Let us not forget why we are off work today. We use today as the unofficial start of summer, but it’s also a holiday for a reason – to honor and remember those who served.

I thought I would go ahead and share some weekend highlights and then anything else I do I will share on Friday for Friday Favorites. I am linking up with Sarah and Holly if they host their link up today.

I’m going to start with Friday morning before school…

I love sitting on my covered patio on a workday or an off day. I think getting outside early in the day really affects my mood.

Friday was the last school day with students of my 30th year! How is that even possible? I’m not that old! Of course I had to take the traditional photo. It was kind of a sad day saying bye to my students. Some asked to take pics with me which was so sweet. I think some kids are truly sad to see the year come to an end.

Happy Hour! Erica and I went to Boombozz and our old French teacher friend Elizabeth came, too. She is now in another field of work.

Friday night, Tom and I made sure the boat battery was charged up and we let this little guy go for a swim…

Labs and water! It’s so natural to them. It’s still pretty amazing to see a little guy swim so well, though. Tom pretty much has Eddie Otis on the old Ernie program as far as routines go. We miss Ernie, of course. This weekend made us nostalgic for all the good memories we made with him.

Saturday was our first boat outing of the season and Eddie Otis got to experience it for his first time.

He was so good! He wasn’t crazy and tolerated his lifejacket really well. He had to wear it the whole time. We stayed out for about 4 hours, too!

We took some friends and stopped at Captain’s Quarters for lunch.

Sunday I finally made it to Trader Joe’s for the body wash, body butter, and peonies!

I had lots of reading time this weekend and I’m thoroughly enjoying my new Sarah Adams book.

Lots of puppy snuggles this weekend happened, too. Sometimes I think he is such a baby and other times he just seems like a miniature big dog. That made no sense, probably!

And, I finally got to take the photos I wanted to take. Since my kids didn’t graduate at their college but at a big arena, we didn’t get the photos on campus.

We went to eat at Waldo’s Chicken and Beer after that and we had Eddie Otis with us and he hung out under the table while we ate.

And, those are the highlights! We didn’t have the best weather this weekend. Friday and Saturday we had some rain and yesterday we had some storms with crazy strong winds. We were spared, but we saw lots of damage when we went out late in the afternoon. I hope you all were safe and spared from the storms, too.

  1. I love what you shared about Memorial day. I feel the exact same as you, my friend! You had a great weekend, and yay that you got some boat weather! EO looks so big in the water, and yet still so tiny in his vest and in a lap. I love that he loves to swim like his predecessor! How much do you have to work this week? I’m just curious. Enjoy the day, my friend!

      1. SWEET! I am so happy for you! I hated that you got out so late last summer; it seemed to significantly shorten your break.

  2. How fun to take EO out on the boat for the first time. The life vest is so cute, and what a trooper to wear it for 4 hours. I’m not sure if Mollie will like the water. So far she avoids the water hose. I will have to take her to the dog park with a lake to see what she does.

  3. EO in a life jacket. Is there anything cuter? Sounds like a great weekend…boating and grad pics. Fun!
Congrats on year 30. I am on the same pace as you…my kids will graduate college at the end of year 30 for me. Your students are so lucky to have you.

  4. Congratulations on another year of teaching! When can we all come up for a boat ride this summer?? 🙂 How far is the lake from where y’all live? I went to Trader Joe’s as well this weekend. Happy official start to summer!

  5. I love your patio and the view! It looks like a great place to relax and read. How would you describe the scent of the Brazil Nut body wash from TJ? I’m thinking of going to TJ next week to see what they have. I heard there’s a really good pastry there, sort of like the Kringle but better! That will surely lure me in, lol. TJ is always packed, so I have to get up the nerve to go; I don’t like crowded stores! EO is absolutely adorable! This week, I proctor 1 exam Tues, 1 on Wed and then 2 on Thurs. Students come in for exams and are gone by 11:45. These are the days!! I have to do grades and finish moving to my NEW classroom! It’s with the other reading teachers and doesn’t open to the outside. It also used to be a big storage closet, years ago, so very few outlets. If nothing teachers can adapt and improvise, right?! Have a great start to vacation!!!

  6. We don’t have anything like Memorial day, Sweden hasn’t been involved a war since 1814… But I get what you mean; we are off from work and school on holidays and don’t reflect on why!

How can you start your summer break now!? Crazy! Enjoy!

    Oh, Eddie! Cutie, cutie!
