This was one of those weekends that both felt long and short. I had Friday off so it was a three day weekend! I am linking up with Sarah and Holly to share what I did.

Thursday after school Erica came over for a quick happy hour and because she wanted to see how much Eddie Otis has grown. She left and I made dinner and we did the normal evening routine. I stayed up a little later than I have been, so that was nice.

Friday my piranha puppy let me sleep until 6:20 and Tom had taken him to bed at 8:30 the night before so I was nervous. Thank you, Eddie Otis! I felt great after a week of very little sleep. We do puppy playtime on the floor after breakfast and after he gets worn out, he naps and lets me do blog stuff. Then, we did a walk and he let me do my laundry and a load of towels (his laundry – puppies make lots of dirty laundry).

Awwww – warning that there will be lots of EO photos in this post!

How does one get up and do things when you have this to cuddle?

It was a rainy dreary day and I didn’t feel like I was missing out on the Kentucky Oaks (day before Derby). I watched the outfits and some of the coverage on tv, though, throughout the day.

I offered to bring EO to Tom’s work for the first time and it made Tom slightly more popular.

Eddie Otis is really a sleepy boy most of the day and until after dinner, really.

Various napping positions here… Boy, is it nice to have a lap dog for a bit!

In the late afternoon, we went outside.

Then, it was time to meet Daddy at the vet! My kids say that I should not call Tom “Daddy”, but oh well. Tom met me and we both got to hear that his weight has officially doubled now. He got a couple of shots and was definitely a good boy. Mason was home and wanted Mexican takeout so Tom picked it up and I took EO on home.

We woke up Saturday to more rain…but everything is just so green!

I made an egg scramble for Mason and I.

I did a little morning reading. Years ago, I asked myself what I liked so much about vacation and I answered myself that I liked drinking coffee and eating outside, reading outside, and the slower pace. So, I have tried to replicate the things I do on vacation at home. I’m sure this is not a revelation to anyone, but I made these practices intentional many years ago.

My new smart oven told me it was Derby…

I found out when it is a good time to go to Trader Joe’s – Derby Saturday morning!

My project this weekend was to work on cleaning and sprucing up the patios and getting some new plants and flowers.

I also wanted to make Derby foods for just our family on Saturday. I made hot brown sliders, benedictine spread, and set out a few things I didn’t make.

Tom pressured washed the patio and the rug and got ferns to hang, too.

I got myself the recent Southern Living and of course, it had Derby day stuff!

I watched Derby coverage on and off all day and finally when it was time for the big race I sat on the patio in the rain and watched on my phone.

A former student got to sing My Old Kentucky home with the U of L choir:

For dinner, we had all already eaten all day so I didn’t make anything else.

Yesterday morning, I got a nice photo of my big boy:

He has learned “sit”!

Another niece had another prom:

I only went to one store on Sunday and it was Dollar Tree. I found some cute sets of blank cards that I like to have on hand.

Jack and I made a cake and used the Hershey’s Cocoa frosting recipe on the package again. We made our cake from a box and subbed the veg oil for butter.

Eddie Otis learned what mowing was yesterday. Look at his little butt following behind Tom. He would follow for a bit and then run back to me.

My chartreuse press on is still going strong as of typing this on Sunday afternoon.

I’m excited to buy some summer colors but I’m making myself use what I have for now.

Tell me something about your weekend!

Because I have such a busy few weeks ahead, I am planning to only post on Monday, Thursday, and Friday unless I am able to join another link up.

  1. EO is just so cute following the mower! Glad you had Friday off, I think 3 day weekends should be mandatory.

Our weekend was busy, and I am exhausted! I am sad it’s over and wish it would have lasted longer.

    1. I thought that was so cute! I woke up Saturday feeling like I had done most of my chores already. It was wonderful.
I bet! I guess today at work (from home) will be a bit of a recovery day.

    1. They really are when the cuddle doesn’t come with a bite! I keep yelling, “more tongue, less teeth”! He is such a biter! Thank you. Our dogs really never mind the vet.

  2. Having a puppy in the house is like having a second job. But they’re cute and that puppy season, while it feels long, goes so fast. We had a Derby party and the rain held off so people could come be both in and out which was nice. It was an exciting race, that’s for sure!

    1. Thank you for validating my feelings! I know – you are right. I almost think that getting him two months before school is out is training me. If we had waited until summer I would have had a harder time crating him. I have to do it now! Oh fun! That race was crazy!

  3. EO has grown! How big will he get? Your derby food spread looks good and I love the fact of bringing home vacation relaxation tips. Hope it is a good Monday back at school!

    1. We think he will be 80-90 pounds. Ernie was about 85 pounds. Thank you! I think that vacay perspective helps me. It was good! We are in the homestretch. I think I am on autopilot now. My plans are set and I want to enjoy the kids and leave them with good memories.

  4. Spent most of our weekend inside while because it’s raining and very humid in San Antonio. My youngest daughter who is at the University of Oklahoma is coming home after finals for awhile. She says she needs a break from the tornado warnings! I look forward to your EO pictures! I love the one of him “helping” Tom mow! When my previous dog was about his age, I left her in the kitchen while I ran errands. When I got home I found she had chewed two corners of my kitchen cabinets off!! It looked like a beaver had been there. Thankfully this before we remodeled our house!

    1. That can be good, too! I bet – that is so stressful to me to hear all the tornado warnings and sirens and the weather people go crazy. Thank you – I am finding the new things he does so cute. I just wish he didn’t bite so much. I have tried everything. Oh man – why are some dogs such chewers. I was just bragging about how Ernie didn’t destroy anything. I should have kept my mouth shut!

  5. Love the pictures of Eddie Otis! He is adorable. We call my husband daddy too, for the dogs. It’s a thing. 🤷‍♀️ I have so much cleaning and planting to do outside so your post has motivated me!

    1. Thank you! Ha – the word Daddy is kind of a taboo with young people! I could do so much more, but for me this was pretty good! We never did buy ferns last year. I love them so much. I need a new front doormat. Right now the azaleas and rhodedendrons are crazy but when they go dormant, I need some plants on the front porch.

  6. You don’t ever have to apologize for puppy pictures! There isn’t anything better than a puppy sleeping in your lap; it’s like a dose of some kind of calming medication…but way better. I love those chartreuse nails! I’m thinking about which color I want next…I know I want something bright after my two months in a row of neutral nails. My favorite part of the weekend was all of my energy! We have a new mattress that is helping me sleep better, and I’m waking up with no pain and feeling refreshed. I’ve only been sleeping about five hours each night, but it’s been plenty for now!

Have a great day, my friend!

    1. Yeah, I almost said that if you don’t like puppy pictures you aren’t my friend! That would have been harsh! I totally agree. I have really enjoyed them. What about a yellow shade for you? I also love a blue? I think we could benefit from a new mattress. That is some strong praise for your new one. 5 hours straight sounds great right now. I am the same – feel great with between 5-7.

      1. Right? I feel the same about dogs/friends. 🤣 I’m doing yellow when I am more tan than I am right now, but I may do a fun blue! I don’t know yet…it’s fun to think about.

  7. EO is looking a lot bigger already! We started pressure washing our house this weekend but it will take at least a few days before we get it all done. Other than that I don’t think we did much this weekend.

    1. I think so! Our house is brick so I guess we don’t have to do that? It’s a big job but it comes with great reward! Its’ amazing how good the patio and rug look. Same- pretty low key but just what I needed.

  8. Looks like a great oaks / derby with EO. I love the pic of him on the porch. What a cutie. I love going to oaks and then still have my weekend …& it’s usually a low key weekend which is always very much needed…& we don’t do much for derby. I wish they’d give us the day off on oaks. We even usually have prom on derby day. Crazy haha

  9. Even though he doesn’t like dogs, I’ve always called my husband the dog’s daddy! He then asks me what that makes me!!! Hahaha!!! I love that photo of Eddie Otis following along as your husband mows! How sweet is that face? I honestly wouldn’t be getting anything done. Jack, my Westie who is supersized, still thinks he’s a lap dog even though he’s around 30 pounds. He’s the only dog we’ve ever had who loves me the most! All the others loved the kids or my husband most!

  10. Your weekend was really nice! I so like your idea of doing the things you appreciate during a vacation!

It’s so beautiful where you live! I love the green!

Buying new summer clothes is the best! Don’t wait to long! Since my summer is so short I need to soak it up! I ordered a classic shirt dress, striped in blue and white. And it’s time to bring out that white skirt you reminded me of!
