Whew! It’s been a week! I haven’t slept great but I’ve been kind to myself in addition to starting some better habits for myself. Let’s dive in with Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites.

My first favorite is you all and your sweet words and comments on my Ernie and Currently posts.

Thank you so much for the love you’ve shown me. It makes me tear up when I read them.

I went ahead and went to school Monday but I left plans just in case. It was good to be out of the house and busy and the students were really sweet to me.

I knew that after school would be hard so I have gone somewhere each day.

Monday:

Tuesday I ran errands – grocery pick up, spray tan, a boutique to buy a birthday gift for a friend.

I started back to the gym Monday morning at 5:30:

No picture from Tuesday!

Wednesday:

Tom loves to send me reels and some of them are recipes. He sent me this one to save your potato peelings (I was making mashed potatoes anyway), coat them in seasonings and olive oil and air fry. He loved them! We have no air fryer anymore, but are using the function on our oven, by the way.

Wednesday I met my other friend Beth at this liquor store/bar for a drink and then we…

had a second one at a restaurant next door along with some…

fried banana peppers and…

nachos.

I’ve been eating really healthy breakfasts and lunches this week – and dinners or just not eating because I’m not very hungry – so this was a nice treat. It was great to catch up, too.

Something exciting happened this week, too! Do you know of the website thekitchn.com?

They have a Grocery Diaries series that I really like reading. People say where they shop, list what they bought, and give you a week’s run down of the meals they made and ate.

I applied and I got chosen!

Here is an example of a Grocery Diaries:

I am working on it right now and I will be sure to make a blog post out of it. I’m super excited!

What were your favorites this week? I hope you had many!

Amy

  1. I’m sure it’s been a rough week but you have the right idea by shaking up your routine and treating yourself with kindness. These are fabulous favorites.

  2. Amy!!! How exciting that you were chosen! They made a wise choice and I can hardly wait to see your post.

Great idea to make plans each afternoon. That’s the hardest part, the little every day things that feel so hard when we lose a family member. I am still working on that in some ways but working from home and always having Sophie right next to me is still taking time. The new normal is a lonely one.

Have a good weekend and great for you getting back to the gym!!

    1. You’re sweet! Now I feel pressure to have more creative meals! Being home is the hardest for sure. I am not a mental health counselor, but I am trying to help Tom with that trigger, too.

  3. I’m so glad you’ve made it through the week! I know it’ll get a little easier with each passing day, and you’re smart to do different things in the mornings and afternoon. How exciting about being chosen for Grocery Diaries! I’ve never heard of that. I’m interested to hear more! I told Todd about your drink the other night, and he was jealous just like you said. 🤣 Have a great day, my friend!

    1. Finally! I was going to let myself take a day off, but I pushed on through. Ha – unfortunately, you didn’t have a great Frankfort Avenue Airbnb but that is where I was – my fave street!

    1. Aww, you are sweet to say that. I haven’t had a great cooking week, unfortunately, so I will carry it into next week, I think. They didn’t have a hard deadline, so that’s good. You are sweet to say that. I only made it 3 days but better than zero!

    1. Yes! It was really a nice little gift in a hard week. I am trying. It’s hard when you are also exhausted and in need of more break than a weekend! Ha! I am going to take a day and a half off soon.

  7. That’s so great that you made a plan to do something after school each day. That time is so hard when your loved one is no longer home to greet you. I went through that after my mum passed. It’s gotten less hard but I still get sad. I’m so happy that you have the Grocery Diaries to look forward to! I hope you have a good weekend and I’ll be praying for you during these tough grieving times xxx

    1. I’m tired! I will be ready to come home right after school next week and enjoy that, too. I just knew how much I would be triggered and how strange it is to come home to no animal waiting for me. Sad. I bet you do as your mom was living with you? Thank you! Yes, it should be fun. I appreciate that and I will be praying that you have peace in those moments you miss your mom.

    1. It was the right move for me – maybe not my pocketbook, my stomach, or my health. He! I really didn’t go crazy and only had one drink most days.
I hope my grocery diaries can be more interesting. I’m afraid I picked some basic meals. I may go back to the drawing board and look at some of my better meals over the last year.

  9. I can’t wait to read your grocery diary! It looks like an interesting website, and I saw one woman made hot milk cake, and I’m going to make one. It was a long week, and only 5 more school days until Spring Break. Next week is also the last week of the marking period, and I’m chasing students to do their make-up work and bring up their grade to at least a D-. I struggle on days when I don’t get enough sleep, and there were several days like that this week.

    1. I picked pretty basic meals and now I think I need to add some of my more interesting ones! I will have to look up hot milk cake! We still have so long until our break! I am taking one day off for sure and maybe my other half of the half day. I can’t make it 15 more days. I refuse to beg anymore. I have several failures and it’s on them. I am a very reasonable grader and teacher and you have to work to fail my class. Period.

  10. Congratulations on being chosen! You will definitely make a fabulous guest author! I’m so impressed you go to the gym before school. I always get so sweaty and take so long to cool down so I’d have to go about 3:30 am. That’s if I were still teaching!

I think it’s wonderful you have friends who recognize your pain and do something about it. You are definitely a loved person.

    1. Thank you! Well, as life would have it I didn’t have the most exciting cooking week last week so I may take another week to keep editing my grocery diaries post. I only do a 30 minute strength thing before school but I do take a body shower after.
Yes, I have had lots of people on board with meeting me this week and it’s been a lovely reminder that I have them.

  11. Oh, I know that empty sensation when you’re sad, it’s really physical. Good on you to care of yourself as you have this week! And all the love from your students; precious!

So cool that you were chosen for that recipe thing! Perfect for you I would say, your food posts are really inspiring! This summer I hope you will do an Aldi thing for us!

The gym is always a good place to go to lift your spirits!

A favorite this week is some kind of sense of spring in the air! Still cold, but all the snow is gone!
