Last fall my face became drier than I have ever experienced. It was painful! I would say I have always had combination skin where my cheeks were just normal but my t-zone was oily, so I have never really struggled with dry skin on my face. I think it might have been a bit of wind burn from a boat ride, but nevertheless, I struggled with painful dry skin last year until I could get it under control.
Confession – I am really lazy about lotion and a skin care routine. I get so tired that if i don’t do something before I get too tired in the evening, it probably isn’t happening.
So, here is my routine:
I eat dinner, clean up dinner, and then immediately jump in the shower where I wash my face. I wash my hair every other night, so this is a really quick shower on the off night. This is how I make sure that my makeup gets washed off thoroughly. But, I am also not wearing much makeup to school these days.
Here’s my dry skin prevention routine:

This is a must buy product for me in the winter. You turn off the shower, apply this lotion and then towel off. I also use my regular lotion – Cerave at night and Bath and Body Into the Night in the morning. Yes, I do take a quick body shower in the morning, too. I just feel weird going to school if I haven’t. This Jergens Wet Skin is great for the person who is lazy about lotion.
For my face, this has been a game changer. This makes your makeup “melt” off almost. I put a small spoonful in my hands and then rub on my face. If I have extra, I put it on my elbows. I try to keep it on my face for a bit before getting in the shower and rinsing it off and then using my facial cleanser – Cetaphil. Thank you to Jennifer for helping me to start this!

I can’t find a lotion I like better than this Trader Joe’s. It’s lightweight and doesn’t bother me. I just added Isle of Paradise face tanning drops to my routine. I started with 3 drops and now I am maintaining with just one drop.

I need to add a thicker nighttime face lotion and just use this for the morning. Any recs? I won’t spend a lot, so don’t give me any $100 recommendations! Ha!

The coconut oil and Cerave has helped my dry skin so much. I need to find an exfoliating lotion; my mom recommended this to me this weekend, because I’ll put on Cerave and within an hour it’s like I never even moisturized. She said that’s usually when you need exfoliate. I may find some today. I do try to remember to use lotion everyday! I’m not quite as good at this in the cooler months as I am in the summer, but I try. I like to do that before I put on makeup so that it has time to soak in before I get dressed. I just use Cerave at all times of day, so I don’t have a nighttime one to recommend. Thanks for the shout out!

Yes! It works almost instantly. That makes sense and your mom does have great skin!

Believe it or not, a dermatologist friend of mine suggested putting Vaseline on your face instead of lotion before going to bed… just a light layer rubbed in – and I love it! I can really tell a difference especially in the winter months.

I forgot about good old Vaseline and that is what worked to heal my face last year! Thanks!

I’ve used Cerave skin renewing night cream. It’s in a purple and white container. It’s a thicker than a day cream, a good price and leaves your skin soft in the morning.

I’ve seen that – sounds great!

I just picked up some Gold Bond Diabetics Lotion (but I bought Equate brand at WM) for my hands and body. It was recommended by a trusted influencer, and it is soo good. It’s very thick, so I will mainly use it on my hands and occasionally my legs and feet. Thanks for sharing your routine! I need to try the Trader Joe’s moisturizer. I’ve heard all their beauty products are manufactured by high end companies.

I saw that tip from Laurie and it’s in my cart! I also want to try another lotion from Trader Joe’s that someone said has the exact ingredients as a much pricier brand!

Thanks to you I am using coconut oil to remove my make up and I LOVE IT! It really does melt the make up right off.

Great! Did you take it on the trip? I am debating that!

I did not, I debated it but was afraid it would make a mess if it melted and leaked. I took make up wipes instead.

You looked amazing and I am intrigued by your packing list and your shoes. I really want some Nikes!

I don’t think I will either. I am trying for mostly solid products and to be very minimalist.

Hey. Here is a nighttime lotion I have used and really like it. I order it from Amazon and it is $10, so worth a try!https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Face-Cream-Moisturiser-Aging/dp/B07PHTMJZ1?pd_rd_w=jDJKM&content-id=amzn1.sym.904ca806-5e87-42cf-86b8-c792f6d660bd&pf_rd_p=904ca806-5e87-42cf-86b8-c792f6d660bd&pf_rd_r=BM62331EAHH80A3KWT32&pd_rd_wg=f7WKp&pd_rd_r=765652f3-5e26-4ba5-8dda-96863eacdc9e&pd_rd_i=B07PHTMJZ1&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_1_ec_t

I have heard of other people using coconut oil to remove makeup. I use an olive oil cleanser and love it. I should try the coconut oil, though. My husband’s hands get cracked and dry in the winter. My hair stylist recommended a lotion/salve from Kiehl’s which is really spendy, but it makes a huge difference in his hands (as long as he remembers to use it).
I can’t recommend anything because I’m constantly changing things! I use something up and move on to the next best thing! One thing I do love is an oil over a cream. And, I do spend a lot on that.

It’s really great! I bet the olive oil is wonderful, as well! I am not brand loyal either, but if I re-purchase something it means a lot!

I love that Jergens in the winter. I’ve started using it again because my skin has felt so dry. I still love my dime beauty skincare products. I use their day and night moisturizer.

Isn’t it great? I think it really helps. Still haven’t tried Dime.
