It’s time for another edition of Fashion Files today with Kellyann and Jill!
Today is my birthday! I have always loved having a fall birthday and have used it as a time to spruce up my fall and winter wardrobes. Clothing and accessories have always been my favorite gifts to receive!
I ordered a Sorel boot dupe made by Bob’s Skechers in black. I hated the toe (it was not smooth, but rather bunched up – made to look that way) and I thought they looked cheap. I didn’t even try them on. I have found a lower heeled Sorel that I would like to try in store. I just need to get out and look. I am looking for a black waterproof bootie, but I do have my short black rain boots that I absolutely love and have worn so much, so those might just do.

Let’s talk about the camel coatigan. I ordered the size down to compare and the shoulders and upper arms are too tight.
Here is the larger size that does fit:

I love the color, the feel, and it is incredibly warm. Do I try another brand or does this look ok? I want to wear it as a coat and as a third piece, I think.
I’m trying to really take my time with my purchases and be thoughtful. If you read my October Spending Diary, I didn’t spend much on clothing.
Ok, so let’s see what I’ve worn over the last week..
I wore this to school Monday. The gauzy pants were too thin by the end of the day when the weather turned colder, but I was comfortable all day. The poncho thing is made of scarf material, and I bought it from an online boutique years ago because I loved the “fall” print so much.

I had also worn it Sunday like this for Jack’s church performance:

Friday night happy hour on the Osteria patio:

I wore my Dillard’s Westbound jeans, my Hush Puppies pumps, a white button down, and a wrap my sister in law gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago.
I wore this to school last week and a student said I looked like a pirate. I’m wearing the other style of Matilda Janes in a dark cinnamon brown (they flare and have layers on the bottom), my Old Navy blouse, and my Danskos from last year. You are seeing me wear these brown Danskos to school a lot now.

Tuesday at school my department (6 Spanish teachers, 1 Japanese teacher, and 1 French teacher) had a costume. We were supposed to wear all black under, so I went fancy. I wore my Chico’s pleather pants from last year (have them in brown, too), a TJ Maxx sweater with sheer sleeves, and old black booties from Costco.

We were the game “Cards Against Humanity” World Language Student style. So these were things students might say.

When Target had 30% off clothing last week, I ordered a few things to try. I ordered this silk skirt in black. I have a silk skirt in leopard and really like this look. I thought black would work with so many sweaters and tops I have. I have not tried it on yet.

And, a big thank you to Lindsay for posting about these tops. They were down to $8.40 each. You all know that I need more solids in my wardrobe and I have so many vest and third piece items but don’t have many things to wear under them. I ordered this top in black, wine, camel, brown, and this really cool light mauve metallic. I am going to link the mauve metallic here because it is a slightly different material and would even work for a holiday party or New Year’s. You can’t tell from the website that it is metallic or that the material is a bit different. The tops are now back to $12, but still!

Sometimes we can’t wear everything in our closets because we lack some basics we need, you know?
So, what have you been wearing lately?
Amy
You and I are having the same kind of morning…I forgot about a link party I’ve been talking about for two weeks that I’m hosting, and you think it’s Thursday November 2. 🤣 Two peas in a pod! Happy (early) birthday!! I love your outfits this week! That all black is super fancy, and I love that kind of look and often wear it myself. I also love your two wraps! Have a great Wednesday, my friend! It can only go up, right?

No! I know it’s not Thursday! I went to schedule for 4 am and pressed publish instead of schedule!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love your clothing style. The Target long sleeved top is a great find. The Halloween costume was so clever!

Thank you! Thank you! I probably should have gotten multiple of the black because I use that as my base layer a lot. I am very impressed with the quality of these tees and they aren’t a typical cotton knit.

Oops…maybe Happy Birthday TOMORROW?

I feel like I’m living in the future. I read your blog so regularly that I kind of panicked when I saw Fashion Files. I had a brief Oh Shi* its Thursday moment and thinking I missed tomorrow’s appointment. Haha – gave me a good laugh. Like an April Fools Joke but 11/1 instead

I hope you have your fridge now! I admire how patient you’ve been! I barely made it 3 days when our fridge died, and most of our frozen things were put in the freezer at our community’s club house. I’m considering buying Dansko clogs, the Merrin. It has a strap across the back of the heel, which is appealing. Can you tell me if the Dansko you have are true to size? I try not to buy anything online, lol, but especially shoes because my feet are just strange! I love the beige sweater coat! Your trip is getting so close! How exciting!

I do! Yay! That is a good idea – we don’t have that. I could have taken them to a friend, but they were already in bad shape by the time we realized it wasn’t working. I really like those clogs. I feel like you might need to try Danskos on. I think I am a 38 but I had a 39 years ago and I think they were just too big and never fit quite right.

There are medical uniform stores around here that carry Dansko, but not the type I’m looking for. However if I order them from DSW, I can return them to a DSW nearby without paying return shipping and I get refunded on the spot. I think that is what I’ll do!

I recommend ordering two sizes at once to compare!

I love the coatigan! I think it looks nice, but if you don’t feel 100% satisfied with it, I’d try a different brand. I know you mention your Hush Puppies and wear them often, are they really comfortable? I have my eye on a loafer, but I need them to be comfy for teaching all day. I love the scarf poncho, too!

I think it’s going to work out great with sweaters underneath. I need the shoulder and arm room. The HP loafer is sooooo comfortable. You can trust a teacher! I have the cow print. Everytime I wear them I think I should get like a hot pink or another color.

Happy birthday, I think? Shoes are so difficult to buy, aren’t they? I try to only shop online if they have free shipping and returns! I think your department must be a hoot! What awesome costumes…easy yet hilarious!
I think that coatigan is a pretty color, and since you want to wear it as a coat, it’s always good to be a touch big. Love all the looks…the pirate look…gotta love kids, right?
Have an amazing birthday!

Yes! Ha! They really are – I think I have come to the point where I have to go in and try them on, but the selection is not as great as online, so it’s hard!
Thank you!
That’s what I think with the coat. I am keeping the larger and it’s going to be my winter coat until I need more than that.

I love your poncho top: the perfect fall colors! I have had to plan my layers this week: it got really cold and a tank under a plaid shirt was not enough yesterday. I really like that coatigan on you!

Congrats on the fridge and Happy Birthday!
I am 100% in the place of not being able to wear everything because I don’t have all the basics. I finally put away all the shorts and tanks yesterday that I won’t wear til next year because they were taking up drawer space. I love the coatigan. I bought a new pair of high brown boots (from Baretraps) and they were cheap feeling and had no give. They went right back. I had a lot of luck with BOC and Sole Society in years past.
