I’ve been trying to get this post to come together for some time, but I hadn’t worn all of the jeans this season (still haven’t worn one).
These are the current jeans I am working with and only one is new this year – from back in the summer.
My advice is to order a big order in a few different styles and sizes from a store that you also have locally – makes returns so much easier.
There are so many choices – low rise, mid rise, high rise, straight leg, wide leg, etc. You just really have to try them on as much as that pains many of us.
The other point I want to make is that some different color washes do not fit the same. Maybe this is just a fast fashion thing, but my Target Universal Thread that I have in black, dark denim, and light denim all fit differently!
And, one more thing – do not be afraid to cut your own hem. We are lucky that the frayed or undone hem is popular now.
I also like when a retailer has varying lengths for varying heights.
Here is the light Universal Thread that I cut and frayed:

Here is the same pair, but darker that I left alone:

Darker ones on me:

Lighter ones on me:

I found these at Old Navy and was really surprised that I liked them. The length is perfect and they are button fly. These are called the O.G. straight leg:

Here they are on me:

I think they are my weekend jeans?
Here is my only new pair this season so far. These are the Dillard’s Westbound jean:

Here they are on me:

These are Kut from the Kloth from my consignment store last year:

I love the detail on the inside of the leg:

Here they are on me:

And, finally, here are my Nordstrom Wit and Wisdom Itty Bitty Boot Cut jeans with absolution technology:

And, here I am wearing them:

Are you a jeans person?
How many pairs are in your rotation?
Any new styles for this year you are trying?
Favorite jeans retailer?
So much to talk about!
Amy
I think the Target jeans look great on you. I have a narrow waist but have thick thighs and hips. I did as you, ordered oodles of jeans from different retailers. Finally I found American Eagle curvy high rise jeans fit the best on me. They are a skinny fit – I hope they don’t go out of style

Thank you, Jen! I’m so glad you found a good fit. I love American Eagle. I haven’t looked at their jeans in a while, but I used to love a pair I had. Their quality is excellent – love both AE and Aerie!

Hi Amy! This is not jeans related but I wanted to thank you for tuning me into Hush Puppies shoes! You showed your shoes that had a cow print I believe last year. The style was exactly what I had been looking for but I needed a black pair. They are soooo comfortable! I just received my second pair yesterday in taupe. Thanks again!

Oh, wonderful, Nancy! I just tried on my cow print last week and they just feel like butter. I should get them in another color. Cow is kinda hard to know what to wear with, but I love them so much! The flats are not as comfy as the driving moc.

You have so many great pairs! Love the target and old navy. I have so many jeans…but probably wear four the most. I want to keep track of what I actually wear and purge some pairs once we get to spring.

Thank you! I would love a kick flare like the ones you have but I haven’t been able to find the right length for me. I am keeping all my pairs – including skinny – but just have them in another section of my closet. You never know if I will want to tuck them in a boot or something. I think I have the perfect number really. I need the black ones to fit again! I love black jeans!

The Universal Thread jeans are so good on you and you are giving such good advice – different washes may fit differently! I have never tried those bitty boot cut jeans but they have a cult following it seems – they look fabulous on you Amy!

Thank you! I was thrilled to find this style last year and really got my money’s worth. They are a bit more snug this year – ahem. The itty bitty are great, but honestly, I don’t reach for them as much because they require a bit of a heel. The Target have been the most versatile for all heel heights!
Thank you so much!

OMG! I am such a jeans gal! I love them all on you. I can’t find a pair at Target-you are lucky! I have also been searching for a pair of Wit&Wisdom Itty Bitty Boot Cut but can’t find them either in plus size. UGH! I just rely on my old favs-NYDJ or my new favs Universal Standard… have you tried them?
Anyway- you are my absolute favorite blog and I look forward to your posts! Hugs!

I’m not much of a jeans person, if I’m being honest. I still need some that are smaller in size, but I’m dragging my feet, because I hate shopping for them. All these different styles look great on you!

I’m still stuck in skinny jeans… having lost weight, I don’t want jeans that make me look frumpy! I’m skeered of wide leg and straight! 🤦🏼♀️

I love all your jeans outfits! And what a nice jeans collection you have! I have bought wide jeans in light blue, dark blue and grey! But I haven’t started wearing them yet, I’m still in dresses and skirts and will be for as long as possible! I use my skinnies during the weekends since hub prefers them…

I have two jeans. One is from Jjill, almost the same as your westbound, a dark crop jean. The other from Dillards it’s a regular length lighter wash, Democracy is the brand. I love jeans but don’t have much opportunity to wear them here, it’s just too darned warm most of the year.

I used to have a J Jill that I loved and I used to see Democracy at Steinmart that I loved. I don’t think I owned any but wanted to.
Very smart if it doesn’t work for your climate.

I agree that different washes fit differently. I ordered a second pair of some jeans in dark wash and they don’t have much stretch in them. I want to try a pair of Walmart Jeans I saw on Instagram…Time and Tru Mid Rise Straight Jeans.

I love jeans! Umm, it’s basically all I wear! I mostly buy from Old Navy because they fit me the best. Oftentimes I have a big gap at the back of my waist with pants, but not with ON jeans or pants. I have an ecru button fly pair that I love and wear probably 2x/wk. They’re my “dressy” jeans, lol. I have a wide-legged pair from ON that I love! I have a regular dark wash ON pair that I like. My overalls are too tight, as well as about 2 other pairs of jeans: my JCrew pair and my Universal Thread pair. I have to say that I’m not thrilled with the quality of ON jeans. I wash on delicate with Woolite for darks on cold, hang to dry. It’s like ON look good until they don’t. They stretch out and the color gets shiny looking. I can’t complain for the money, and I wear them very often for a year or so, but finding new jeans is stressful!!

Ugh…jeans are almost as difficult for me to buy as a bathing suit. I’m just one of those people who are pear shaped but also apple shaped! And, I have very thick thighs!
You have the perfect legs for jeans! I think all of these jeans look really good on you!

I like the pair with the detail! I have the Wit and Wisdom jeans and they are my favorite. I rotate between those and pairs I have bought at WalMart :).

They are so soft and comfortable, but the waist folds over just a bit. I also need to wear them with a bit of a heel. I need to try a Walmart pair!
