I’m having a two post day today! What? I wanted to link up with the gals at Share Your Shelf in addition to my usual Fashion Files.

I haven’t had a great reading year! I’m a fair weather reader and much prefer reading outside. I feel like if I’m sitting down inside my go to is the television. Not to worry, I only have a couple of hours to sit down inside so it isn’t a problem most of the year.

Here is what I am currently finishing. I’ve enjoyed it. It’s got food description, a chateau in France, and some romance. As the book went on, it got cheesier and it lacked character development.

I love Sarah Adams and loved this latest book of hers. I’m sad that I have read most of her books! If you are looking for a new summer reading author – check her out. Her books have a sports element, too. You like beefy NFL players? Here you go!

This was super cute and I loved it!

This was cute and she has many more set in locales all over the place, but it seems like my library doesn’t have any others.

I discovered a new author and enjoyed these books in the spring:

They were fluffy and like a Hallmark movie in book form, but pretty well written.

My favorite so far this year is The Rule Book by Sarah Adams. I’ve checked out some non-fiction, too, but I tend to just skim those.

Honestly, nothing I’ve read this year is anything I will rave about. I’ve not had the mental capacity to read anything too deep or thought provoking.

Here’s what I’m deciding between for my next reads:

We will see if any of the above stick. I could always get the alert that another library request has come in.

What are you reading right now? Any books or authors you would recommend to me?

Cheers!

Amy

  1. I am reading three books right now: a non-fiction, and two fictional books. One I had to take a break from, because it’s one that I feel like I should love, since everyone has raved about it, but I’m waiting for it to pick back up. I decided to take a break from it for a few days and started the new Annabel Monaghan that I texted you about. It’s SO GOOD. I do go through major reading slumps, like you are right now. Maybe you’ll find some inspiration here today if your new ones don’t work out.

    1. Dang! I can’t wait til my library has that Anabel book. Another thing I need to do is get outside to read after dinner. I am so hard on myself. It’s only been a week so of course I don’t have a good schedule down yet!

  2. I have heard of Cara Bastone, but haven’t read anything of hers. I am going to keep Sarah Adams in mind and look at my library. Thanks for linking up!

  3. I just picked up two books by Sarah Adams but I don’t think I had ever read anything by her before. My library didn’t have her books but I could get them through loan. Ali’s books however I had to buy since I couldn’t get those at all and I really enjoy them.

    1. I hope you like it – it is definitely chick lit but she is a good writer and there are funny parts, too. I think it’s ok to buy books because you really enjoy them! I might be buying a few this summer, too. I have done so well on my no book buying for so many years that I don’t feel guilty.

  4. June Bug by Chris Fabry is REALLY good, I bet the library has it. I read it years ago, but it’s one of my favorites.

  5. I love to read; it’s my escape, my stress-reliever, and something I look forward to every day. I just finished The Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware. There were too many characters, and it was hard to keep them straight. She’s one of my favorite authors. I love thrillers! I’m reading Freida McFadden’s book The Locked Door. It’s good but creepy. My favorite book this year is Sipsworth, and I highly recommend it! I almost didn’t read it after I read the description- a woman and a mouse- but it’s so good and will stick with me for a long time. Lisa Jewell and Shari Lapena have new books coming out this summer, and I look forward to them. I also recommend Brooklyn and then the sequel Long Island by Colm Toibin. They were both excellent!

  6. I used to be a serial reader. I would have a book (or two) in the bathroom, one in the bedroom, and one in the kitchen, plus all the books I read to my students. Now, I have two on my Libby and couldn’t tell you the titles of either. Neither is catching my attention, but I’m too stubborn to abandon them. Nothing really grabs me right now. Try Jen Lancaster…she’s from Indiana by way of New Jersey and lives in the Chicago area now. Her memoirs are better than her fiction IMHO.

    1. Oh wow! I have read some or all of Jen Lancaster. Something about a black dress?
I am kind of meh on my current books, too. Hoping for a library email today or I might have to bite the bullet and buy a fun summer book!

  7. I’ve read some of the must-read-books (Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow and Hello beautiful), but none of them was really my thing. Great authors, but it’s hard for me to be interested in made up life stories.. I started The Women (had to return it) and I really liked that first 1/3! Now I’m reading another Kristin Hannah book, The Nightingale (raving reviews!) and so far it’s quite good…
