.

  4. So nice to enjoy the lake over the weekend! I loved your day in the life. Your neighborhood looks so pretty with the big trees. Great job on making the donations! I dropped off clothes at Plato’s yesterday and have sacks of the rest to give away. I am just tackling my house room by room through each cabinet and drawer. If nothing else, I feel like I am making things a little neater. I want to start watching the DCC show soon. Have a good Monday!

    1. It’s actually the good old Ohio River! We go to a cove that looks like a lake, though. I have seen as many as 200 boats anchored there. I love my little hood. Good for you, too! We are both tackling our clutter! I hope you like DCC!

  5. So glad you got some great weather over the weekend for boating- looks like a great one. I feel the same way about “America’s Sweethearts”- so good and I cried at parts too!

    1. We’ve had fun. I like the option of pulling up and eating at CQ or taking a picnic and this weekend we did both! My days are pretty boring! Ha!

  6. I haven’t watched Unfrosted but my younger daughter and I love the DCC. We used to watch it when it was on another network, and this new Netflix format was a bit different, but we liked it better. I really enjoy the Day in the Life posts, but have never done one myself. I’m usually not that on top of the blog world lol. Have a nice week!

    1. It was good! I liked it better, too, because they used the real music. You should do one! I am close to retirement so I am interested! I guess I live the retirement life every summer since I’m a teacher! I bet your daughters think you are so cool because you have a blog!

    1. I did, too! Oh, maybe not? I heard that they couldn’t use the original music in the CMT version because they didn’t pay for rights to it? The music made it!

  7. Unfrosted wasn’t bad. It was almost slapstick it was so dumb lol. But I don’t remember if we finished it.

I’m rewatching Suits so I can watch season 9. I have no idea what was going on at the end of S8 at this point.

    1. We were in the mood for it! It got dumber as it went on. I can’t remember if I tried Suits or not. If I did, I didn’t give it much of a chance so maybe I will try it again.

  8. Sorry you didn’t have a great 4th of July!. It looks like you had a lovely time on the boat though.
Your neighbourhood looks beautiful! Great for lots of walks with EO. It sounds like he keeps you busy.
Good job with all the donating!

  9. Our Fourth was pretty uneventful, but that’s nothing new. Jack, our dog, is terrified of the noise so I had him in his crate with it covered by lots and lots of quilts pretty early.

I think teacher summer days (yes, that’s a thing or should be) are a different breed. We try to cram a lot into each day because we know they’re limited. I like how you do such a good job at balancing everything out. Retirement has turned me into a sloth, I think.
