Thank you for your excitement and kind words over my news yesterday!
Today I thought I would share some thoughts on some “wisdom” I’ve been collecting on my phone.
Fun fact – As a child, I collected quotes and proverbs and still have them in a file folder. I was a weird kid. I should dig them up and do a post with them!
I also do sayings and proverbs in Spanish with my students and use that as a jumping off point to talk about life. Kids are not getting enough “life lessons” from trusted older people and mentors in my opinion.
Do you also enjoy saving quotes and proverbs that speak to you?
I really like Gretchen Rubin and if you haven’t done/read The Happiness Project, I highly recommend it. I really think it had an impact on my life.

Giving more to myself over the last few years has really helped me. This is another way of saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. Does that mean more reading time? More time to go take a walk? It means different things to different people.

I love this. I believe I am an Enneagram 2 or “Helper” and I want everyone to be happy. I become deeply invested in finding solutions to make people happier. I also get frustrated when people don’t take my advice.
One example is my friend who works from home. She rolls out of bed at the exact time she has to log on and I have been urging her to get up earlier and start her day in a more gentle way. She is always frazzled and I just know she could be happier! Ha!

I tell my students that I hardly missed a day of high school because I would feel that I missed out (on the social stuff, probably!) and even now it’s really hard to see what everyone else is doing with their time on social media without feeling FOMO. But there is also joy in choosing not to do things. So, JOMO is my new term!

Yes! Love this! I used fall decor I already had and only bought some pumpkins and mums. Also, I am trying to be content with my fall and winter clothing and treat it as “new” since I haven’t worn it for a long time.
I constantly want to declutter. We all just have too much stuff, right?
Do any of these speak to you in this season?
Amy
These are great-thanks for sharing!

You should do a post of all the quotes you collected that would be so fun to read! I like JOMO, I sometimes get FOMO and then try to put myself in some of those situations and I think, yeah, nah, I’m good right where I am!

I should! I wonder if they still speak to me? I am the same – I think of the parking and all the people and I’m like – no – but sometimes I do regret not going.

I totally agree about kids/teenagers not getting sound advice from parents anymore. I taught high school students at church for about seven years, and I’ve thought that ever since then. I don’t think anything has changed today; if anything, it’s gotten even worse as phones/social media have taken over everyone’s lives.
I love these tidbits of encouragement and reflection, but the one about Autumn speaks to me. I am a pretty content person most of the time, but it’s this time of year that my nostalgia comes out as well. Part of my excitement for decorating for fall and Christmas are the things that I’ve had forever! This extends to my wardrobe as well, though I’ll add a piece or two if something screams at me when I’m shopping. Thanks for sharing these today!

Right? They need this so much and as teachers, we have their ears for 50 minutes a day. It def. has.
I love all quotes about contentment because I think not being content robs us of the joy in life. Good point – the decor and clothing feel like old friends and being content with those instead of buying new each year just feels so much more fulfilling!

I have always been a “live by quotes person“. The first one I remember, sharing was, “be the most and enthusiastic person you know”. Last week Shay Shull shared a long quote but I took this piece out of it, “don’t live life passively, live passionately”. I like the idea of living purposefully, so I changed it in my head 😉 Last one: Seek compassion first. Someone recently said that in a podcast and I immediately wrote it down and stuck it on the wall.
You should go back and look through the ones you collected over the years… It’s interesting how we change and/or how we become the people that we inspired ourselves to be 🙂

Wow – love that!
I like that one that Shay did, too.
I need to find my file folder and do that. It would be so interesting. They were much harder to find in the 80s. I probably had specific books of quotes from the library!

You and my mom have something in common. She has collected quotes over the years, and loves to post them all over her house. I will send some photos to you the next time I am out there. 😀 You will get a kick out of it.

That is so cool and I love that she does that! Please do!

This was timely for me with Amazon Prime days this week. I bought a few extra things that weren’t on my list, but I tried to refrain from a cute sweater at a great price because I already have so many sweaters. It is hard to pass up such a “good deal!”

Me too! I have so much in my cart, but didn’t buy a thing. It helps to declutter the closet and see how much we really have. I also like waiting to see if I still want the item.

I don’t collect quotes, but I probably should because it seems like that’s all the longer my attention span is these days. I feel for teachers today because it seems like anything you do or say is scrutinized so carefully by people who really don’t have a clue!
I love the JOMO! I have been doing that a lot lately which probably makes me a really bad fashion blogger. But, I figure my mental health is more important so there’s that!
Have a wonderful rest of the week! If you’ve got time, I invite you to link up at Weekend Traffic Jam each Thursday. If not, no worries!

Ha! It really is! I am so exhausted by it.
I have been JOMOing, too. Mental health is so important, so do what feels right!
Thank you – the light is at the end of the tunnel. I would love to, if Fashion is ok! That is usually my Th. post!
