Ugly snow

Mission to enjoy January… In the past, January has been a month to just “get through”. The only light was the hope of a snow day. I am already enjoying the post-Christmas slow down and low-level goals of January so maybe that is changing.

Hygge up my house – add a new cozy blanket, pillows, small soft lamps

Find a January vibes candle

Decorate for Valentine’s Day – oops – did it!

Plan a Valentine’s meal to make at home – no way, no how I am going out on a Saturday Valentine’s Day!

Spend out and buy a lamp/candle warmer

Try to continue to choose reading over scrolling

Think about all the good things about winter – no leaf blowers/lawnmowers, can leave groceries and Chapstick in car because they won’t get too hot

Declutter – maybe make a list of all the areas and check them off

Drink more tea

Continue with my social media limit – seriously I am not missing out on seeing that my classmate from 9th grade is selling some tires.

Get outside everyday – there is no bad weather – only bad clothing. Tom bought me a D-Robe for Christmas, and it is life-changing.

D-Robe model

Find some new healthy but delicious recipes – Stop complicating dinner

Less food waste – shop more frequently for better/easier planning. Buy real food – not processed food stuffs. Have an “ingredients house” (which I pretty much already do)
Eat out less/cook at home more/less take-out

Rotate through all my winter clothing and whatever I don’t want to wear/doesn’t fit me or my style gets donated so someone can use it now

Buy fewer things but higher quality things. I really don’t need winter clothes at all and would like to wait until spring. I want to wear crew neck sweaters with a white tee or button up underneath. I also want to wear my long sleeve tees with my vests. Done. I have plenty.

Work on sleep and skin care

Go to library cooking classes – the German chef is the January featured chef so that is exciting. She is the one who wrote the cookbook we bought and led the class we took. These are free which is a nice bonus. A nearby branch of the library is doing 3 cooking classes a month with a different local chef each month.

Low spend January – less online and more in person might help with impulse control

Plan a game night with friends (NOT mah jong)

Plan a trip or trips

Go to coffee shop once a week to read, enjoy, and get out in the winter

Go to a movie by myself

Go to a nice lunch by myself

Last reminder:

Tomorrow is the big day – Currently link up – the categories are:

loving, resolving, planning, eating/drinking, and watching/reading. If you also do Joyce’s Hodgepodge like me, feel free to do them in the same post! I will open the link up at 4:00 EST and keep it open for a week.

What goals do you have?

Amy

  1. These are great goals for winter! I have been doing so bad at layering up and getting outside this winter. I don’t know it if actually is colder this year than normal or if I’m just extra wimpy or what.

  2. That first picture is cracking me up!! Do you like winter, Amy? I can´t tell, lol! Seriously, those are good goals and I am SO IMPRESSED (I needed to all cap that!) that you have decorated for Valentine´s Day. Love those little touches. I know you will crush your goals :). Keep us posted… Have a great Tuesday!

  3. I love your goals! These are all easily attainable. I love the idea of you doing things by yourself and hosting a night at your house for friends and games. Have you ever played Taboo? We played that on NYE and I laughed my head off. I need to do a post like this soon. I also love your choice to read over scrolling and to limit your social media time. I think if I did that, reading wouldn’t be such an issue for me. I don’t scroll too much on socials until bedtime; that’s when I watch TikTok videos. I need to try to read in bed again! I’m still not giving up. Happy Tuesday, friend!

    1. Thank you! I think and hope so! I love Taboo! That’s a great game. I think I need a talking game. The thing that helped me read more was my book light. I read after dinner in the same room with Tom while he watches a show I don’t like. lol.

  5. This is a great list! I actually like January….April/May are the months I just “get through”…never been a fan!

I don’t have notifications for social media so I have to open up the app to check/do anything and then I get sucked in. That’s my specific issue.

I love being able to leave things in the car!

My mom taught Wells how to play mah jong on her phone. I looked up the rules to the physical game once and then I blacked out a little bit…so it goes with me and board games. I can’t do it.

    1. Thank you! I never have liked it. I love April and May because of spring and all the festivities around here.
I need to reduce my notifications, too.
      Me too!
Mah jong’s rules are like people on drugs came up with them. So crazy! There’s a funny IG video about them.

  6. Hi Amy!
Good list! I don’t know why but I have the January blues for sure! I don’t I’ve ever had them like this. I over decorated my house for Valentines hoping that would help. And it really didn’t! I like you don’t need one single piece of clothing until spring. I guess I just don’t heave anything to do? I wish I had girlfriends like you do. That would help a lot.
    Have a great one!

    1. I’m sorry – I usually do. Maybe the decor will eventually help. The sun came out for us yesterday and that helped, too. Have you ever gotten a spray tan? That helps me! Lol.
I really don’t have many that are available to hang out with. I am considering taking a class or something.

  7. You have some fantastic plans. I am with on trying to enjoy January, so far so good! I didn’t realise Valentine’s Day was on a Saturday. I think we will be staying home too.

  8. Great goals list! My husband and I always opt to stay in on Valentine’s Day. I didn’t even realize it was a Saturday this year- bet it will be crazy! Excited for tomorrow’s link up!

  9. January calls for low-level goals. Let’s keep it simple and attainable…ha ha! I went to a watercolor class at the library today and was proud of myself for trying something new. That’s amazing that your branch is having cooking classes. We still have leaf blowers and mowing here in the winter, so I will think of you when I hear them. 😉

  10. The cooking classes sound so fun! You have lots of great goals. I always think January and June are good declutter months. I guess I did a lot of that in December but I always feel good after I get that done. Movie/lunch alone – I think I could do that haha
I’ve gone to the movies by myself, but it’s been years.

  11. I love to hygge up my house. I have gobs of afghans I’ve made over the years as well as various throws and pillows. My best friend and I made our own candles this weekend, but I haven’t burned it yet. It’s got Key lime, gardenia, and coffee in it. Sounds weird, but smells amazing! You’ve got a long list, but I’m betting you complete it! I, however, haven’t even done an update on the last trimester of last year!

  12. A lot of these resonate with me! After a month with a lot of spending (between Christmas and some short trips as a family, I feel the need to put on the breaks). One of my goals is to not spend much on groceries for the rest of the month and make more whole foods. We shall see how that works!
