Well, here we are on a Thursday for Fashion Files with Kellyann and Jill! I skipped last week but included some outfits in Friday Favorites so you may see some repeats here.

After Thanksgiving, I pushed aside all manner of olive, mustard, burnt sienna, and other fall colors and I started wearing my plaids, reds, greens, blacks, and what I consider to be more December colors.

I am also “auditioning” which pieces need to go with me in my carry-on only (eek!) upcoming trip to England and Scotland. I feel that an 8-hour teacher day is a fairly good test!

I love my new Target.com (I say this when I don’t shop in store, which is really a thing of the past for me now) Christmas tree sweater. The sweater came with an extra Christmas tree button. This sweater is going with me on the trip. I like it best with it buttoned and I added a white tank underneath after trying it on below:

I got mine on sale for only $21!

Saturday errand outfit – I don’t know why I think this shirt is so funny. It say’s “Prosecc Ho Ho Ho” – like Santa, not like another type, ok?

Saturday lunch and shopping outfit – my Wit and Wisdom Itty Bitty bootcuts were too long and I finally made the decision to cut them so I can wear them with flatter shoes and sneakers.

This is why I don’t wear my hair straight – eek! I wore my Kut from the Kloth jeans and my new Walmart sweater ($10!) to run some errands Sunday and then…

changed into my black pleather pants and Hush Puppies pumps to go to dinner and the church service.

Monday school outfit and also a very strong travel outfit contender – TJ Maxx top and American Eagle velvet leggings with my new Chelsea boots from Nordstrom.

With my new Columbia rain jacket –

Tuesday school outfit – I got so many comments on this outfit from my students and one girl said she is going to wear the same outfit today. I bet she doesn’t have moo shoes, though!

So, I have been attempting sweaters at school and I am a bit hot, but it’s all in the name of research.

Let’s talk about Walmart. Ok, this is typical Amy. I ordered not one, but three pairs of the Joyspun holiday pajamas and then was further influenced to buy a pullover which sent me looking for more things for the trip. I had more than enough bottoms, but my tops were not cutting it, in my opinion.

I ordered the white sweater above, the green pullover that Jen recommended, and this green side button sweater. I am really impressed with the two items I have already received and the Walmart shipping and delivery rivals Amazon for me. They are also very communicative and precise about when your order will arrive.

Anyway, I pray I don’t have to go into a store for returns because that is not my vibe. Walmart.com is impressing me you guys! No one is more shocked than I am!

Any favorite outfits?

What have you been wearing?

Any packing tips?

Amy

The leggings are your best best for mixing as you know. It will be cold there so…

    1. Thank you! Oh shoot, you can’t find them? I think Democracy brand might have something similar?
Here is what I am thinking:
      regular leggings on the plane
      Bringing:
      black velvet leggings
      Spanx faux leather leggings
      1 pair of jeans

debating my Wit and Wisdom black stretchy dress pants as my final bottom

      1. Def a pair of jeans!
BTW- You are my favorite blogger. Just love your fashion files and book picks too! I also am a teacher and love to read in the am before school.

      2. I am debating between my light Kut from the Kloth and my Itty Bitty dark. Thank you so much! You are too sweet to say that! So, you are in the trenches with me, huh? This stretch between Thanksgiving and Winter break is a beast! I’m trying to have fun with it and be super organized to feel less stress. Good luck! Love that you read before school, too!

  2. First of all, your hair looks great straight! You have beautiful hair Amy.
I’m not sure how long your trip is but I’d bring leggings, a pair of jeans, and maybe one other pant and then several sweaters and tops to layer. Definitely bring your chelsea boots or some type of waterproof shoe. Layers are key. When we were in the UK that worked best for me!

    1. Really? Thanks!
9 days! I think you are right – I am actually wearing one legging, bringing 2 more, the pleather pants, and one jean. I need to solidify my tops. I am not totally happy with them, yet, but I am very happy with my bottoms!
      Thank you!

  3. I really love the strong contender outfit- the black leggings, striped shirt, Chelsea boots. I would definitely take that and those leather pants! I feel like you can need one dressier outfit for dinner at night maybe, and then the rest of the time you could make do with two other (three at most) pairs of pants. I have always heard when packing carry-on, to wear your heaviest shoes in the airport and to also “wear” (or carry) your coat. Are you taking a coat that’s actually a warm coat? I feel like you will definitely need one!

    1. One other thing, sorry! You should follow “traveltipsbylaurie” on Instagram. She’s a carry-on packer and pilot’s wife. She gives great advice!

    2. I think it’s going for sure. I agree on the leather pants. Erica said no, but I told her how warm they are. They have a lining that makes you quite warm – warmer than jeans. I have ordered a packable down coat that goes down to the bum for a bit more warmth. I plan on wearing my coatigan on the plane and it is surprisiingly warm. I am planning to take Kroger bags for the coats on the plane for all of us. I have a cute hat (not on me, but oh well) and am getting new gloves.

  4. Definitely pack those leggings with the striped shirt; both of those are nice versatile pieces. I have zero packing suggestions as I always way over pack. I’ve already warned my husband I am checking a bag and bringing a carry on for the cruise. I think I have 3 outfits planned for each day!

    1. Ok – will do! They don’t take up much space, either. Yes – I am also an overpacker. Ha – but those warm weather clothes are lighter and don’t take up as much space and I do find I want to change more when it’s hot.

  5. Ugh I just lost my entire comment. Anyway, definitely check out Travel Tips by Laurie on You Tube. She has great packing tips for carry on. Layers are key. I would pick jeans over leggings for the weather there, unless they are thick/lined leggings. Be prepared for it to feel colder than you think based on temperature alone. It is a DAMP cold. So excited for your trip!

    1. I hate when that happens! I am following her and I found another one, too! I am packing velvet and faux leather leggings that are warmer than the typical leggings, but you may be right about jeans being warmer. I also have some fleece lined leggings that can go under jeans, maybe? Yes – I am a bit scared to feel the damp cold, but I also enjoy the damp weather when we have it here. I realize I can always buy something there if needed!

  6. So much fun to plan some packing, but stressful, too. Always wondering if you are taking enough and enough of the right things. Right? I want to hear more about your packing list…maybe you have already thought about it, but a down puffer vest to wear under your rain coat. I want my Amy to stay warm.

    1. Yes! I think it is part of my overthinking nature. I overthink every decision, practically. I plan to do a post but not sure if it will be before or after so I can share my results on how it went.
Yes, I agree to the vest. I have a fleece one in my packing pile and debating buying a packable down vest. Thank you – me too, but I do run hot!

  7. Definitely take the striped top and the leggings with the Chelsea boots. I’d go with the darker denim over light because it will probably be wet. My only packing suggestion is to make a master list of what you think you need, whittle it down to the bare necessities and put it in your carry-on so you know you’ve got everything. I wear my heaviest shoes on the plane so they don’t weigh down the bag, and they keep your feet warmer usually.

    How exciting!

    1. Thank you! Walmart is now above Target for me I think! I ordered your green pullover, too! The wrong size came so I had to reorder but the quality and feel is so good for the price!

  8. That’s why you don’t wear your hair straight? I have curly hair and have to pay someone to make my hair look like that! Yours is gorgeous!

  9. Love the velvet leggings! Sutton has a pair of velvet pants and they are just next-level compared to regular black 🙂
I will say that the number of people wearing flared jeans is giving me 2002 flashbacks and I don’t love it.

    1. Thank you! What I also love about them is that the bottom has a zipper so you can take them off easier, too. Velvet is one of my favorite fabrics to be honest. I think they work for a certain body type that is not mine. Since mine are Itty Bitty bootcut they are low key. When I think of 2002, I think of the horrible super low rise jeans.
