Did you have a summer list of fun goals? I did here and I did pretty well with them! You can read my report card, too, if you wish!

I think it’s fun to make a list for each season and there really is no better time than fall to do this, right? If you live in a place where summer is really hot, you are like a Gilmore Girl waiting in anticipation. Why is it almost always fall in Stars Hollow?

My kids say food is not seasonal, but many of us wait for that first cool day to make our first batch of chili. Tom requires macaroni noodles in his and you must have Fritos, am I right?

So, here are the things I want to do in the second half of August and into September and October…

Support my friends who have kids leaving for college – So many are sending either their first or their youngest child

Provide a fun week for our German guests and enjoy it myself, along with them they will be here in about a week and a half

Celebrate my kids’ 21st birthdays!

Walk to breakfast with Tom

Continue to use the boat as much as we can until we have to winterize it (usually end of October)

Go to Chatauqua by boat – arts festival in my hometown

Go to Oktoberfests – a couple of different ones are held around town

Use my Solo Stove when I can

Continue to read on the patio – go away mosquitoes!

Work on a nice fall capsule-ish wardrobe

Continue to declutter different spaces of the house

Start cooking fall foods – soups and chili!

Get out fall decor around September 1 – it will probably be a week later due to the German visit

Get out the fall candles

Buy my fave Mrs. Meyer’s Acorn Spice cleaner and handsoap

Walk – take advantage of the best time of the year to go on walks!

I am sure there are many more things I didn’t think of, but this gives me a good start to be intentional with my time.

What about you? What’s on your list?

Amy

  1. I’m still hoping for a few more weeks of summer here so I haven’t given a whole lot of thought to my fall list but I will for sure be adding in lots of hiking!

  2. It’s so hot here, I can’t think about fall activities yet, but no matter the temps, my pumpkins will be out and it will be in the low 70’s in our home beginning on September 1! And yes, I am like Lorelai Gilmore anxiously awaiting fall and wish I lived in a place with more autumnal temperatures! I love your list, though. I may be going on three trips this fall, but nothing is set in stone yet. One is for anniversary, one is to see a friend who moved to Nashville back in May, and another one may involve sisters. I know you’ll love having your family members there with you from Germany! Will you take off a day from work? I hope you’re able to do that. I love this time of year, and the promise of the months ending in b-e-r is the only thing about August that I love!

  3. YES Fritos are a must with chili. Fritos, green onions, cheese, and sour cream, actually.

I live for Fall. I hate the heat of summer. I’m living for the day that it’s cool enough to walk on my 1pm lunch break. And after work.

I want that Acorn Spice Mrs Meyers.

    Also on my Fall list:

    I want pumpkin spice lattes.

I want those pumpkin bars that have chocolate chips on them and sometimes have cream cheese frosting but I want someone to give me some because I don’t enjoy baking. Ha ha. I wonder if that one cashier is still at Vons…she gave me some once when she made her annual batch.

  4. Hello! I have never had Fritos with chili! Nor, macaroni noodles. I’m sure both are good! Our must-have with chili is definitely cornbread. We crumble it on the bottom and put the chili on top, then the fixings on top of that. Yum! My dad will only eat his chili with rice. Love how everyone has their preferences, haha.
    Excited for fall!!
    Have a great day!

  5. Fall!? Nonono! But I can take about late-summer-things if you want to. 😀 In Swedish “latesummer” is a word, but I don’t think there’s a word for it in English?
Oh, food is definitely seasonal, tell your boys that they are wrong! In summer we barbecue and just eat steak with a mixed salad – that would never happen during winter!
My fall will be different: oldest daughter’s boyfriend has bought his own apartment, I guess she will sleep there a lot and youngest daughter is going away to military service – so I will need your empty nest ideas badly!

  6. I almost always decorate for fall on September 1st or thereabouts. This year, I’m going to wait because there’s too much time between then and Christmas which would be the next big change in decorating! Would you believe we eat chili all year long? My husband really likes it so I’ll fix it because it’s an easy dinner!

I need to explore (the first step, right) the idea of making seasonal or monthly goals.
