My sister had on a cute top and I complimented it, to which she replied “Shein”. Of course, I have heard of the brand and I have seen their ads. My sister told me to look to the “Curvy” part of their website and order up at least one size.

The prices are scary cheap. I read about the company after the order came and honestly, I probably won’t order anything else because of what I read. But, it got me to thinking – how different is this from other fast fashion I have purchased in the past? Does the fact that I have so much stuff in my closet from consignment help to offset some of the downsides of purchasing fast fashion?

Here is what I picked:

The three shirts are polyester and honestly feel not too different from the blouses that are $60 and up in my local boutiques. I have not worn anything out yet just because it just came and I really haven’t gotten dressed much. The fabric feels lightweight and cool to the touch but it also feels kind of flimsy. I steamed everything because it arrived very wrinkly.

I have worn the ones on the left 3 times already!

Have you ever shopped Shein? The order took a little over a week to arrive. It was slightly quicker than my sister said it would be.

I want to buy less and more quality stuff and this definitely does not fit with that goal, but now I have it and I hope that I wear it and then pass it along to consignment when I finish with it.

  1. I have ordered from them in the past and while I liked most of what I got I wasn’t loving it and have not ordered from them again. I don’t think I will either.

  4. I love what you picked out from Shein! I have ordered from there, and like your sister, mine took a couple of weeks (maybe even 3) to arrive. I was pleased with what I ordered, and had heard the same thing about sizing up, but I sized up too much and the dresses were way too big. I could have returned them, but then I waited too long, and it was literally money I just threw away. That’s on me, though, not them. I may order from there again, but then again…maybe I won’t. I need to try things on first, most of the time, so ordering dresses online isn’t something I normally would normally do. (Said the girl who ordered a dress from Amazon on Saturday and is anxiously awaiting for its arrival on Wednesday.) I’m rolling my eyes at my own self.

    But, I really like what all you picked, particularly that red geometrical looking blouse. I think you’ll enjoy those at work when you go back!

    1. I really did get lucky with the sizing. Everything fit me. I went up by one to two sizes and it helped that Molly told me what size she orders and my chest is bigger than hers. I may wear one of them today to run errands because you truly don’t know until you wear it for the day. Don’t these look like boutique blouses?

  5. I have ordered from SHEIN for about two years and while there’s been ups and downs, I’m happy to say that I’ve been mostly pleased with my purchases. As a matter of fact, a lot of the things that I get complimented on are from SHEIN instead of the high-quality stores that I shop at. Now of course this doesn’t mean if I have an important event SHEIN is my first go to but when it comes to vacation outfit, accessories and swimwear, Im headed to SHEIN lol. I love the earrings you purchased.

  6. Hi! I wanted to let you know we just got back from our trip to Louisville and had a great time. We spent two nights in St. Louis and then drove on to your city. We stayed in a great hotel near the airport right by an amusement/water park although we didn’t go to that. We went to the Slugger museum, took the tour bus around the city. The next day we toured Churchill Downs and rode the evening Belle boat cruise. Friday we drove down to Mammoth Caves and then explored some great small towns on the way back. We also went to the NULU neighborhood and ate at the Emme Squared pizza you suggested and shopped. My husband loved the botany plant shop and was excited to buy a plant and bring it home and to talk to the very knowledgeable woman working there. What a great city you have and thanks for all your ideas. I have to go back to teaching in two weeks so it was a great way to end my summer!

  7. No Shein for me, I have ordered in the past but it just doesn’t work for me any more. I do know lots of people who have good luck with it so like everything else, it’s a choice. The term fast fashion has such a negative connotation. I think it’s fast fashion if you only wear it once or twice and then it gets thrown out or falls apart. But what if you buy something from Shein and wear it for years? Or from Forever 21 and wear it for years? To me that’s not fast fashion. At the end of the day you do you and buy what you love and what loves you back!
    These are all pretty prints – I really like the first floral print!

    1. Yeah, don’t do it. You make some good points. Like, some of my Target things I have had for years! I will remember your words. I am trying to be more like you and pick more quality items, though.

  9. I like what you picked! I haven’t ordered from them and don’t know much about it. I’m sure everything we order from Amazon is “fast fashion,” which is kind of depressing. I’m trying to cut back on purchases since I really don’t even where everything I have now. But it’s always tempting to get a few new things for each season. 🙂

    1. Thank you, but I think they will be a donate or giveaway. The fabric is weird. I wore one yesterday to test run.
      I am doing better this summer than ever before but I still slip up or get these crazy ideas of things I “need”.

  10. I bought a sweater dress there in 2019 after a blogger I trusted talked about how “cozy” it was. Well. It was $13 and it was scratchy and felt plastic-y. Also smelled like plastic. I ended up giving it away after one wear. There was nothing cozy about it.

    1. Nope! Can’t do that either! Well, after wearing one of the tops yesterday – the fabric is just weird and off. I felt sweatier than I should have. You’d think I would learn.

    1. I don’t think I can recommend it. I wore one top yesterday and the fabric is just weird and off – you know? I really try to stay content with consignment shopping because I feel good about it. But, I have not shopped as much this summer as I did in the past and I am proud of that!

  12. I really love the earrings and the headband! I did a collar with them AGES ago and I honestly can’t remember what I got or if it is still in my closet (is that bad?). But, my teen daughter did order some swimsuits from them and the sizes were off and they were too big. 😦
