Happy Wednesday! Who has a Halloween hangover today? Please pray for teachers everywhere as it’s not easy to teach the day after trick or treating – even at the high school level! Ha! And I was informed on Monday that today is “Senior Skip Day”.

I am joining Jennifer for her monthly Currently link up. I always find it hard not to be redundant in these posts, but I will try this time!

Loving

Well, I hope that by this afternoon I will be loving my new refrigerator! And I know you will be ready to stop hearing about it! You know you’re old when you are happy about an appliance, you’re happy when your favorite knife is clean, or you’re happy when your dishwasher is empty – lol!

I am also loving the leaf colors and the fact that I get to live in a place where we have a true fall. It seems like the leaves turn quickly and then don’t stick around for long so I will let myself snap tons of pictures and I will talk about the beauty ad nauseum!

I am also loving my fuzzy socks. I used to be really anti-sock. Like, I avoided socks until I had to wear them, you now? Now, I have a small collection of maybe 6 pairs, and I sleep in them. I keep them on in the morning until I get dressed. I keep them in my nightstand, and I need to add some sort of foot cream to this sock routine.

Buying

I started buying train tickets for our trip. My regular readers know we are going to England and Scotland next month at the tail end of our son’s semester abroad in England – wow, did I just say next month? I still need to book lodging for a few of our nights and finish buying train tickets. I am trying to arrive in our destinations close to check in time to avoid having to pay for luggage storage. Most train stations apparently have a place where you can leave your luggage for a fee (and with a reservation is probably a good idea), but I think that sounds a bit stressful to have to make our way back to the station. Since we are staying in mostly or all Airbnbs, we can’t really drop off luggage early that I know of.

There are so many moving parts, but I have a Google Doc with all my details, and I think it’s kind of fun. Tom wants no part of this leg work and I have always been our trip planner.

Pounds!

Preparing

I could really fill in all the rest of the prompts with trip stuff. I took pictures of clothing items I think I want to take. I am really going to pack lightly (I say this every time!) and we are doing carry on only, so I guess I have no choice. My color scheme is black! I will be auditioning my items by wearing them to school to test for comfort and wearability. Ha!

Pretty sure this is coming because it can work well with black leggings:

Pretty sure the Wit and Wisdom pants are coming. They are so comfortable!

Excited for

I can’t wait to see my Mason! I know it’s still a long way off, but gosh will I be so excited to hug my kid!

He continues to be very communicative, and I really appreciate that!

He texts in Spanish quite a bit, too! His texts really make me laugh many times. Mason has always had a dry sense of humor and a quick wit.

Planning

I am planning out the rest of the semester for school. I keep telling my students it will be winter break before they know it. Kids don’t realize how quickly time passes and maybe it really doesn’t for them. I start every week with a “so, this is the last of our series of 5-day weeks, next week is___, and then we only have one more full week until that awkward 2 day week of Thanksgiving break”. Our school calendar is easily accessible online, but I swear they don’t pay attention. They have told me I’m the only teacher that keeps them up to date on the calendar and what to expect? Our students have 7 periods a day that meet every day of the week. We are not on a block schedule.

At home I am planning for restocking the new fridge and for the things that need to happen for the trip. I am simply adding things to my Kroger app and my Google doc as I think of them.

For my own kids who are college seniors, they are already planning out their final semester of classes. Mason had a Zoom session from England with his advisor.

At school, I am planning but I stop to admire my press ons!

So, that is what I’m up to Currently over here. What are loving, buying, preparing, excited for, or planning?

Amy

  1. At Alec’s school it’s often the other way around; he has teachers ask him why there is a day off or 1/2 day coming up! I do feel like the school year flies by but I don’t remember it feeling that way when I was the one in school doing all the schoolwork– time really seemed to drag then. Yay for the new fridge!! The trip sounds like it is going to be so much fun.

  2. I am excited for your trip! Luggage storage does sound stressful. We arrived early at our hotels and they kept our luggage so I never considered having to store it at the train station.
You are going to be so happy when that fridge arrives! Yes, we are grown ups when these things excite us.
I bet you miss your Mason, your text messages are so sweet and thank goodness for Zoom and Facetime! Can you imagine how hard it would have been to do this when we were kids?

    1. Right? If we were staying in hotels, no big deal, but with AirBNB, I think we need to time it out right for our arrivals. I now have a fridge! Now, who is going to stock it and cook?
I went to Spain for 6 months and didn’t talk to my parents one time!

  3. I love socks! In the winter I can’t sleep if I don’t have my bed socks on. I am so excited about your trip to England and your reunion with Mason. I love that he texts you in Spanish, that’s so cool!

  4. I’m sure you could easily be consumed by trip planning! I always think that kind of thing is fun too. I love your nails! I think black is such a flattering and classic shade to wear on the nails, don’t you? I love mine right now too. Thanks for linking up!

    1. Yes! I need to devote some time this weekend or I’m afraid we won’t get to do all we want to do. I agree on the black. I wanted more like a Lincoln Park but couldn’t find it in the press ons.

  5. Your trip sounds like so much fun!! Looking forward to pictures! I like your idea of a color scheme for travel clothes. Where is your striped black/cream top from? I have been having so much trouble finding a black stripe top!

  6. I am so excited for your trip! It’s getting real, right? When I lived in the UK, my favorite item of clothing was a camisole undershirt. Even with a winter coat, the damp chill over there is no joke. I found that wearing the extra layer made a big difference in staying warm. It will definitely be more challenging to pack in a carry on during the winter, but you can do it! Texting with the college kids is so fun. I’m really thankful that we have this technology. Our family text chat is always a highlight of my day!

  7. I hope you’ve got that new refrigerator up, running and stocked! Oh, and the day after Halloween was a fun one…most of the kids would try to sneak in candy for their midmorning snacks. Many of them would still have traces of the makeup they’d used the night before. But, the village where I taught actually had trick or treating two nights! Yep, you read that right…two nights so two days after!

I am planning to put my Halloween decor away, but the pumpkins will stay out. I actually bought some new pumpkins today from Mackenzie Childs as they clearanced some of them out! I’m smelling the chicken that’s cooking in my crock pot. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, though!

Have a fabulous rest of the week, Amy!

    1. Two of the three? It’s not stocked yet! I like to keep pumpkins up, too. I decorate for Christmas the day before Thanksgiving usually because I’m off and we don’t have Thanksgiving at my house.

  8. I hope your new fridge arrived! It would stress me out to plan the trip…that’s not my skill set, but you are doing amazing. You are right…it will be winter break before we know it.

  9. I’m so excited for your trip! It’s hard to believe that the end of the semester/quarter is just around the corner. I remember what it was like to be without major appliances when we did our kitchen remodel – not fun!

  10. So crazy! Yesterday I read and learnt the expression ad nauseam in a novel (the prequel to Hungergames), I had NEVER heard the expression before and today I read it on your blog! What is the chance for that!? I’m still in chock…
Well, back to reality – yes to fluffy socks! So sweet that you keep them in your bedstand! I only have one pair… with koalas on… need more fluffy socks!
So, the recognition is total today: my favorite knife is washed – ha ha! It’s me! And don’t get me started on an emptied dishwasher.
    Amy – you are my soulmate! ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. It’s a great one, right? It’s from Latin, I think. I am a witch like that!
I just decided to keep them there.
We really are. I wish we could have Facetimed when you were in Florida, but I don’t think it has to be when you are in the US. Do you have What’s app? That is what I am using to communicate with Mason.
